  • Gabby danced with Alan on the Halloween episode of Dancing with the Stars because her partner, Val, contracted COVID-19. Gabby Windey is one of the contestants on the 31st season of Dancing with the Stars (DWTS), but she is most well-known for her appearance on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Even though Gabby has been performing well on this season of DWTS alongside her partner, Val, Gabby had to dance with Alan for the Halloween episode when Val tested positive for COVID-19. Gabby Windey most notably appeared on the 19th season of The Bachelorette. This season of the show was the first ever season where there were joint hosts. However, even though Gabby managed to make an impression on this popular reality television program, she has quite a busy life outside of the television world as well. Gabby spent almost all of her time during the COVID-19 pandemic as an ICU nurse at the University of Colorado Hospital and before that, she also had a brief career as a cheerleader for the Denver Broncos. Dancing With The Stars: Why did Gabby dance with Alan? After Gabby’s season of The Bachelorette aired, she started preparing almost immediately to face her next challenge: competing on season 31 of Dancing with the Stars, which premiered on 19 September 2022 on the Disney+ streaming service. Gabby was initially paired with DWTS veteran and professional dancer, Val Chmerkovskiy, and the pair has danced together for the first six weeks of the show. However, in week seven of the show, for the Halloween episode which aired on 31 October, the pair was in for a real-life scare when Val tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Fortunately, Gabby tested negative for the virus, so this meant that she could continue to compete on the episode and that she could use Val’s choreography, though another professional would have to step in to take Val’s place. As a result, Alan Bersten, who had been voted off of the show in the previous week, stood in for Val temporarily. Although learning to dance with a new partner after having a health scare was quite a challenge, Gabby and Alan managed to execute the fan-favourite Argentine Tango set to a remix of Ed Sheeran’s “Shivers” with Val still recovering and supporting them from home. Aside from this dance where Gabby was paired with Alan, she and Val have had quite a successful run on the show so far, but Gabby has been open about the other challenges that she has faced during the filming of the show. How is Val’s health after this episode aired? After Val announced on an Instagram video that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and that Alan would be taking over as Gabby’s partner for the Halloween episode of DWTS, he set fans at ease by saying that his symptoms were very mild and that he was not feeling terribly ill. Gabby said in an interview that he was just terrified that she would also test positive because of their close contact, but that he could sit back and watch the performance from home once he knew that she did not have the virus. Val has also confirmed that he is well enough to return to the show for its eighth week to continue his partnership with Gabby for as long as they are voted through on the show. How have Gabby and Val been doing in the competition so far? Besides this brief interruption to their partnership, Val and Gabby have had quite a successful run on the show. Gabby and Val’s scores have been high since the beginning, but they have managed to increase these scores every week, which has kept them safe throughout every round of the competition so far. In the “Prom Night” episode of week five of the show, Gabby and Val even earned the first perfect score of the season and six extra bonus points, which solidified their position as one of the top teams on the show this season. Which other challenges had Gabby faced while on DWTS? Although Gabby is no stranger to filming and being in the spotlight, she has been open about the challenges that she has faced on DWTS. Aside from the fact that she had to adapt to dancing with a new partner in the seventh week of the show, she has also found the challenge of embodying a new character for each dance quite challenging. Val’s wife even stepped in during their training session in week six to help Gabby overcome the challenge of trusting and being close to her dancing partner.
