      I still love my original X100, but without the Pro Neg film sims I’ve never found color settings that I’m happy with for SOOC JPEGs. So, my favourite older Fujifilm cameras are: X-E1, X-Pro1 and X100S.
      I also own: X100V, X-Pro3 and a pair of X-T4’s. I like having that range of bodies with the same sensor and *almost* the same set of film sims, etc. I’m not interested in moving up to the latest sensor as I don’t need the extra resolution, there are things about the X-T5 that make me prefer the X-T4, and there’s no X-Pro (yet) in that class.
      I’ve long wished that Fujifilm had made an X100 with the X-Trans I sensor, but otherwise I’m quite happy with the two classes of X-Series models I’ve mentioned here.

      Kept the X-E1 & X-T1 for travel, light carry, & situations where I want inexpensive kit with me. I think I would sell them both if I came across a X-E2 in good condition. I sold the X-T2, X-T4, and sadly, the X-H1 (my favourite Fuji). They were all great cameras but I have since moved on to full frame and medium format.

    I still use Fuji x-Pro 1 + 18-55mm and Fuji X-T1+55-200mm , but I upgraded my Nikon equipment from D300 to D700, D800E and D850 after it broke down. Saving for a MF digital camera with a Zoom lens for woodland use. I upgraded some Zeiss lenses to 45 Mpix standard and bougth Nikon Zoom lenses as 24-70mmF2.8, 70-200mmF2.8 and a 200-500mmF5.6.

    Still using my X-E1 regularly. Started with 27mm f2.8 pancake lens which made it perfect for EDC. But couple years ago picked up the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 which gave me much more flexibility and that has been my only lens on it since. There's something timeless about the images from the X-Trans I sensor. Natural light portraits, in particular, have a magical aura to them missing from newer digital cameras.

    I have used XPro1, X-T1, X-E2s, X-E3, X-T10, X-T20, X-H1, X100, X100T and XF10. I have only kept the X-T1, XT10 and XF10. There is something special about that XTrans II sensor that the more modern ones do not match up to. I keep the XF10 as it's so small and genuinely pocketable. Mind you it's not just Fujifilm cameras that seem to produce nicer images with the older sensor. As a long time Pentax user, the 16MP sensor in their K5 and K30/50 cameras also produce that certain magic. I suspect the same is true of the Nikon D7000 too.
    The later Fujifilm X-T* models are technically superior on paper, but to achieve that superiority they had to sacrifice aspects of the X-T1. X-T2,3,4 and 5 are all bigger. They all have more complex and opaque menus. At least the X-T20 and 30 kept the size and form factor of the X-T10. For me, each successive generation of the X-T* and X-T** cameras have become less desirable. The X-T1 with a battery grip is nigh on perfect for me ergonomically with a wide range of lenses, as is the X-T10 when matched with a TTartisans 25 or 27mm, or an adapted Zuiko 38mm f2.8 half frame lens. Thankfully neither the X-T1 or 10 has suffered the same outrageous price inflation of the X-E and X100 series (though my XF10 has!).

    I started with FUJIFILM with the X-T5, then acquired an X-T2 as a second body and sometime later got an X100S for "dirt cheap" (about $600 USD off the current inflated prices).
    I love to pair TTArtisan lenses with my X-T2 for vintage vibes, then I pair more "pro" lenses with my X-T5 for more professional-looking results. Finally the X100S is for just going out, point and shoot.
    Sadly the current used prices are insane, but older models like the X-T2 can easily be consider for professional work even in this current year 2025 (as long as you're ready to deal with those dreaded false positives... yeah they have been with us since then!).

    One thing of the many things I loved about my X-T1 was that it looked so much like the Contax RTS film slr. Lovely design. So clean and Germanic compared to the melted look of Canon or even the Bertone styled Nikon I gave up.

    I bought a used X-T2 2 years ago. I love that camera. I recently bought an X-T1, and I’m still trying it it out. My observation was I can see Fujifilm had made a nice camera with the X-T1, but with the X-T2, Fujifilm took a serious step for that line of cameras.

    My first Fuji was an x100s, but still shooting on Canon for commercial work. Had a job photographing a cabinet meeting in the Australian, Victorian House of Parliament. Did the grip and grin shots, the groups on the stairs and then a couple of candids as the meeting began. I was advised by the minders that I would only have a couple of minutes as the real business was being conducted before being ushered out of the meeting room. Got some shots with the Canon gear then quietly kicked the gear bag under a table and switched to the little Fuji and spent the next hour getting some great coverage of the meeting unnoticed. It helped that I was in a black business suit - bit of advice - always wear camouflage. Business and politics, suit, most other cases Hi Vis and a flashy light on the top of the car, nobody questions why you are were you are. The Fuji pics were a huge hit and over the next couple of years I transitioned to Fuji and retired the Canon gear. Have an XE1, Xt10 and shoot commercially on an XT2, XT3 and XE3, no complaints on the image quality. Still carry the X100s everyday.

    The X-T1 was my learning camera. It is so beat up now that I'm afraid I would break it forever. Given how rare the parts were becoming, I decided to get an X-T3 so my X-T1 can be 'safe'. Fantastic to have you back Chris. You once recommended on a video settings for an X-T1 that were, a B/W simulation coupled with an ISO of 4000 ( yes 4K not 400 ). It was a Saturday morning and I was sat on the sofa with my 2 youngest playing on the carpet at my feet. I immediately set my X-T1 up, called my youngest and took a snap of him. When I reviewed the pic I was blown away, it looked amazing.
    I had to post this story here to pass your advice on regarding the first gen XT sensor 👏👏👏
    I have an X-Pro1 too, another great sensor.

    I bought the X T1 for a rural project set on Vancouver Island, BC. I bought it when the X T4 was out. Latter I purchased the X100F. Both cameras/lenses are delightful. In fact I just posted a photo I love to my local group Facebook page. I wanted to add in the camera and lens but I couldn't remember which camera I used. Both have wonderful rich contrasty images, the miracle of the new JPEG world with film sims. I also own two Canon cameras. I just bought the 7D mk 2 for it's crop factor (1.6) to add length to my Sigma 150 - 600 Sport lens. And the 7D mk 2 is an action camera paradise, but I also have the 5D mk 4 which I use in landscapes and coastal forests. The one frustration I have with the 7D mk 2 is the irritation of not having a touch screen or dials on the top as my other cameras have. And it doesn't have wireless transfer of images which I like with my Fuji cameras, even the antique X T1.

    I have an X-T1, an X-T20 and a Nikon Z7 II. I use first and foremost my X-T20 because it's so small and light, then the X-T1, The Z7 is a bit too heavy and cumbersome to my liking. There's something with the results from those Fujifilm cameras that make my heart tick.

    Ah nostalgia, it’s not what it used to be! I’m also a regular user of mine married up with a 35mm lens. I have two xt2s also. I bought my xt1 new at 5he end of its production run in 2014 and it was the catalyst to me changing from full frame (heavy) Nikon cameras. It is so reminiscent of my first slr, a Yashica Fxd quartz. Everything about it is intuitive and it produces great results.
    My brother in law recently asked me, “what are you still using that?”
    “Er, because I like it and it’s brilliant!”
    As my daughter would say, “ovs,”

    Hello Chris... I shoot with an X-T3 that I bought barely used in January 2021. It's been a blast and can produce some really great images. I only have three XF lenses; the OG 56 f1.2, 90mm f2 and the 18-55 which came with the camera. I also have several vintage lenses that I love adapting to the X-T3. All-in-all, I found after much research and shopping that the X-T3 was a great performer for the money. Fun video, have a great week!

    Currently Fuji-less. Had x4 X-Pro1s, X-T1 and an X-H1… phenomenal cameras and sensors. Of all the bodies, I preferred the XP bodies. The view finder in the XT body was fantastic. The XH was an incredible all workhorse… an XT3 in a different body but cheaper. As much as I love Fuji, they pack a lot of bloatware into the bodies that I don’t need. As good as the recipes are, I never used them.
    I’m currently on a bit of gear reshuffle, and I’m now saving up to replace my Leica M9, and the workhorse camera will be Nikon DF eventually… replacing the Nikon D700 and D750. I keep a Canon 5D because they’re so ridiculously cheap and offer amazing image quality.
    Why ditch Fuji? I just want and only want a stills only camera system with optical viewfinders. No video, no ibis, no recipes… just a camera. I wish Fuji had the balls to bring out a stills only camera system to compete against Leica or even the Nikon DF. But that’s just me.
    Shoot what makes you happy.

      Have you actually held a Df in your hands? I had one for a while. I found it to be a truly awful ergonomic experience and the leatherette has a tendency to bunch up and peel. That aside it does have lovely IQ and matches old MF Nikkor lenses very well. I recommend you try before you buy. I would stick to your D700 and D750 or even upgrade to a D780 for similar money to the Df.

    • @derrenleepoole
      @derrenleepoole 12 днів тому +1

      @@richardhale9664 thanks Richard. For me, like any tool, there's pros and cons... so you learn to live with them. The draw for the DF for me is the backwards compatibility of non-ai or pre-ai lenses and the lack of video. Sadly, unless you know someone who owns a specific camera model, chances of trying one are limited to none. So it's a risk, but it's a risk taken with that understanding in mind. As much as I love the Fuji X cameras, I've really come to love the optical viewfinder experience more, and the backwards compatibility of using my old vintage lenses at their intended focal length is a big plus.

    x-t10 is my all-time favorite camera. Grab it in 2020 used for 100eur. The only issue is the slow AF in low light, but the IQ is FANTASTIC. I use all fuji cameras, but x-t10 is ❤.

  • @albertsmith9315
    @albertsmith9315 13 днів тому +1

    For me, I find that using an older camera (X-T2, X-Pro2 vintage) is more productive because they have already entered a status of a true tool. When I buy a new camera, I baby it, coddle it, worry about it. The older models are dinged, marked up and cosmetically flawed from use, so I just use them without fear.
    I stopped buying cameras after getting two X-T3 bodies, but still use the X-Trans II and III bodies without any feeling that I'm compromising.

    Bought first Fuji camera 16 months ago, the XS-10. Then I started working backwards, firstly the XH-1 then the XT-1 (both because of the dials) then recently the XE-3 (an impulse buy). Love them all. They each have good points and not so good but although I guess the XS-10 is used the most they each get used regularly and as I often carry two, sometimes 3 cameras to avoid having to change lenses, do not regret buying any of them and certainly no requirement to buy the latest and greatest. Slight aside, went to a local camera club meeting tonight and one attendee brought in their new Canon full frame and attached lens. It was like picking up a brick compared to any X series camera. So used to the above Fuji cameras weight wise, just wouldn't want such a heavy camera to lug around.

    There is a guy I know who has a Nikon for when people demand digital for professional work. Otherwise he uses a battered old Leica II and either Ilford B&W or (rarely) whatever Fujichrome he can find at the cheapest price. He develops and prints himself. He has an old Minolta scanner with various adapters so it will connect to a modern computer. But that rarely results in a digital file being printed... Mostly this for his website.
    People may think it weird. But I just believe in using what works for you and makes you happy as you enjoy the process. You don't have to let trends or fashions govern your life. You don't need people saying you are an idiot and why don't you use the latest from brand 'x'. Happiness while you get the job done, and the feeling of satisfaction - these are irreplaceably by any brand or age of gadget. So I absolutely understand where you are coming from here.

    X-T1 is a no brainer. I would still shoot it if it didn't die on my last year :/. The Xtrans in xt1 (xe2/x70) has the best colors. It's bit dated but when it comes to photography it has everything one can every need. The 16Mpix files are breeze to edit... I eventually bought X-T5 and I like the added bells and whistles (like changing focus spot position based on orientation, automatic focus zoom with manual lenses with contacts like voigtlander), overall sturdiness (the flappy door on xt1 was were not good), the battery life (I was lugging so many batteries with me for xt1) but man, the xt1 was hitting the spot. The colors are so crisp.

    Hallo Chris, this is the first time for me to write here. I live in Germany .....already a little bit older. 😊 The x10 was my first Fuji x. I was able to trade it in mint condition from an older lady in 2014 for a Canon Powershot sx240. She found operating the x10 too complicated. That was the beginning of my passion for Fuji x cameras. Shortly afterwards I was able to purchase an x-m1 cheaply, and then, when changing models, a brand new X-Pro1 for 400 euros. This was followed by two more models, an x-20 for 50 euros and an x-e2 with the 18-55 kit lens for 380 euros. I enjoy using all cameras, the x10 and the X-Pro1 still look like new. I like to use 6 Fuji lenses and a number of old manual glasses. I fixed the 27 mm Fujinon, first series, on the X-m1, a very small and usable combo. The 35 mm 1,4 doesn't leave the pro 1 in general. The x-e2 uses the 18-55 mm, sometimes the ttartisan 27 mm AF. I will never sell the x-e 2 and the Pro. I just love them, the x10 has a perfect working macro mode. It's a very nice little camera wich I still love to use. The only problem in future can be, that Fuji doesn't repair these older cameras anymore. Oh, I forgot my x100t that I bought three years ago in very used condition but full functional with 22.000 clicks for 100 Euro. All the best to you, keep on going this way

    I love the X-T1 & the X-E2. But - for me there is no nostalgic feel to the photos here. Rather, it's the fact that the photos come out of the camera very clearly, because the pixel pitch is still reasonably correct and the color management was still right back then. What's more, the camera was still doing exactly what it was there for: taking photos. This and the fact that it was so well made is what makes it so beautiful. Today's 40MP sensors from Fuji do not achieve this clarity.

    You are 100% about the older images. I have been using the little X10 since 2013 (CMOS EXR sensor) and got an XT30ii 5 days ago. And it’s crazy insane the difference. Yes the XT30ii is wildly impressive and intelligent. But I don’t feel the same when I look at the images compared to my X10. Yes the newer camera is more sharp, more everything but they look to perfect if that makes sense? Hopefully I’ll get used to the XT30ii and find some settings that can get that similar look of the X10, or perhaps something closer that I’ll cherish.

    I love my Fujifilm X-T1, but I’m having an issue where the LCD screen freezes and fades when flipped out, likely due to a ribbon cable issue. Sadly, Fujifilm told me they no longer have spare parts and refused to provide a repair diagram. It feels unfair to be forced to give up such a great camera that otherwise works perfectly. Any tips or advice?

    The XT1 is a proper camera in my opinion. The XT1 and X100T are my all time favourites. FUJIFILM did what Nikon should have done going mirrorless. Nikon was late to the party and should have created a mirrorless Nikon FE2. Finally they did, but I wont be switching. The XT1 is special and I wont ever sell it.

    Good video. Only been with Fujifilm for a year, OMD M43 for 6 months before that and phone camera before that, oh then film in the 80's. I've flipped through a few Fuji's over. the last year but the X-M1 has stayed on the desk and is still the main one I pickup with the TTArtisan 27mm. I just got a Fujifilm X30 and there is a slim chance it could replace the X-M1 purely because of the EVF and 24-112mm manual fixed zoom lens.

    Good video, valid points. Your choice of using Fuji gear you do makes sense. For me, I enjoy landscape photography and some woodland.. I never felt any need to upgrade from older Nikon DSLRs and some are crop sensors. It's about the user experience, the journey, not the destination. I want a classic experience.. big DSLR, Tripod, contemplative, not some mirrorless wonder with an ai chip and ibis that gives me 10 stops handheld in pitch black... blah blah, I don't respect that, it's a crutch and a cheat.

    So what I extracted as your biggest reason for still using that camera: You are so used to the camera that you can operate it blindly and you deem its image quality good enough for you. Valid reasons, I'd say.
    Your question for the viewer's experiences with Fujifilm cameras? My history with those is non-existent and will be non-existent. Had a bad customer experience with that company at a very young age and since then I never bought anything from them. It's something personal I guess.

    • @richardhale9664
      @richardhale9664 12 днів тому +2

      It depends on what you mean by low light performance. The XF 27mm is only a stop slower than either the 18mm f2 or the X100F's 23mm f2, which really is not a big deal with ISO performance being so good on either camera. What is more important in low light is the ability to focus quickly and accurately. Neither your options nor your current set up are ideal, though they are not awful. I would try the XF 35mm or 23mm f2 on your X-E2. In my experience the AF with both these lenses on even an old body like my X-T1 is a step up from the 27mm and the 23mm of the X100F. The XF 18mm f2 is renowned for relatively slow af like the 27mm

    I don't really agree. You can still get great results out of an XT5 or even a GFX camera just because you're using an older camera doesn't mean that you're going to necessarily get a different look. It comes down to the use of light editing and your style while I appreciate the nostalgia of using an older camera to save money and it's a great idea I don't think we have to use an older camera. That's a bit of a slap in the face for people like myself. He worked really hard to purchase a new camera I'm a little bit sick of the Internet saying we shouldn't buy gear and that we should go on holidays and trips. Well guess what? I actually don't enjoy trips much to be really honest and it's one of those things that everyone assumes that photographers love to travel. I don't getting stuck in airports getting sick eating foreign food spending a whole bucket load of money for about two weeks isn't my idea of relaxation.

    Two X-T1's and a used X-T2, got the latter because the AF on the ones is just awful- surprise, hardly better on the two! And from what I read, it still continues to confound even now... Originally got the X-T1 for the 14mm, a 21mm equivalent that is just a phenomenal lens! I wish they would update the 18mm which is center sharp only. Yes, I know the 1.4 is an optical marvel- but too BIG, too Pricey! I love the size, ergonomics and image quality, but the lack of satisfactory AF (and I'm talking missing focus in single point, direct sunlight) is frustrating- why I also have a GR and a used Q.

    I'm currently looking to buy a Fujifilm camera but can't make up my mind which to buy. I'm leaning towards the XT1 as it's more affordable, especially as I would need to buy a lens on top, of which so haven't s clue which to buy. I'm currently using a Canon 77D with the 18 to 55mm kit lens.

    • @richardhale9664
      @richardhale9664 12 днів тому

      If you are happy with the Canon 18-55mm you would be happy with Fuji's 18-55 too. Though personally I would go for the 18-135mm plus a fast 35mm for low light and portability. There are a number now available. I would also add a battery grip for the X-T1. They are cheap, double the battery life and offer enhanced ergonomics without greatly making the camera much bigger or heavier.
