The All New Longines HydroConquest GMT Is SO CLOSE To Being Perfect: An Owner’s One Week Review

- I love GMT watches whether they are flyer GMTs or caller GMTs. I've owned a bunch of them including the Rolex Explorer II, Tudor Black Bay Pro, Seiko SSK GMT and MM200 GMT, and more from Grand Seiko, Zodiac, and Traska. So it's no surprise that the Longines Spirit Zulu Time piqued my interest at 42mm and then even more so at 39mm. As much as I loved my 39mm Spirit Zulu Time, I am a dive watch guy at heart and I was hoping for a dive style gmt watch with the quality that Longines offers.
Then just a short while later, Longines released the HydroConquest GMT with a much needed upgrade to the dial and bracelet, now featuring a quick adjust clasp, something not present on the Spirit Zulu Time. Additionally they made this watch a dive GMT meaning that the watch is a dive watch with a standard (more practical) elapsed time dive bezel, but with the addition of a GMT function. Since I love dive watches and GMTs so much, did Longines make my perfect watch?
In this video I'm going to get into all the details of my new Longines HydroConquest GMT including the dimensions, how it wears on the wrist, the controversial dial, case, and the awesome bracelet. Overall this is an absolutely fantastic watch that blew away my expectations that takes the fight right up to Tudor. But It’s not without its faults

Legit Diver + true GMT + quality movement. The blue with both rubber and steel strap are on my list.
to be honest, this is the first longines that i really like.
They did a good job with this one for sure! I'm excited to see where the hydroconquest line goes from here
So glad you decided to be honest with us this time and decided not to lie. what about the other times though? 🤪
Dear internet stranger, how would we know if you weren't being honest?
Zulutime is good roo
Longines are producing some brilliant new watches. If you compare them to Tudor, what has Tudor produced that isn't a "Black Bay" ...or a close relative of the BB ?.
They are becoming a one trick pony.
I have recently bought 2 Longines watches. The 40mm Spirit and the Titanium 'Big Eye'. These watches could not be more less alike and are excellent, great value watches.
I think Longines suffers from watch snobbery. If you stuck IWC on them, you'd be charged an extra $5000, and this bump would make them superior watches for some.
Having owned two previous Hydroconquest…both were great watches, I can’t wait to see these in the stores, so I can get the look and feel in person. Definitely checks off a lot of boxes for me.
I love it, like if a Sub and a Planet Ocean had a baby (who took a bracelet from Uncle Sinn). Honestly didn't even notice the circle indices until you pointed them out either. Looking forward to the comparison with the Zulu!
I’ve owned a Hydroconquest for 6 years and this model is a great improvement. The crown guards and bracelet are much improved. I recently upgraded to an Omega Planet Ocean and thought I would keep the Hydroconquest as a back up. Maybe I’ll sell it and try one of Longines new gmt’s as my back up watch. For the money it’s hard to go wrong and the movements they use perform very well. Love it
Can not unsee the circle markers!!!
Spot on about the round indexes.
Good job. Greets from Warsaw.
Been on the fence for a while but I think this settles it for me. Great video thank you!
Very cool watch! For me the Zulu in gold/green is still my #1, but this is another great release from Longines
Gorgeous!!! Looking forward to owning one soon!!!
Looks great. If they had put the date at 6 the symmetry would be better with the two circles at 3 and 9
The new HydroConquest is the do-it-all watch. Best bang for the buck today.
Agreed! its pretty incredible to see what longines managed to put in here for under 3k and for so much less than their competitors. Lets see where this line goes from here!
Hand a hands on with this and it will be my next watch. It's stunning.
This is a great looking Rolex.
great production quality of your video
I like that it's a diver with GMT function, not a GMT with a lot of water resistance. I think that while a GMT bezel is good, a diving bezel is more realistic. Quite easily a great do-it-all for those that like larger watches.
Great video! Been wondering if you would jump all over this Hydroconquest GMT! Congrats on the pick-up!
That is a great looking watch and makes me think of an Omega Planet Ocean and Submariner having a baby, LOL! The case is quite Rolex-y for sure but the bezel and dial give me Planet Ocean vibes for some reason.
I own a hydroconquest and love it. That Zulu time tho is beautiful.
The Spirit Zulu Time wins in this comparison in my opinion, however it is great to see another traveler GMT option in the Longines catalog.
That is a really nice watch TWI, the combination of a timing bezel and a GMT works very well and it certainly looks very smart. The bracelet is very good from what you showed us, the on the fly micro adjust is a definite plus as is the taper. The multitude of shapes for the dial markers oddness could have been avoided if the date was at 6 and placed the circle at 3. It's OK though. I do like that splash of orange on the dial for the night time GMT hour along with the outline of the GMT hand. The Spirit will carry a cost premium as it's COSC certified so that might explain some of the extra cash. As usual, a cracking review and thanks for sharing.
Thanks Anthony! Yeah dive gmts are awesome combo since i rarely if ever need to track a third time zone so iitts the best of both worlds! And yeah they did a good job on the bracelet I'm glad that they decided to go for the heavier 5mm taper down to 16mm instead of only 18mm. This would have felt a bit to big otherwise, for me at least. Ah yes i forgot that the Spirit Zulu Time is cosc certified but even with this one not being cosc certified its staying true to the accuracy range in multiple positions so its like i got the chronometer rating for free lol!
@@thewatchidiot I have a few classic Longines that I purchased over the years, a Sector Dial, Tuxedo and stainless steel BigEye among a few others and they all run within COSC. The finish is way above what you'd expect at the price from my experience.
Absolut coole Uhr !!! Ich liebe die blaue und die braune !!! Werde mir in Kürze beiden anschauen ! Für mich ebenfalls die erste Longines die mir wirklich richtig gut gefällt
very similar look and feel with the Omega Planet Ocean GMT black dial orange GMT hand. although of course the price difference does show in terms of the movement + extra details like the arabic indices for the PO. If I were on a budget, this Longines will make a good alternative
Now that you’ve had time to spend with both the Hydro GMT and MM200 GMT, which do you think will stay longer in your collection? Caller vs Flyer GMT aside, just wondering which of the two you tend to be more impressed with when you look at it on your wrist? Also curious about the comfort comparison if you could please. Glad to have stumbled upon your channel recently. You make great content. Thoughtful and thorough. You should have more followers!
Yes do a comparison Longines Spirit Zulu Time GMT vs Longines Hydroconquest GMT.
It looks good. I'd go a smaller version if they do that like the Zulu time.
Pelegos 39 GMT would be just about compulsory buy depending on thickness. Interesting San Martin has one already with NH34 movement and it looks great, only it's in stainless steel.
Love it. I really wish they made a titanium and/or Pepsi version of this.
That tudor at 5.38 is beautiful
Got to touch and feel the green hydro gmt with bracelet. In the longines case it stuck out like a shining star. Quality is on another level, quite a beauty
Theyve done a really good job with this one I've been wearing it more over the past few days for my upcoming long term review and ive been loving it more and more. the refinement is just next level
Great review. Please do the comparison between this one and the Zulu time. I’m about to by the second 😅
Funny, one of my first thoughts was a rounded date window. Either way, it should have been lumed as well. Definite interest in this watch - nice review.
I love this watch! Need to see Sunray brown in the flesh before I hand over my money though! If it’s as beautiful as the green then it’s a no brainer for me! Great review!
This is a great release from Longines. I get the quibble with the circle markers. It would be a bit more symmetrical if it had a 6 o'clock date, but I have seen those exact markers on a vintage Longines diver. I can't recall where I saw it right now. They didn't just make it up for this release. The quick adjust should be the standard for any diver costing 4 figures, or at least $2K and up. All in all, Longines has really been stepping up their game on their latest releases. I think they've been more inclusive of enthusiasts, while not getting rid of casual entry luxury watch buyers.
Would love a comparison video between this and the seiko 5 gmt . Obviously different price points but would love to see how they compare anyways
Definitely not forgetting Tudor
Looked at this at the AD last weekend. Looks cheap and shiny in comparison to the BB GMT, which I own. Not even close.
I was thinking of a hypodconqusit but it was light and felt cheap.
This looks a huge improvement
I like it…thanks for sharing!
Now if Longines would come out with a 39mm hydroconquest gmt ,i would be all over that immediately
loving the look of this watch my only problem for me is the pinned bracelet, I hate that for this price range of watch but that's just me.
This is a great looking watch.
You said it right. „Close to be perfect“. I do not like the second hand. But the Perfect thing: your Video and all the informations.
I'd definitely would get one I got the regular hydro already..
Way too Rolex submariner homagey for me. They literally ripped off the lugs, oyster case, and crowns straight from the submariner. I mean just look at the lugs and the side slab of the case 😂. They even went as far as taking the maxi dial of the submariner and simply inverting the indices on the dial LOL. All they did is inverted the batons found on the 6 and 9 of the sub maxi dial to circles on the longines and then inverted the circles on the submariner dial to batons on the longines 😂😂😂😂. But one thing positive to see is that it looks like manufacturers are finally starting to put decent clasps with quick adjust on the fly. It's great to see this on a sub $2700 watch. It's a good looking watch, it just does so at the expense of borrowing most of it's DNA from the submariner. Yet another homage to the sub. They should have at least kept the sharp crown guards. And they should have used the zulu time case. Now that would have made it original and classic longines and would have looked beautiful.
Nice review👍
Is the clasp compatible with the Zulu 39?
Can you do a comparison video between the Seiko SPB 383, Tudor Pelagos Black Dial, and this Longines Watch? Great content!
Finally someone who agrees with me that the Wimbledon dial is disgusting! Always hear people talk about Oh it's so collectible it's the best one to buy It's beautiful I love the Wimbledon dial
I feel like this next to the Monta Skyquest ($2500 ish) is a good comparison. As both have the micro adjustment strap etc.
Wonder if they had made the date a circle, or added a circular magnifier (gasp), if it would have made it look more symmetrical. Nice that they added the female end links on this one. Wish they would have done it with the zulu time. Ah well, nice looking, but sticking with my AR on this one.
That's a great piece at any price
Longines have used this dial on the Longines Admiral diver.
Looks a lot like my 20 yo 16710; very tempting but can not unsee the round hour markers….
Curious if this bracelet would fit the original hydroconquest? I have the gray ceramic hydroconquest but would love this bracelet on it!
Perfect! Now @ #Longines: GIVE US a 39mm Hydroconquest with improved bracelet ❤ or at least a 39mm Conquest 🎉
A truly great watch. Way better value than the BB Pro..and thinner. The only thing I would have changed is the bracelet pins, I'd love screws. But that is not a deal breaker imo.
Have you had one on your wrist?
@@alfieakaronaldog yes I have tried them. Why?
@@tiagodvt I just was not as impressed when I briefly tried one on
Tried one on today, lovely watch but can't hold a candle to the BB Pro.
@carlvoxvires the BB Pro's thickness and disgusting hand finishing (look at that black "paint" on the center pinion, jesus) kills it for me. I find this one much more interesting.
Amazing watch
The DJ Winbeldon dial is such an eyesore for me 😵
To this day I don't understand how someone at Rolex saw that 9 o'clock marker and thought "yes this is good to go"
@@thewatchidiotmust have been a 5pm Friday submission LOL
@Hi_Scoops and they happened to submit one of the unfinished drafts 😄
Is it possible to throw this bracelet on a Spirit gmt? Or maybe to switch the clasp?
I like you have the Tudor Pelagos LHD I sold my bb58 to purchase a Longines ti spirt have since bought serveral Longines great watches
Nice we're very much alike! Yeah Longines is doing great things with the spirit and conquest / hydroconquest lines hopefully the do more with titanium tho, this hydroconquest GMT in titanium would be spectacular!
This one or the new Zulu Time GMT 39mm??!
Zulu
This
love Longines and what they are doing - just that i am one of the few that cant get over the round indices at 6 and 9 - would much prefer them to match the others albeit slightly larger...
But it’s ok on a Rolex? They do the same thing just opposite
the new Blue hydro on the bracelet is nice , the black one looks pretty meh its better on the rubber .
I own this and its great , very comfortable. Mine does have a slight rattle from the movement rota, im guessing this is normal ? ?. Mines running at plus 2 seconds a day which is impressive .
Does yours have a quite stiff crown? Mine seems kind of hard to turn. No other watch I have seems that difficult.
They should have made the date window circular and made the 6 and 9 indices the same size as it (a little larger).
I want to know if this bracelet will fit the old HC
Is this bracelet compatible with the 39 mm spirit zulu time?
If you measure most 'half' links, you will realise that they are pretty much always 2/3 links 😉
Its so you can get a good fit without relying on the micro adjust.
Different combinations of full and 'part' link give you more options than if they were full and half.
Tudor has always been the watch you bought your kid for graduating school, it’s a CHEAPER Rolex.
@@thenewhallwheeler??!! 🤷🏻♂️
Wish they would do a diver gmt with the spirit line instead and use this bracelet with female endlink and on the fly adjust.
Easy fix on the dial design ...put dots at 1, 5, 7, 11. Keep dot at 9. Change dot at 6 to baton.
Longines seem to be getting it right lately
The only thing stopping me flipping my Tudor GMT for this is the movement accuracy.
I prefer the Zulu time over this. The random assortment of dial indices gives me the yips.
I LIKE it!
Great watch.
Great video, too, btw.
@Longines please make another iteration of this watch without a date and shorter lugs this would sell like moonxswatch 😊
Longines baby.
I'm a fan for sure!
21mm lug width looks much better than 20! Its odd that people rarely mention lug width unless its 21mm!
It looked and felt cheap to me compared to Zulutime.
The front of those lugs looks 'pressed' rather than milled to me : (
How can you not mention the awful gap between the end link and first link??!!
Great review. I think this is a really nice looking piece, with a great bracelet and very wearable dimensions. But I don't like the bezel insert's glossiness. Matt or satin would be way nicer IMO. Also think the hands would look better with a brushed finish. That would look really cool. And as you suggested, a round date window would make a lot of sense here.
Bullshit
If they'd put the date at 6 the 2 circles would be less offputting at 9 and 3.
Yeah considering the spirit zulu time movement has the date at 6 it wouldn't have taken much effort to use in this watch! Maybe for the next version
Kinda like it.. the design looklike my tagheuer
The bezel clicking could be better. The ratcheting is not as robust as others
I love the heritage lines from longines, for instance the legend diver, I am not huge on the zulus but I can appreciate them... The hydroconquests though, as good as the value proposition might be, to me they're just yuck!
Its just nice to see a brand make an effort in each type of watch, the vintage heritage lines, the modern vintage inspired spirit line, and the full on modern conquest and hydroconquest lines! I can see why folks arent fans of the hydroconquest tho, the previous generation wasnt for me at all
Longines has basically unabashedly raided the Rolex stylebook for their recent lineup 😄
I hope the non t gets this update will also be cheaper
Never forget style/design is subjective.
The indices are a throwback to their (not particularly successful) Admiral 5-Star dive watches from the 90's, Longines just hasn't done a great job explaining that.
It looks a lot like a ginault silent service (which is a rolex homage but some design modifications)
The biggest issue with this watch is deciding which color to get it in.
If the date is at 6, the whole look will be more symmetrical. Thanks.
honestly I found this a puzzle of many styles.. doesn't have a own personality i prefer the hydroconquest diver with big numbers
Very cool watch but I don’t get all the hype with gmt watches. Wish this came without the extra hand.
I’m torn between this and the Tudor black bay!
Having the same problem. What did you end up getting?
Wrist size?
Lots to like about this one but the circle indices completely kill it for me.
You failed to mention the fact that the bracelet is held together with pins instead of screws.
Please make it a 39 mm
nah! I'd keep the Bracelet only😅
I never considered Longines would ever make something I like.....until this watch.
But its gotta be a 43mm for me. My 7.5 inch wrist will not let anything under 42 look nice. Sorry.
The indices at 12, 6 and 9 just look off to me. They are too small and need to be larger at the cardinal positions than the rest of the markers for orientation purposes in my opinion.
Ooft, pricey. First thought after hearing the price, just get yourself to the same dealer and get the Sinn 556i, same price for a classier watch with 200m water resistance. Classier looking and much more of a GADA piece.
Longines win over BB Tudor for me. Value for money
