  • Fantastic Day on Lough Erne with Rory on his beautiful fast boat. After leaving Enniskillen we headed for Inishmacsaint Island to see the old church and 12th century cross. Then we headed across the lough to locate the resting place of an old boat known as the Endeavour. Finally we headed back to Enniskillen stopping at the famous Devenish Island on the way. We visited the Round Tower, the Old Monastry and the small museum.
Weather was excellent, criac was great and Rory was a brilliant host and skipper.

Lovely garden you have there Ashley..........From the Baltic to the beautiful Lough Erne cruise, smart compact boat, very quiet engine even at speed. Lovely scenery throughout.....and a spot of fishing, nice serene ruins of the church. Devenish was very impressive, especially the tower........what a great way to spend a sunny day(perfect timing to miss the rain)......ATB....Stu..👍

The Lough is our big tourist attraction here and Devenish is very well known too. I was treated to this trip by my friend Rory who was a great host! Our garden is a joint effort, Andrea is the brains, I'm the brawn!! Thanks again for watching, regards Ashley

Garden is coming on great Ashley! That looked a great day on the Lough, a lot of interest along the way and it looked so relaxing on the boat. Great stuff. Cheers. Eddie.

Thx Eddie, Andrea was making ragu today from all the tomatoes and we've enjoyed a good harvest from everything else. The boat trip was a bit different to hiking but it did show the Lough at its finest. My skipper was a great host!! Thanks for watching, regards, Ashley

Don't know why I kept thing of the boating episode of Keeping Up Appearances but I did. To be fair it did look great sun and another fantastic sunny day, no wonder we have not seen it with you hogging it all the time. Famous old boys indeed from your old school. I thought we were going to see a nice fresh trout on the BBQ but it was a nice walk up to the old cross, church and the Tower (Beacon of Faith). Oh I remember those steps going up in a circular way from a few weeks back and I suppose given the summer we have had, the rain had to come at some point, cheers Alan

Thanks Alan, it was a very enjoyable trip but I was never going to fall in or crash the boat - Rory was an excellent host and his boat was a flying machine. If he had caught a fish it would have probably been a little perch which would not have been edible. I do love old historical sites, they keep us grounded and thankful for what we have now. Alas I've been getting little leg injuries lately which have curtailed my plans a bit, but hoping soon to get back on the mountains. Next up, I've a review of a great hotel to look at!! Regards, Ashley

Ashley, a beautiful looking day to explore Lough Erne (Upper and Lower)🛥 72m is way deeper than I thought it would be. Cool to visit some of the islands on the lough and see some of the history - can see why would choose to have monasteries there. A fish would have been perfect for lunch🐟 Cool exploring of a different kind👍

Thanks Gerry, my skipper is big into the detail and I'm sure he's right. I was a very personal tour and I ended up with nearly 50 mins of video footage. Back to hiking next but I've picked up a leg injury and a cold so not ideal - I have a friend who has challenged me to do a wild swim so watch out for that!! Regards, Ashley

The Monastery is in better shape than the one I went to in Strangford, there is a lot more to see.

Everything is bigger and better in Fermanagh!! but then I'm a little biased. Devenish is well worth a visit, very easy to do on the Kestrel Pleasure Boat and you'd get superb drone footage there of the island and the lakes. Thanks for watching, regards, Ashley

Thanks Ashley. It's always great to see videos of the lough. I grew up at Rossclare, across from Inishmacsaint. My parents still live there and i visit as often as I can. I didn't realize that the Endeavour is in the lake. i always remember seeing it at a jetty at Rossigh, but it was in bad shape and full of holes. I wonder if it broke free in a storm or something and then was just left where it ran aground. I just assumed that it had been disposed of when it was no longer at Rossigh.

Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. Rory was the Endeavour expert, and seem to suggest that it was skuttled there. Not too many of us remember the Endeavour!! I really enjoyed this trip with Rory, he made it very interesting and was full of lake knowledge and history. Regards, Ashley

I also see that you said you are an Old Portoran, as am I. I was there 1989-1996. When were you there? @@ashleyjarnold
