As a developer, the thumby really excites me - I’d love to make some kind of mini music sequencer! Also, the USB port could be used for all sorts of stuff… WiFi-enabled thumby, anyone?

One idea I just had was like a dock to let you use a slightly bigger controller. That would be cool, if you could just slot it in, to give up some smallness for actual comfortable controls. Maybe even make it have a flap with a magnifying glass like those gameboy peripherals.

    • @mastercpu2
      @mastercpu2 2 роки тому

@@Yipper64 I’d say a multi-function dock. It houses the WiFi (maybe for updates or downloading new apps) and Bluetooth (for controller support) and maybe even a video out…I know..it’s a novelty thing, and shouldn’t expect a ton out of it..still a neat little thing. 😀

Honestly, I want to see how many "demakes" of original DMG games we can get. I'd love to see a basic RPG Like Dragon warrior/Dragon Quest.
Question though, is there a file size limit per game? as in are games limited to 4-8 kb or is it limited only by the amount of onboard storage?

this thing is pretty neat, I was half expecting it to be able to run actual GameBoy games when you said the processor was a beast compared to the original console. from the games that are aready on there, I'd say a flappy bird clone would be a decent fit. Even tho it's not really a game, I could probably port Conway's Game of Life on there, but the canevas is so tiny I don't think it'd be worth it, I'd still try it most likely, it would be my 8th re-implementation I think.

Someone actually got gameboy games to *play* on the thumby. Emphasis on the word "play" and not "run". The games aren't actually being ran on the thumby, they're being emulated on a computer, scaled down, and sent to the thumby via OTG. It's hardly playable, but it's a pretty cool concept.

The Tiny Circuits game library actually has a Digimon clone called Tiny Monster Trainer, which you can play in dual-player mode using 2 Thumby's and a link cable to connect them. I'd like to see the classic card game "high-low" developed for the Thumby:
    - Starting with a standard deck of cards, you draw a card, then guess if the next card will be higher or lower. You get a point if you're right, game over if you're wrong, and no point if it's a tie (but no game over either). Aces would be low (i.e. equal to 1).
    - When you guess right, your current card is discarded, and the card just drawn is your next starting card to guess against.
    - Every time you clear a full deck of cards, the deck is shuffled and you go again, but this time you get another point per right answer in the next round: 2 points per right guess in round 2, 3 points per right guess in round 3, and so on.
    - It would be a simple, arcade-style high score challenge type of game.
    Controls would be simple:
    Up to guess Higher
    Down to guess Lower
    Either face button to pause
    Menus would be simple, too:
    Main menu: start/exit app
    Game Over menu: restart/exit app
Pause menu: resume play/start over/exit app

I've collected the whole range and I've found that some of the older arcade games lend themselves really fairly well to these smaller consoles. As someone who just started learning micropython, this get me all excited to dive into this marvelous piece of hardware. Can't wait for someone to port Doom for it :D. Also games like pong, space invaders or those get to the other side games. HYPED

I'm curious if someone makes a pokemon clone, it sounds like a fun challenge to play through on a system that small.

Would love to see a side-scrolling plane shooter game like in the arcades back in the day. Or a knock-off of Frogger

A game involving more than one or two systems would be interesting.

As always, great video. I’d like to see the old Atari Game Adventure..it might be hard without a color screen though or maybe Tanks this would be cool too if the link cable comes into play for two players. lol
