2XL You hit the jackpot with that machine! My dad dug his basement with a No. 6 Traxcavator in 1969. That’s on a D6 chassis. I spent many hours myself running a 951 Traxcavator. Those two lever controls may not seem to make sense at first, but they really work good when you get used to them. Congrats on that purchase!
Mick, Your channel is going to explode in time! Its a great mix of humor and technical aspects. I like the bigger picture view of your projects rather than including minutes and minutes of watching every bolt be removed. Keep ‘er up man! Btw, im prolly a large/xl in a carhart shirt. Just sayin’.
Good friend of mine has one of these exact loaders, that clutch oil needs changed immediately, the oil is what makes the clutch work and water will destroy it soon. the tracks are over tightened too. you want about 5/8 inch sag from the rear sprocket to the idler roller. something very important on the cooling system, is these are a fully sealed system and a good thermostat is CRITICAL to the cooling system because not only does it regulate the temp, it also forces the water to the proper path through the block and head! check it asap, the machine will over heat no matter what if its missing or not cycling properly. the hoses must be that heavy duty fiber hose like is on the top, DO NOT put plain old automotive radiator hose. I made some hoses from exhaust pipe and them heavy duty fiber hose for couplings and it works great. them old pumps dont like todays low sulfur fuel, it helps to use an additive to add extra lubrication to the injector pump.
Just prescribed to your site, as a millwright,a mechanic and a small engine repair person I did a lot of restoration and repair for over 50 years. One of my favourite elixirs to deal with rusted tranny’s etc. was a mixture of used ATF and diesel, one can fill an engine crankcase enough to cover the crank and rod bearings let it sit for about 1 week then drain it. It would loosen any rust and sledge from the bottom of the pan and flush the crap out.👍🇨🇦
Love the channel, especially the dog! Like the Interstitial clips, Atom bomb explosions, and sound effects! Fun stuff, makes your channel stand out from the others. Love to see a young person with my interests in old equipment take a huge risk and WIN BIG! Nowhere else can you make 800% ROI, plus have a LOT of fun like this! If I were only young again... (I'm 67, XL) Keep up the FUN! Than't why 13K + subs and GROWING!
I had a 955H, you have to pull the lever and press the pedal on the same side. Pulling the lever disengages the drive to that side, pushing the pedal tightens the brake band. If you try to steer with the brakes alone, you will wear them out quickly. Some machines had levers, some have pedals, but some of these old Cats have both. If they have both, you usually must use both to steer. My 955H was 24 volts. Good luck, work smart, find a manual.
I’m glad I subscribed to your channel! You’re pretty mellow, fun and the wife is a joy to watch working with you., keep up the great work on this channel.
Stumbled across your channel, I'm more into classic car "will it run" stuff. But I found it interesting and your pretty down to earth and entertaining so you are definitely in my watch list going forward.
I’d say you hit a home run with this purchase. The price was right, it’s surprisingly complete, shows signs of being well maintained, the engine was not seized, and it started right up on the crude oil in the tank. Additionally, it lifts, lowers, moves front and back, and steers left and right (with effort). Everything should improve with use and break-in. You’ll spend money on a full service package and one hose after another but ultimate value should exceed cash-in by a fair margin (in my non-professional opinion). Keep us posted. I wish you luck with this one. 🥸👍👀👋 🔨 🔧 😁❗️
Looks like a 1955 or early 56 with the Cat D311 engine Will need to get glow plugs working or either when cold. once running and warm no longer needed until it cools off again. It's a pre cup engine. "Off Road equip." is a good parts supplier. TGP
Dude, you stole that for 2k. With some new filters and fluids it’s usable which is something you can’t normally find at that price. Definitely would upgrade those battery cables and avoid a meltdown. Would also drain any remaining fuel and clean the tank before running it too much. Even on newer stuff it’s not easy getting to injectors without a near total disassembly. You do this so we don’t have to even though we wish we did. Shirts and hoodies look cool. XL. Really dig your video style. The pop in snippets are a great way to break things up.
Yup, im gonna say it again. Your Channel is gonna blow up, and its gonna blow up soon! I have been following u since 2,5k subs i think and i really enjoy your videos! A good combo of mechanical experience, Learning to all the people watching your videos, and last but not least the fun! Its not hard to see that you are enjoying working on old machines and other equipment and its really nice to see. This may be my first comment on all of your videos i have watched, but its for sure not the last. Anyway, i really really enjoy your videos and keep up the way YOU want ur videos to be, everything here on this channel is top notch. Well to the shirt, im thinking i would fit in a M or a L in a carhartt shirt:)
I look forward to your videos every week. I love the mix of content and humor and your light hearted attitude towards life Doesn't your wife like being in your videos anymore?
Mick all the old dozens and traxcavators I drove you pulled the steering clutch lever first then pressed the brake to turn not the other way round. I think you have done really well with your purchase good luck and I love your blogs. By the way I'm 74 and I spent many years on Cat 955 and 977 traxcavators and loved it.
Another really cool old machine! My first track loader that I operated was a 973, it could move the house. I can’t decide if I like following this or the IH dozer better, and your videos are hilarious, my wife doesn’t care about this stuff but she likes laughing at your content, keep up the good work!
Another good video, Im a old retired equipment operator so I really enjoy it when you are taring into earth movers. One more thing, like I said before, be careful working alone. It looks like things are going pretty good for you guys. Dont mess it up by getting hurt Mick. THANKS for some interesting videos.👍
Great loader. I have 941 fun to work on. Just having an issue trying to find a replacement motor. Definitely would replace those fuel filters. Change all your oils. Enjoy your channel. Keep it up.
i gotta tell ya. When you come in close to the camera with that weedy stache...i get a little creeped out. However...it's not so bad that i'd switch channels. Carry on mister!!
Great video! I found you today and subscribed within the first 2 minutes! I LOVE old equipment! I bought a 1976 Bantam Kohring C366 excavator, for $2500. 70,000 lb machine. With very little work, couple hoses, about 50 gallons of hydraulic fluid and some cylinder seals, it’s was up and working on my property. Can’t kill the old detroits! Keeping an eye out for a nice little dresser dozer.
I enjoy watching your videos. You have a good attitude no matter what you run into. It's encouraging and refreshing. I wear a medium in the event that this comment happens to be one of the winners. Keep doing what you do brother.
Love the channel, Mick. Great stuff between the humor and your musical taste, etc... I'm on the hunt for a small old dozer in Northern NH/VT. Are you planning on developing some merch?, as I'm happy to support guys like you. On the meantime, size XL. Best wishes for your continued success.
Hi i think older than 60 near then was powershift. It had pony removed and aftermarket starter put on.helical teeth on drive.middle to late 50s. U can get starter parts 4 them. Most people wouldnt know how 2 source them
Machinery does need a lot of work, but if serviced regularly and given attention to detail, it will last forever. The most important thing with this gear is complete protection from the elements.
Nock, Congrats on finally getting the old Girl/ 50's Cat Traxcavator running and driving.. The Yellow Beast lives.. some tlc and rad bolt she will be able to work hard on ur Ranch..
First, size Large for your contest 😁next I must say that I love your videos and you do a great job editing and the inserts. I have a bunch of old junk too and your videos keep me motivated!! Keep em coming!
Great content as always! You’re doing exactly what I like to do but I find it soooo time consuming to film and edit and get the videos posted! Keep up the great job! You’re on my list of regular watches along with Andrew, DC, AntsPants and all the other greats! Shirt size large! Thanks
Are you planning on doing a service video on it and replacing the radiator. Would love to see something like that. Enjoy watching your stuff. 2XL if I’m picked
Your channel is awesome. Just love watching you work on so many different projects and equipment. Thank you for keeping me entertained. Also I am a size L shirt.
Happy for you brother that ol' I'm retired after running newer Stuff and when I'd go back to ol' stuff i could start to run it hot but congratulations i need to do something like this myself
Talk to Diesel Creek, Matt, he knows a lot! And C&C Equipment, Clint is an awesome mechanic on diesel’s! Take care my friend! See you in the next one!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙋🏼✌🏻✌🏻💯💯💯
Hi there from Quebec/Canada🇨🇦. I apreciate your style and the way you animate your vidéos. On my point of view, you are a great complement to Diesel Creek and Scrapy Industries. My t-shirt will be a Large!!😉
You keep doing this to yourself because you like and respect the "old stuff". You probably believe that leaving it to "ROT" in some field or falling down barn when it could be working for a living is not a wise choice (I'm trying to be polite and accurate at the same time here). Please keep going and posting! It's 2:14 AM and I have headphones on so as not to wake the Dragon Lady (my wife)!
Well, I’m a big un….I’m a 2XL. Can I get that in form fitting Spandex to show off my physique 😂😂😂. I look forward to your videos each week. For the base content and most importantly the witty banter and edits so keep up the good work.
That old equipment back in the day will never die. Love the old stuff!!!
Heavy duty ! Now lots of plastic

Yep I said the same thing iv been here since the second video. It’ll happen eventually.
Give it a few more months of videos like these, I haven’t seen anymore else has the funny memes besides zip ties bies plies lol.
There can be to much of a good thing.......cut back on the on the comedy
You are absolutely correct, the old 50s stuff is always a pleasant surprise to work with. It never dies.
TIP...for an emergency whittle a popular plug and hammer it in the hole in the radiator... it'll work until ya get the proper one ...
Crow’s foot wrench…fits on the end of a ratchet extension.
Just a couple of angle irons cut to fit the lift cylinders work great to hold bucket up. That’s how we worked on our old 955h👍
