    This truck started out with a Lift Key & Shock Extender style leveling kit to achieve level stance but as you can see very easy how the suspension was riding locked out and the ride was VERY rough. Raising the front of a Chevy/GMC is not a bad thing if you stay with in the GREEN ZONE to allow suspension movement.
    This truck will be fixed with this product:

    Beware of leveling kits for 2017-2018 GM HD trucks, it will change front axle angles and causes cv joint vibrations in some trucks. A quality lift that actually lowers the front differential works best, keeps axle angle in specification. My son has a 2017 with a 5" lift and no vibration. I used after market torsion key leveling kit. Had to remove it and put my 2017 Duramax 2500 hd back close to factory height to get rid of vibration. And yes that vibration will create heat issues in the cv joints, causing premature failure. Took a few weeks to figure out the problem, with a very helpful GM dealership, but I can now stand to drive this truck again.

    • @NickV70
      @NickV70  6 років тому +1

      I will agree on the benefits of a full lift kit if you are looking for the higher side of 3-4" range. If all you are looking for is a simple 2-3" then a good upper arm that creates more droop travel will work well and not put the CV's in a binding working angle.

    After reviewing all the offset and tire upsize calculators I could find It was determined that a 2004 suburban 2500 4x4 would accommodate up to a 33" tire. Using AR910 rims 20x9 w/18mm offset, I bit the bullet and put Michelin ltx at2 285/55 r 20 on my Burban. Good looks on the rear, but it rubs on the front. More so on right turns. My local garage (installer) is gonna try a torsion level attempt this weekend. I'm trying to avoid trimming any bumper valance attempting to maintain all oem looks aside from the tire/wheel upgrade. Leveling wasn't desired but rubbing certainly isn't. Your thoughts appreciated.

      If you are going to bring the front up a little bit I would do the Cognito UCA's. I had built my wife a 2007 Burb 2500 and we did the Cognito UCA's and leveled it with a 1" rear block and it rode great and looked awesome. We ran a 33x11 tire also.

      Nick.V70 also, im looking at the cognito stage 2. But heres the deal, if installing this equipment will not eliminate the rub issue and im gonna have to trim, then why buy it aside from asthetics? I read the factory travel issues and how thats corrected by the upgrade, but my current ride is good. So is it money well spent and corrects rub or is it something im gonna have to do regardless?
      Also, cognito states the oem shocks must be used in this application.

      Maybe you missed it, that this truck had a key and shock extender kit installed. A shock extender will not fix the upper control arm contacting the frame. You either need to lower the truck but then you will not have the leveled stance you are after or you can look into the product that was shown to fix the problem.

      Joshua Salinas if it only has 1/8 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ then it’s over cranked and will ride firm, if it’s not hitting the frame service perch at 1/8 gap then that means more than likely the shock is holding it from dropping any further, if so then you are maxed out all together and will more than likely blow the shock. Sorry to hear you’re facing this issue after spending money.

    Hey Nick I have a 2005 2500HD 2wd. I was gonna buy a 2.5" leveling kit that comes with re indexed keys and shock extenders. Would I need this upper control arm for my year of truck also? Also, when I install my 2.5" leveling kit, do I have to adjust the keys to the original spec that the factory ones were set at to achieve good ride quality? Thanks

    • @NickV70
      @NickV70  7 років тому +1

      On a 2005 2500HD I would probably go ahead and install a set of torsion lift keys. The reason is that most older HD's will have more miles on them and the torsion bars will settle and you will need that extra adjustment. Just keep in mind that the main issue here is that you want to adjust the ride height as high as you want as long as you maintain the proper droop travel. I suggest that you maintain at least a 2" droop travel at ride height. You check this by measuring from the top of the tire to the fender while the suspension is hanging and once on the ground you adjust the torsion bar keys until you meet that 2" difference from your first droop measurement.

    Hey Nick, I just purchased a GMC 2500 HD. The dealer ship installed Southern Truck leveling kit that just included keys. I have about 1/2 between the lower side of the upper A arm and the frame stop. Wagon trailer is now what I have for a ride. I am experiencing the same clanking sound as noted in this video. With this kit can I keep the keys I have? With this kit did the owner still have occasional a arm clanking noise. The picture clearance with the cognito Upper arms was not that impressive. Does the new fox shocks give the suspension enough lift and stiffness to avoid the clanking and improve overall ride quality.

    • @NickV70
      @NickV70  6 років тому

      Over all on any 2011+ HD set up, stock, leveled or lifted you want to maintain at least 2" of droop travel, as you can see this truck had nothing close to that. With the UCA's added on yes you can use your keys and adjust to proper height and maintain the 2" of droop that is needed. • @NickV70
      @NickV70  5 років тому

      The first thing to note, 2wd and 4wd are the exact same minus the front CV shafts and diff.
      Second, there is not an exactly determined amount of height gained by 1 turn so I have never gone off turns. The suggestion I will give you is based off droop travel. You want to maintain 2" of droop travel.
      -You can simply jack your truck up and allow the suspension to drop out, measure from the top of the tire to the fender. Lower the truck back on the ground and move it back and forward to allow the suspension to settle. Now measure from the top of the tire to the fender. You want to have no less than a 2" difference between both measurements.
      -Let's say you have 3", then you can raise the truck up another inch. If you had 1.25" difference then you want to lower the truck by .75" to get that 2" target.
      -The reason I go after 2" of droop is that will allow the suspension to travel before it tops out. Less than 2" is when you start to get a harsh ride and also will quickly wear out parts on the front end.
      Let me know what you think and if that helps you.
      Thanks!

      @@NickV70 Absolutely helped man thank you. I'll be doing that today. I'm really going through a process of elimination with this in basically trying to find the simplest way to achieve the stance I want. I'm going to be installing some 22X12 -40's with street tires. And don't have any idea how I'll feel about the stance if I just match the front height to the rear VS matching the rear height to the front. I'm going to have to try and see. At this point I'm debating whether I should drop the rear with drop shackles or lift the front. Trying to decide, do it once and not have to mess with it again.

      @@NickV70 Also I mentioned that the truck isn't 4X4 because its lower in the front than 4X4 trucks.

      You are welcome... I'd do this to the front and then once you've finalized the front you can then figure out the rear if you want to use a drop shackle to get the truck dialed.
      I understand how the 4wd and 2wd start off at a different stance but also the 4wd's come at different stances off the showroom floor but overall the suspension and chassis is the exact same so your measurement point do not change.

      @@NickV70 got it. Appreciate the help brother. Also killer chevelles. 70 just happens to be my first love. Had a 396, green with white stripes when I was 16... Was a clone but 100% correct. I loved that car.

    Truck's beyond leveled; it's sitting "bulldog", which to me looks stupid. Anyway, while Cognito makes some great products their UCAs are a Band-Aid. They start to correct upper ball joint angles & keep the UCAs off the droop stops, but they also allow idiots to do the same thing with them that they do with stock UCAs - use longer shocks and keys that are clocked even further to make the lower ball joint, CV, and tie rod angles even worse. They leave CV & tie rod angles bad & 4WD nearly useless.

    Ball joints are shit on this kit!

      That is unfortunate to hear, I have had great luck with them. In most cases, I have found that it's possible that the setup may cause premature wear. You can check the ball joint mounting position plus ensure you have acceptable droop travel, these 2 major things can cause wear.
