I was homeschooled growing up and I always wondered how different it would be if I actually attended school. I am sure some high school are better then others, but in my experience, homeschooling was a bad choice for me. None of my parents had a college degree and both of them come from dysfunctional family. My mom refused to put me in school because of religious reasons, but I feel that keeping me shielded was a double edge sword. I was always behind in school. I remember being embarrassed because my friends who were younger than me were passing me by. At 14 I could not read or write. Finally my parents enrolled me in a church school in Kansas. I later found out that this was just another homeschool group. They move from my home state of North Carolina for this purpose. This school wasn’t the best. It closed because one of the students committed a crime. By this time I just decided to get a GED and be done with it. I got it before I turn 18. Because I couldn’t write, getting my GED was difficult. Only subject I did well in was Math. Currently I am attending a community college and majoring in mathematics. So far, I managed to do really well and in algebra 1&2, college algebra, Trigonometry, and Calculus 1. I’m enjoying calculus 2 as well. I just wish I could have a normal school experience growing up.
wow, you have been through it! i don't know many people who have been homeschooled, so thank you for sharing your story. i am glad you are taking charge of your education & continuing to learn moving forward. you got this! wishing you the best of luck. please let me know if there is anything else you want to know about college! 💙
I am so sorry you had such a bad experience with homeschooling. I am homeschooled and for me it’s the best option but I know not all students and not all families are made for homeschooling. I’m glad you are doing well now and I hope you have learned to love reading and writing despite your slow start on the subjects! Even if you haven’t though math will get you quite far so stick with it!
