    Really enjoy your content. In the 1960's we crossed a large framed Hereford bull on Simmentaler heifers, then crossed them with an Akrikander bull (local breed for drought and tick resistance), and fibally back to Simmentaler Bull for that huge frame and MEAT. Great market weights straight off the natural veld.

    In my opinion, you’d make an excellent guest teacher in a high school biology class in Gregor Mendel’s hereditary traits. With pics of purebreds and comparing with several in your present herd, your illustrations would add to the conceptual learning and understanding of the topic. Think of it. Any good teacher welcomes additional educators as a resource. Instead of an actual in-person visit, create a You Tube video. With your technical talents, it could be accomplished!

    Another great update on your farm and herd, congrats on the new bulls, seems like they are really ready to mate, lol. Again love how despite the herd getting out they never seem to run off to far and once they see you they come running. Keep up the fantastic job you are doing, the updates that you and other people in the farm and ranch lifestyles help everyone understand what it is like to do this.

    If you plan on feeding out a couple of animals, I suggest using a Wagyu bull.
    I have a good demand for the Calves I raise.
    The meat is juicy, delicious and tender.
    In one cross (F1) you can have a PRIME PRODUCT.

    It's not an easy endeavor being a farmer, no matter where your at. Love from Colorado, I hear black Angus tend to be a little ornery.

    I am glad to hear that most of your cows have calved out already. Maybe it will be a good thing that you sold the stocker cattle. I will say that you might want to watch your heifer bottle calves, it’s not uncommon for a heifer that young to get bred. I hope the bulls treat you good.

    • @FarmandHammer
      @FarmandHammer  Рік тому

      Yeah, I’ve got my eye on the heifer calves. They will actually be getting shipped soon. So far I think they are too small to cycle but I know there is always a chance.

      Anything with any ear gets docked heavily at my sale barn.
      If your in the “deep” south, I could see a guy having some success with eared cattle. But all the packers and feedlots want black hided cattle that will
      Finish out around 1500 pounds.
      Just the way it is unfortunately.

    Honestly I don't no how'd you have the grass or hay right now to expand your heard, we are having to sell some cows out of our heard right now cause we are currently out of feed and hay is just out of the budget and I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation.

    • @FarmandHammer
      @FarmandHammer  Рік тому

      Normally I would not have room for more but I specifically under stocked the rental farm knowing I’d be keeping some heifers back or buying more fall calving cows. I’ve got about 40 acres of summer perennials that have not been grazed yet. After selling the Holstein cross steers, I’d have about 3 acres per cow over there. We have been blessed with good rain so far this year so that has helped a lot. Hopefully the year starts looking better for y’all!

    • @FarmandHammer
      @FarmandHammer  Рік тому

      I’ll probably run a low birthweight beefmaster bull on the heifers. Eared cattle don’t sell very well around here but beefmasters have just enough ear to make them heat tolerant but not too much to get them docked at the sale barn.
