@@ML-sj3gi no, I heard multiple UA-camrs mention him being part of some/this drama. Now I have better context and understand a lot more having heard from him. I think DN made salient points about Doug and others have elaborated. A little more humility and change could go a long way. I think Doug is a little caught up in his own UA-cam success. It’s a bit heavy with the tabloid news at times, which obviously worked. And I like that Matt ask him directly if that meant he’d change going forward. But I’m glad to see Doug’s opened up space for those who he’s misrepresented or maligned for clicks. Hopefully a lot of people learn from this, particularly Doug. With power comes responsibility. As a big fan and a big supporter, I would say three things.
    1. If there is one criticism, it’s that you tend to kick people once they’re down, or find it hard to let things go. With stuff like Alex Torreli, Charlie Carel, you can take them down and have a go at them, but then give them some space. Calling people out is one thing, but if you keep hitting them over and over again it becomes cruel.
    2. People forget that the Poker industry is / was very corrupt. You used to have a lot of poker influencers taking money from poker sites even though the deals on offer was bad, and they were being very dishonest with their fans. We needed people like yourself to pop the bubble of the Poker Elite.
    3. Thirdly despite the drama, your best videos are by far the ‘Polker Hands’. I know you hate making them, but they are the best out there! The most inciteful and logical analysis on poker hands out there.
Finally, I think with people like Berkey and Torelli you think they offer terrible products, but then you look for other ways to destroy them. You don’t need to go after Torelli for the chip hiding, or Berkey for pontificating, but you can still take down their products with a bit more of a gentle hand and some humour but without stomping them too much!

I think that while I appreciate your opinion, as someone that has watched nearly every video for 5+ years to say he continues to kick people while they're down is a bit disingenuous with the exception being Carell. Torelli has a large platform and can respond and has done so. Same with Berkey. And, if we are being honest, out of hundreds of videos Doug might have a handful targeting their actions or how terrible their products are, but here's the thing - it's an opinion. He's allowed to make those comments. Just as they also are allowed to respond or call out Doug, which they both have done. Could Doug possibly do a better job? Sure, we all can strive to be better. And I think in his effort to be better he opened up his platform to his 4+ hour conversation where he heard and took criticism and apologized when he admitted going too far.

If Berkey for instance thinks Dougs content with him is part of the same problem he's delusional.
Doug was 100% right to walk back the Charlie thing - it is bad its this late
Then JNandez situation is clearly very bitter and complicated, both a personal and business dispute that got out of hand

This is bang on. This is where this forum just missed the mark. It created a space where everything got lumped together and the nuances were lost.
Berks completely lost the plot at one point. Despite making some legitimate points that I agreed with a lot of what he said was totally unhinged.
I also think it’s really inappropriate how Phil involved himself in all of this with his own hit piece. He may not think it’s relevant that he owns a competing training site but it obviously is. The whole “trust me bro” defense was ludicrous, he’s very clearly in his own bubble and making it seem like his opinion is objective truth. Didn’t expect to come away from this losing so much respect for Phil.

Doug’s loyalties are to himself, his audience, and the game of poker. They expose themselves when they tell Doug “he isn’t part of the inner circle”. They know Doug has the biggest platform in poker and is the one who isn’t afraid to call others out and shine a negative light on them. It’s like they’re all preemptively trying to turn the poker world against him knowing that if/when THEY fuck up- Doug will be the one with the balls and the platform to put them under a microscope. This Phil guy is a fucking lying snake. He 100% is motivated by trying to do Doug damage. Hi Doug - long time fan here. Your free videos helped me dramatically improve my game and have kept me informed about stuff going on in the poker world for years. You have provided a TON of valuable, positive content for FREE to thousands and thousands of people. You've also "called out" many instances of unethical behavior, which in many cases needed to be done. So I don't think that should get lost in all this. Your body of work is top notch.
That said, it's pretty clear you've gotten a little too wrapped up in the personal dramas and, at times, taken things too far with various feuds and debates. I'd recommend posting an article or doing a recorded video where you address the ones you agree deserve an apology in your own words. I know you've said you're sorry at various times in conversations, but perhaps a more direct (and concise) piece would be more helpful.
You can be well liked/respected/embraced among most high stakes poker players OR you can be a commentator on the community and mix it up with controversial subjects and take the bold stances that are going to lead to higher views. I'm not sure it's possible to do both, unfortunately.
I think the question is: What do you want your role to be? Are you primarily a poker journalist/reporter (I don't think so)? An analyst? A commentator? Maybe there is a successful figure in the sports entertainment world (ESPN, FoxSports, etc) that you could use as a model for how to walk that line between objective analysis and commentary. Of course, the ones who are brutally honest about what they think tend to make enemies.
You have a unique mix of elite poker skills with communications skills and a sense of humor. You also seem like a genuinely good guy who cares a lot about the game and the people involved in high stakes/professional poker. I'm a big fan and look forward to seeing how your channel evolves. Cheers.

Overall, I thought Doug came off the best. I didn’t find Jaffe to be sincere. He was unable to acknowledge objective counterpoints to his issues. I didn’t find Berkey to be sincere. It was a lot of “meta” complaints and by refusing to discuss individual instances he was able to continually move the goal post without having to think. I didn’t find Galfond to be sincere, which surprised me. His piece was clearly a targeted hit piece that was filled with hyperbole, both in blanket statements and in comparisons to murder and genocide. And he was unwilling to back off his “I’m the good honest guy” stance. I did find DNegs and Chewy to be sincere. I didn’t agree with them on everything, but they did come off as sincere. I think Doug has been over the line on a few character bashes. And he acknowledged and apologized. The rest of the criticism was just an insincere piling on. I would suggest to Doug not to lean too much into the “bullied as a child” mea culpa. Sure it may be something to bring up once. But notice how you got support when you expressed vulnerability/weakness. Don’t buy into that. Weakness is NOT a virtue, despite how it makes others feel better and less threatened.
Finally, I’d like to talk about the advice to consider the balance between “good” and “popular” work. I think that is something to consider strongly. No doubt that you’ve gotten big and “powerful” via giving the people what they want. But who’s REALLY holding the power in the dynamic? Is it you? Or is it the whims of the public? I would consider this in light of the tragic could-have-been-hero of The Fountainhead, Gail Wynand, who made the same mistake in the content he put out in his newspaper company.
Doug… take to heart the legit criticism of unjust personal attacks. Fuck the rest and continue crushing. You got this!

Maybe the biggest takeaway is when you produce a video bashing someone (although very funny) you will get the internet trolls who will flock to the person you roasted and just verbally abuse them. You’re not responsible for their actions. But you have the power to stir up the pot. Most of us don’t go barking at Torelli for hiding some chips, but there are a number who do.
Now you’re getting some taste of what some of those guys felt after you did a “hit piece” on them.
In all honesty, because you covered Berky a lot in the past, I’ve become a fan of his, where I initially disliked him. So he should be thanking you for all the traffic he got. You helped bring him up, and it actually helps someone’s brand when you’re able to take heat, and stand up for yourself. It’s like all Berky has to do during your bashing videos is make a reply video on his channel, run a 2 week promo, get people in the door for free to check out his material. If the material is valuable, the product will stand on its own. You’re actually damaging your business if Berky applies the right counter attack 😂. You’re giving him all this free traffic Lol

I’m at 3:33 and I have to say , this is fucking uncomfortable. But I am grateful that men are actually talking through disagreements. Being passionate, emotional, coming back to reason and logic, but then recognizing neither of those things are what builds community. You’re recognizing our shared interests, our humanity and love for a common game that we’re less interested in if we don’t feel SOME kind of respect for the other humans we’re playing against. Be that poker or business. And I struggle to say that knowing many of you involved have so much more money/power than the majority of us watching/listening to this. This is real and authentic and way more important than so much of the obvious posturing. Thank you all for the bravery or “fuck it, why not-ness” brought here. ❤

    My only criticisms:
    - Putting "POKER FRAUD" on a video title that is about Berkey does paint him in a bad picture to the general public, even if you didn't go after his specific accomplishments or if the video is fully satire
    - It seems to me that you only apologized to Charlie after hearing he had something terrible happen to him, and not because you actually understood the arguments he was making, and is also against pdf ilia
The rest is fine IMO. Your type of humor needs to exist, people need to learn how to take jokes and heat, or else the poker environment becomes a pool full of softies who fake play nice to each other and are secretly fuming with hatred. Might as well be a Solve For Why podcast.

Exactly most of the people attacking Doug are simply taking advantage of todays standard of victimhood to, ironically enough, attack doug(whether deserved or undeserved). They all stand to gain if Doug is “cancelled” from the poker community. So it’s just become like any other mob rule mentality, where a bunch of people who were fairly and just mildly attacked, jump out of the shadows to latch on to the attack apparatus. Doug absolutely deserves some criticism. We ALL do! But seeing some of the people join in on this dog pile on Doug is laughable.

@@bwalsh1105 Pretty much. I think some criticisms are valid like in charlie and berkey's case, which Doug did jump on the "meme first, clarify later or never" horse. But really more than anything it tells me that being a public person requires a very strong mental, and is by far not for everyone. Especially if you're going to publish controversial opinions (which, funnily enough, this specific one - empathy for pedophiles - I agree with). Charlie would've gotten backlash for this anyway, Doug or not, because people are idiots.

I think of it in this sense, time is invaluable and anyone who doesn’t waste mine is, at least, respectable.

Props to everyone who took part , it was mature and most importantly ballsy .
This way of dealing with beefs is the way to go rather than slighting someone then ignoring them next time which is immature tbh.
I didn’t know about some of the videos and posts which Doug had done in the past which are quite clearly bullying and hearing the testimony from some of the victims involved don’t paint Doug in a good light tbh ….. but !!!! It took HUGE balls to host this twitter space and hear all this shit about yourself and still be able to remain mainly relaxed and listen to the testimonies with an empathetic ear. I note Doug reflected on some of his poor decisions and admitted he could’ve done things for the wrong reasons and stated HIS reasoning which was refreshing .
I listened to the whole 5 hours and it was a difficult but entertaining programme, but my thinking at the end was that a fresh wind had blown through a smoky, hazy ,poker room and hopefully this will be a fresh restart for everyone in the community now that all the dirty washing has been aired . I hope so as I love Dougs content .

Poker players accusing other poker players of taking advantage of people to make money.... may be peak irony.
    Or lack of awareness.
    Take your pick.
Its literally the day job of a poker player to manipulate another person's personality to elicit cash out of them. Which is fine. Its what you signed up for.
Its every poker player's belief that they are better at manipulating people. That's why you sat down at the table.
To complain about someone else calling you out on your personality feels disingenuous. Part of why I've loved Doug's channel is because he's completely up front about what his day job is.
And he has fun doing it.

Wow. Doug, I have always felt you're a relatable guy who if I met on the street would be fun to be around. I didn't realize part of that is because we share a history of being bullied as kids. As an adult I've realized that I have a hair trigger whenever I sense bullying and that at times my senses aren't always 100% accurate. Like you if I say something and someone has an issue with it, I'll always address them. I think what some may not appreciate about you is that, right or wrong, if someone has an issue with you, you will always seek to address it with them directly. Most people don't do that and I think that's very commendable. I'm going to continue to support your content not because you're 100% right all of the time and don't make your own mistakes. I'm going to continue to support your content because you're funny, you have good takes, and you can admit to being human. We need more, not less of that. I would just say, your experience being bullied can color how you see certain situations and just be careful for yourself around that. Thanks for always keeping it real!

I've never once seen Doug as a bully. Even regarding the times he has "gone after people", every single instance was in response to a charged personal-attack or outright insult (towards Doug). A personal-attack in response to what was in essence a thought out criticism (by Doug). Aka, journalism. *The Charlie incident may be the only exception to this rule.* But even then, all Doug said in response to Charlies tweet was *"what" (verbatim)* and Charlie went straight into a slew of insults. Does that make Dougs counter-insults right? *No.* But the point still stands.
The issue I have with people coming to these "bully" conclusions is they are by-and-large lumping journalism and the controversy which comes out of it into the category of "bullying". Which is just ridiculous.
First of all, no shit criticizing someone or something is going to cause controversy and beef between the person/organization has been criticized, and the commentator who broke the story and opinion. That is how Journalism works.... Further more, when a subject of a story takes your criticism and turns it into charged personal-attacks/insults, of course those insults are going to be reciprocated tit-for-tat.
One can't expect to insult someone with personal-attacks and/or character-assassinations (in this case against Doug) and not expect that person to just sit there. That isn't how life works.

1:39:29 I will say this is a problem with social media as a whole. What drives clicks is content that appeals to emotion. Specifically, people like to click on videos and articles that anger and outrage them and social media algos take advantage of this and keep feeding this to the users. So if you are going based just off "what the people want" then youll be making more drama content that will further divide the poker community 😅
