I am happy I found this video!!🎉 You are amazing for creating this straight to the point video with step by step instructions. I just replaced mine with no problems!!! THANK YOU❤
Thanks, Flexx. I have a 2014 CLS 550 with the same steering wheel and the install went off without a hitch. I was nervous about messing with the airbag, so I really appreciate the thorough how to video. Definitely disconnected the battery first.
You sir are a legend. Just did this today, followed your advice. I feel like I have a brand new car - all for the price of just the steering wheel trim piece! I got quoted $560 (Australian) for this job at the dealer. Felt so good to be able to do it yourself
Love your videos. Just got my 2013 C300. My 1st benz ever. Sadly the rear subframe is broken so im waiting for a new one to come. Ive only got to drive it 2 times since i purchased it. But i love watching all your videos. Thanks
What is weird is how this situation is sooooo common. My GF went to the dealer and they wanted $500 to replace the part... Thanks for the video, it sure helps those of us who don't have money to toss around.
That’s the most important part! If you don’t disconnect the battery or pull the airbag fuse, you run the risk of having the airbag cause injury. Plus disconnecting the airbag while the battery is still connected will cause an airbag fault stored as a check engine light.
No nonsense, to the point. Great help. My battery is not is the engine bay though, i think they are under the boot (trunk) liner and there is two of em (c63) i hope by removing negative on both doesn't cause a problem.
I can't believe this is an issue with these cars. I had a 2004 C 320 and all the plastic was much better - especially in this most basic of faults - sharp plastic! Thanks for the video. Q: How about just sanding the rough edges down carefully. Has anybody had any luck with this, especially without removal first. I say this with a bleeding thumb at the moment!
If you have an ML350 W166 (mine is a 2014) where the bottom part of the spoke does not go to the center but splits to approximately the 8 and 4 o'clock position, then the screws on the back are T10, or you can also use a T9. I could not find this information anywhere so it was a lot of trial and error for me, I started with a T15 and went up, but turned out I should have went down. I thought my screw was stripped so since I was going to replace the bottom bezel anyway, I cut it up with tin snips, then broke apart the bottom bezel until the screw on one side released due to the plastic breaking. Then I was able to easily unscrew the other side once I angrily realized it was a tiny T9 or T10 bit that was needed! Also for mine I did not unplug the battery. I carefully kept the airbag connected and routed through the opening of the steering wheel trim. Since the cable is relatively long, it's pretty easy to work with replacing the trim while the airbag is still connected. Plus on the W166, the battery is under the passenger front seat! Why?!
Really useful video dude, many thanks! Just changed mine on my E-Class Cabriolet for an AMG Trim, and looks great! (Airbag removal was a real bitch though, but got there in the end!)
I've owned 3 2012-2014 C and E classes. I'm actually astonished that Mercedes didn't fix that after the first year of this model steering wheel. Just so not MB. Add in the flaking of the black "paint" on all of the buttons and it really diminishes these models. However, I really dislike most of the body styles after 2014 so I'm glad there is a fix for this. I picked a C300 up from the factory in Sindelfingen and within two months the driver window button was flaking.
Yup. And the sad thing is…my 2016 c300 has a silver trim/button to open the center armrest and that trim already started peeling/bubbling within 30,000 miles. They covered it under warranty but like come on guys.
So, I just fitted a similar CF item to my C250 Coupe - would so much prefer this clip in (mine is a self-adhesive garnish) looks sweet but not as OEM as a replacement part....
Thank you very much! Cut my fingers several times already with these annoying sharp edges. Just ordered the trim from Amazon. Can you please tell me if disabling the car battery will cause any issues? I read online that it could screwup the window settings and other things that could need a dealer to fix.
Thanks Flexx. Is there any way you know of for retrofitting illuminated vents and mirror puddle lights like those in the Extended Lighting Package? Your illuminated door lights tutorial was ace, I’d like to add these two extras too though.
I'm having a very difficult time trying to remove the airbag on a 2013 C250. Mine didn't have holes in the back of the steering wheel, it had indentions. So I stuck a screwdriver in and pressed all over inside there and cannot seem to pop those clips. Any advice? How far to stick in? What angle? Anything else I'm not considering? UPDATE. I finally got it. Best to use a Flathead or even a Allen head. Put the steering wheel with the top point of the Mercedes emblem pointing straight up. Then the angle of the screwdriver should be parallel with the surface of the steering wheel and using the left and right points of the Mercedes emblem as a guide, from the indention or hole, push the screwdriver towards the center point of the steering wheel.
Hey Alexander, thank you for the video first of all. Quick questions, does the steering wheel must be in a straight forward position in order for the airbag to pop?
So amazing. Was wondering if you had a source for the parts? I would like to replace a black bezel that is loosing its black "paint" and the switches. thanks a million
Does disconnecting the battery mess anything up? like sensors? or is it fine no issues? Have ordered replacement which I plan on doing just wondered f there were any possible issues that could arise
Not 100% sure on the CLS but most Benz, the aux battery is only used for small functions like the start/stop function, serves as backup to the gear selector, heated seats and some other command functions. I’ve taken apart the steering wheel on my 2013 c300 and my 2016 c300 without having to disconnect the aux batt.
I got a left malfunction code for the air bag for disconnecting it. Gonna do the Scanner tomorrow see if it erases the error code. Also you can try and disconnect under the seat the yellow i believe for the ai bag to see if it does anything
Most people get an error cause they didn’t follow the most important step which is to disconnect the cars battery before doing anything. If you did do that and still got an error, then there’s a faulty connection.
Sometimes it’s just a matter of driving around and letting the car relearn/recharge the battery. I don’t recommend you drive around with the airbag light on.
@TheFlexxGarage Yeah that's what I believe also , they told me to disconnect the battery and leave it for 30 min and reconnecting it again but that will be after I drive for a while to see if it relearns it. If not I'm giving the dealer a call
I have 2015c300. The volume buttons are worn off. So I def have to remove the way you did right? Is there any other way. Like pop off the button like it’s snapped on. Kind of like a computer keyboard button . Thanks
Same problem. Also on back button on wheel. Already bought new trim, but still looking for these button. Thanks for tutorial dude) but should I unplug “+” on battery or just “-“ ?
Negative is enough, because the car body is connected to it. Electricity flow to components through wires, then flow back through car body. Unplugging negative will cut the circuit. Even sometimes you want to unplug positive for some reason, it's recommended to unplug negative first. Because when unplugging positive, wrench may accidentally touch the car body, creating spark. All modern car connect negative to car body, some very old or special car may need to double check.
Alexander my airbag didn't pop out but its lose in the steering wheel, can't push it back in and it won't come out, can you help with this? Tried my best, might need a new steering wheel at this rate.
im trying to install a carbon trim but I can’t find the clip inside the little hole what way do I have to push the screw driver or how do I know I’m putting it on the right spot
Thanks for this video. I have a strange question I wonder if you can answer. After having BMW's for many years I've gotten used to the radio controls on the left side of the wheel. Do you think there would be an issue switching the wires for the buttons? I know the buttons themselves can't be switched and they would not be labled correctly but I really want the ability to control the volume with my left hand. Also, have you replaced the drivers vent? I need a video for that too. Thanks
Don’t really need a specific screwdriver. You just need something that’s skinny and long enough to pierce the sides and push the tab to release the airbag. Even a skinny rod will work.
@@TheFlexxGarage I tried for 5 minutes and didn’t want to damage the vinyl I put the screw driver through on both sides. I can’t get either side to release.
Guys I have a problem with my buttons. The left ones are kinda sticky (bought a used model) they work, but you have to press them sturdy. Do I need to replace them or can I just clean them somehow?
I know this is an old video and hope you’re still replying to comments. Just done this on my car, but since reconnecting the battery some of the electrics seem to be playing up. Wing mirrors now don’t fold and the windows won’t go up properly (almost as if it things something is stopping it as it retracts back down). Any advice please!
Never happened to me in all my times of disconnecting batteries from multiple cars from different brands. I’ve been told just drive around, start and stop the car a few times through normal driving, the ecu will relearn and everything will correct itself. And for the windows/mirrors, there’s a relearning process you can try. There’s tons of UA-cam videos on them. ua-cam.com/video/faeDJZqCQEY/v-deo.htmlsi=Hrdq83W1vd4_9vVA ua-cam.com/video/Q9016USuZWw/v-deo.htmlsi=bcrZoHhjwnUWMA1R
This is late but the windows require a basic reset. Just have all the windows on closed position when power on. With all 4 fingers hold the windows up at the same time. Stay that way for 7-8 seconds. So it knows the final close position. It'll auto close normally
The same thing happened to the handles to get to the back seats and I’ve had to put tape on it because it cut up a friends hand pretty bad. Any idea as to what to do for that ?
Same thing on my coupe. I cut my shoulder several times going into my back seat to clean it. I peeled off as much of the chrome from the handle and then I wrapped it with gloss black vinyl wrap. So far so good and looks better.
Hey mate, I drive a 2013 C300. I’m in Australia so probz a diff spec than American ones. I tried the whole process everything works, but I have the airbag light on and a restrain system malfunction… any advice on it?
Not sure. The replacement has nothing to do with those error lights. On my car, sometimes when my battery is low or I disconnect the battery, when I reconnect it…I’ll get an airbag light and I think traction control error light but they go away after I drive the car for 10-20mins and the battery charges up.
hey budy, great video as always, I been able to perform lots of things thanks to your videos, thanks so much, you always come up with neat stuff and useful ones like this one, how ever I had my finger sliced but not on the steering wheel vesel but in the lever to move the seat on my 2012 coupe, I have not seen any videos on how to remove this piece or even where to get a replacement part for it, do you have any information you can share, thanks a lot again, keep up the good work. later and greetings from Chile.
If you read my replies to some of the comments in this video, I mentioned that happened to me too. I don’t really know how to remove it. All I did was peel off the chrome as much as possible so the white plastic is exposed. And then I put gloss black vinyl wrap over it. Worked for me.
@@TheFlexxGarage Hey thanks for such a quick response, I thought of doing something similar, but before doing it I wanted to know what you can tell me about it. thanks....
if you are using a bit screwdriver, try a different bit that goes all the way inside the hole, slightly press and then push towards the front (facing yourself) and it should pop out.
I haven’t seen any. The only thing I saw are carbon fiber overlays decals/stickers. They look good but they’re don’t completely cover everything on the trim.
Hey flex i recently did this same trim replacement, when disconnecting the airbag and then reinstalling it after i secured the bezel, my airbag seems to not be connected and i get a malfunction notification, is there a wrong way to put the airbag wire in?
Umm yeah. You took a huge risk by playing with the airbag while the car is connected with power. That’s like changing a lightbulb while a lamp is still plugged in and the lightbulb is turned on. You are very lucky nothing bad happened. If you did what you did….As soon as you disconnected the airbag, you created the fault in the cars computer making the computer think the airbag has failed because the airbag is no longer sending a signal back to the computer. The only way to fix it is to get a OBD2 code reader and clear the fault code. Some autozone might do it for you but you might have to get your own code reader or you need a shop to do it. If you disconnected the battery, you can unplug or plug anything you want and the computer of the car won’t care cause it’s basically asleep with no power. Please take this as a lesson learned. Last thing I wanna hear is somebody getting hurt because an airbag blew up in their face.
Is it enough what? Enough to kill the power to the car? Of course it is. Unless you have another power source that’s still connected that you don’t know about.
Yes. As mentioned in the video, this flaking problem is a known issues in the c-class. And it will get sharp and you can cut yourself pretty bad on it.
@@TheFlexxGarage somehow it look different on mine. It's the model after 2018 and it's 2 parts, one in aluminium and one in black plastic, not full aluminium like yours
Probably the car battery was weak and didn’t have enough juice to turn on all the accessories of the car (including the screen)? I don’t know. You should let DMP know anyway.
Do you happen to know how to change the buttons? I took out the trim and the buttons shell but the button are still in the shell and idk how to pop them out. Please help
Don’t know. Not sure if they are meant to be changed. You might need to change the entire piece that houses the buttons. 🤷🏻♂️ There are aluminum button overlays available on eBay. They have double-sided tape and the button overlays goes right over the oem buttons. I installed some on my friends car and it actually looked good and it worked well.
To change buttons you have to push up with any finger holding the button so you can reach the two sides where you can see white on the back of the buttons also some are on the side, when you have the button up you then put the flat head screw driver on one side of the white clips towards inside when you push the white thing push down unclipping but not really you push down until it feels like it's unclipped might feel pressure on the other side cause it's holding on to the other side and then just do the other side and at some point you will see that if it feels like it's out on one side the other side needs to be like the side you started holding it up and kinda unclipping it by putting the flat head into it by the white clip...after the button that is alone on top on both side it's either the 1.go back and the to 2.speak button I believe those are easier you do the same just push it back in when your done putting the new one it has its own place where it holds on top of the other buttons. When you take them off there is going to be some white plastics inside each button save them you have to put them back in when putting the new buttons in.

This is late but the windows require a basic reset. Just have all the windows on closed position when power on. With all 4 fingers hold the windows up at the same time. Stay that way for 7-8 seconds. So it knows the final close position. It'll auto close normally
It’s sold out on eBay, any other recommendations?
The same thing happened to the handles to get to the back seats and I’ve had to put tape on it because it cut up a friends hand pretty bad. Any idea as to what to do for that ?
Same thing on my coupe. I cut my shoulder several times going into my back seat to clean it.
I peeled off as much of the chrome from the handle and then I wrapped it with gloss black vinyl wrap. So far so good and looks better.
Flexx Alexander thanks man, the chrome is a real safety hazard lol
Also. Does anyone know where to purchase the AMG logo for the botton to replace the one stating "Airbag" on?
Hey mate, I drive a 2013 C300. I’m in Australia so probz a diff spec than American ones. I tried the whole process everything works, but I have the airbag light on and a restrain system malfunction… any advice on it?
Not sure. The replacement has nothing to do with those error lights. On my car, sometimes when my battery is low or I disconnect the battery, when I reconnect it…I’ll get an airbag light and I think traction control error light but they go away after I drive the car for 10-20mins and the battery charges up.
Hey, no issues with airbag lights or anything because of unplugging it?
Not if you disconnect the battery like I mentioned in the video.
I am planning to do that on my 2013 E350. The steering wheel/Bezel looks exactly the same. Do you have any suggestion?
Not sure. I wanna say they are the same steering wheel but I’m not 100% sure exact. However the process is exactly the same.
@@TheFlexxGarage Thank you! By the way, your video is awesome!
hey budy, great video as always, I been able to perform lots of things thanks to your videos, thanks so much, you always come up with neat stuff and useful ones like this one, how ever I had my finger sliced but not on the steering wheel vesel but in the lever to move the seat on my 2012 coupe, I have not seen any videos on how to remove this piece or even where to get a replacement part for it, do you have any information you can share, thanks a lot again, keep up the good work. later and greetings from Chile.
If you read my replies to some of the comments in this video, I mentioned that happened to me too. I don’t really know how to remove it. All I did was peel off the chrome as much as possible so the white plastic is exposed. And then I put gloss black vinyl wrap over it. Worked for me.
@@TheFlexxGarage Hey thanks for such a quick response, I thought of doing something similar, but before doing it I wanted to know what you can tell me about it. thanks....
Have trouble with infotainment buttons pealing, can they be replaced just as easy as yo did the steering wheel buttons?
They screw right off but you gotta change the entire button and it’s electronics. I don’t know if you can pop off the buttons alone.
I couldn’t get mine (air bag) to release messed up some of my steering wheel trying. What gives
What did you mess up?
I’m having trouble with removing the airbag, battery off but airbag will not pop out for me when I push on it w screwdriver
I’m having the same problem did you ever figure it out
I got the left popped off right now.. right side won’t budge
Did any of you sort it out? Both sides on mine haven't popped out, but they're loose, can't even push it back into place now
if you are using a bit screwdriver, try a different bit that goes all the way inside the hole, slightly press and then push towards the front (facing yourself) and it should pop out.
Alexander, why have you removed the Android screen from the car? Is it inconvenient or not performing well?
Did you even watch the video? I’m in my wife’s car.
Is there any website that sells the carbon fiber one cheap? On Ebay, most of them are close to $300
I haven’t seen any. The only thing I saw are carbon fiber overlays decals/stickers. They look good but they’re don’t completely cover everything on the trim.
@@TheFlexxGarage Thank you. I might need to settle down with the OEM one.
Why wont you just wrap it in like 5D carbon vinyl before you put it on then?
@@TheFlexxGarage that's a good idea. I should just wrap it on my current one. That will save me some money. Thanks!
Andrew Kim yo did you wrap the trim? I’m looking to do the same thing.
Hey flex i recently did this same trim replacement, when disconnecting the airbag and then reinstalling it after i secured the bezel, my airbag seems to not be connected and i get a malfunction notification, is there a wrong way to put the airbag wire in?
c300 2014
1) did you disconnect the car battery before removing the airbag? And did the battery stay disconnected when you reinstalled the airbag?
@@TheFlexxGarage i mistakenly forgot to disconnect the battery during the installation, is there any way to resolve that or will i need a new airbag?
Is it enough just to disconnect the minus cable on the battery?
Is it enough what? Enough to kill the power to the car? Of course it is. Unless you have another power source that’s still connected that you don’t know about.
Dude what about the elegance version, I have one and I can´t found the bezel
C200 W204 VERSION 2014
I have no clue what an elegance version is. We don’t have that in the US. My videos are for my US spec cars.
Is that the original steering wheel? I don’t have that problem yet, but if it ever comes to that, at least I’ll be prepared.
Tito Alo If u have a 2018 u have a W205 C Class
Hey flexx. I also have a screen from dmp car design and after I disconnected the battery and reconnected it. The android screen won’t turn on?
I don’t know. You need to contact them for support. I’ve never heard of that happening before.
@@TheFlexxGarage thanks flexx. The screen actually ended up turning on after starting the car like 4 times and letting it run for a while
Probably the car battery was weak and didn’t have enough juice to turn on all the accessories of the car (including the screen)? I don’t know. You should let DMP know anyway.
My 2013 e350 has paddle shifters do they need to be removed, if so how do I do it.
Has nothing to do with paddles. My steering wheel has paddles.
Do you happen to know how to change the buttons? I took out the trim and the buttons shell but the button are still in the shell and idk how to pop them out. Please help
Don’t know. Not sure if they are meant to be changed. You might need to change the entire piece that houses the buttons. 🤷🏻♂️
There are aluminum button overlays available on eBay.
So you don’t even have to remove the airbag or anything to do this?
Bro I been trying to move the airbag for so long and do it lol
Mine doesnt have those holes, rather a cavity
