  • As a LA Sanitation volunteer, it is one of our many jobs to clean up trash and recycle from the event. We don't only take the event trash, but any trash that is hanging around the yard because we like to leave the place better than we found it. All the trash and recycle are sorted, and are set out in one big line for trucks to come collect. Although I was a bit disappointed at the SLA and Harbor Yard, because they mixed everything in, and it wasn't efficient at all. This is all done at 1:30 or shortly after, when everybody is supposed to be gone. The yard afterwards is only open to city employees and volunteers, so we are able to finish up any work we missed. So here are the cleanups from the past 3 years. Oh and some clips are cut short because some of the filming kids ( and sadly some adult filmers who aren't volunteers) kept talking and walking into my shots. 1:30pm means everybody guys ;)
For anyone interested the trucks featured are:

Nice video Kanyisa! I've always found the cleanups interesting, too bad I haven't been able to film one haha it's okay. I like the different trucks they use for them, from the Diesel minis to the new CNGs.

Did you really have to put them on blast on social media so that they would get in trouble? I mean, I’m sure you could of asked and found who the person in charge was, and spoke to them about your concerns. As a volunteer , I’m sure you could of made a difference by bringing it up to someone’s attention. Another thing is that you apparently dislike the teenagers and/or adults filming, but I’ve been to about 8 events and they are all in one sections and never been rude or disruptive. If they were in your way you should keep in mind that you have been in the way of the people who attend the event as well because you have also been annoying with the drone. And you need to stop being so rude to people and get off your high horse. You should be helping as a “volunteer” instead of filming ! These kids have only been trying to help, and apparently have been doing more than you. These kids are all good kids, and this is their hobby, but you don’t see that. You should try to focus on the good instead of bashing everyone. Hope they get rid of the volunteers who don’t help but sure do criticize LIKE YOU!!!

Actually, a lot of them go in places they’re not supposed to and get into situations that should have never happened. My bosses have told me and the other volunteers to spread this message, since I am close with a lot of them. There have been way too many incidents where people get hurt and we are trying to prevent them from ending up like them. Also, I’m not bragging but most of the time myself and a couple of others are the ones who do the most work. Ask any of the bosses. I arrive to the yards before 6:00 and don’t leave until at least 3:00, way after the event is over because I am making sure I left everything better than I found it. I’m not saying they can’t film or hang out, I’m saying that we have a bunch of rules that they should follow, and it’s annoying as heck when they’re not cooperative. This video was taken over the last 3 years, it would be longer but I had work to do. So with all due respect, keep your biased opinion about our work, and my work, to yourself. Because you clearly have no idea what actually happens the whole day.

Sharon Gudiel And I think you have me mistaken for someone else, I do not operate any drone at the events. Again don’t judge me on your outside perspective, get all the details before you do.

North Central Refuse I understand that there’s rules, and because I work in HR, I know the laws and the liability to the company. I have been in the events from start to finish, either walking through the booths where your annoying drone is above, or sitting down until the end. What I said was that you need to bring it up to someone higher than you instead of running to social media. I have been to a few events, and the employees are nice, courteous and friendly. I have seen how hard they work and how they work together as a team and organized everything after the event. If you were asked to pass the word around to the ones filming after the event, you should try saying it or responding in a respectful way. Courtesy goes a long way. Maybe your boss needs to see how rude you reply to messages because you have no leadership skills. I have the screenshots to show them so that they can see for themselves.

Sharon Gudiel Again, I’m not the person with the drone. I am someone else. A lot of these kids are my friends, and I was asked to let them know the rules. I have given them the rules many times, personally and socially. But they keep making the same mistakes. I’m not the one you should be pressing, surely you would understand being annoyed if the point you’re trying to get across is not being seen. The bosses are well aware of this situation. But I’m telling you, you’re really looking at this the wrong way, there’s a lot that goes into the inside operations, and you’re not seeing that.

North Central Refuse Obviously, I don’t see everything so I only state what I have observed.
All I’m asking is that you not reply in rude ways because that’s not going to get you heard. Sometimes it takes many times to repeat yourself, but the message will get through sooner than later when the word is passed around. Be respectful if you want respect.
