  • Is taking a chance on a “cheap” sword a risky bet? I can be…if your recommendation is coming from the wrong guy.
    Today I review a sword in the $200 price range: The Windlass Shrewsbury Sword from Museum Replicas. I’ll give you my honest, unfiltered opinion, and whether or not this sword makes the cut.

    The production was in a hurry to return Chris Evans’ First Avenger costume to him, so I lucked out on that one. (There was no way it was going to fit anyway.) I hope that part wasn’t too distracting. One of the reasons that I went with an intro dressed as Cap is that I plan to move towards fantasy/pop culture subjects in the future. You have been warned.

    This is a much better sword review than some of your earlier ones mate. You did a good job actually analysing the important specifics of what a potential buyer would be interested in. Good job

    I believe the Deltin Brothers of Italy made the blades for Museum Replicas in the 1990's.

    Love the intro! Nice to see you have fun with it, so many reviewers are too self-serious and DRY. I always check you videos and learn something new for the collection I hope to have one day!

    I purchased an OAKESHOTT TYPE XVIII SWORD from Museum Replicas made by Windlass in 2012, not really all that cheap at $375. Aside from waiting over a month for delivery, the cross-guard/quillion was deeply scratched in one small location and that guard was also off centered where the handle met the blade. I would have sent it back, but it had already been long time coming and the Faire season was fast approaching. And it did come with a really nice scabbard so ... yeah.

    I'm relieved. I purchased this in the early 1990's. My second sword purchase. I made my own scabbard. I was too cheap to buy one. I would buy one now with a scabbard. I have the Guinigate sword on back order. Any revives on this? It was offered in the early 1900's also. I had to replace the leather wrap grip on my Shrewsbury sword a year later and it turned out better than the original and seamless.

      I’m surprised to hear that the Shrewsbury was something you could buy in the early 90’s! Back then, my swords were plastic toys and wooden ones that I had made. I’ve haven’t handled or reviewed the Guinegate, but it looks nice!

    Like everything, you get what you pay for. Ive been less than satisfied with most of the windlass products I've come into contact with.

      Yes, very true. This was my first Windlass, so my experience is definitely limited.

    • @erichusayn
      @erichusayn 3 роки тому +1

      @@ShagadelicBY sloppy fit and finish, lack of distil taper. The lack of taper leads to poor balance. Plus most dont come sharp, so you gotta pay extra for a (usually not so good) sharpening from the retailer, then spend time putting an edge on yourself. I've heard that windlass swords are good quality (on their price range) from other yt swordgeeks.
    That girthy tree on your lawn is worthy to be in a medieval setting, or a story by itself.
    As for the shword.... Sigh.. I still think it is an awkward weapon. 😞😶
