My wife and I are thinking about moving back to the UK from the states, and I'm curious just how inconvenient my 40-foot mid-bunk would be. I imagine most campgrounds can't accommodate that big of a 5th-wheel.

Hi, most campsites take about 30 foot vans there are a lot of farm sites that will take 40 footers if I was you I’d stay in America the poor old UK is falling to pieces. Thanks for following the channel all the best, Paul

@@CCRVUK Thanks for the reply. Do the 5th wheels come with similar water ingress guarantees like motor homes or caravans. If so how long are they and do they come with any other warranties ? 😃😃

How did you manage with the height of your van in Europe ?

    • @robertfisher7723

All unmarked bridges are a minimum of 4 metres clearance. My Rockwood is 3.86 metres. I do use a Garmin caravan / motorhome satnav. I put in the rigs height, width, length ,and weight and it routes me avoiding low, narrow or weak bridges. I also plan the local end of the route using Google maps and street view. The only downside of the height of the rig is nowadays the French Autoroute services have a 3 metre height barrier so I have to fuel up with the trucks.

@@robertfisher7723 thanks rob I’ve driven in Europe for 48 yes in trucks but was concerned about the air con unit on my rockwood . Also on the new model I have it’s now on bigger wheels (16 inch) I need to get a accurate height measurement.

@@bundeo2 Hi Kevin find a level road, then I use a 6ft long level resting on the aircon at the end and around the midle I use a vertical piece of timber (with a soft end so as not to damage the roof membrane - clean trainers etc as well) when level a "G" clamp together then measure with a helper - Jacqui vertically downwards. As the rig is over 3 metres I carry a laminated card with the height in metres and imperial, ie- 3.86 12ft 8 ins ob

Kevin I have a Isuzu DMax 2.5 litre extended cab. This lets me go to 90º truck to van. Not as fast or as powerfull as a Ram but on a holiday with no wind we left Worthing on a Saturday at 0230 wild camped at tea time just south of Inverness. Next morning started at 0700 filled up in Inverness and had breakfast and at 1300 we were in Durness. Topped up the tank there. The fuel consumption worked out at 20.5 mpg, the singletrack roads in 2nd and 3rd gear were heavy on fuel and I think we would have got 21 mpg over all if the roads were wider. Bob
