Great buck man. I respect the honesty at the end with you shooting all of your arrows and running back to get more. Could have made it seem like it was one shot and he piled up shortly after. Sometimes things get western and people tend to forget it’s not always perfect. Always enjoy your content 👍🏽
Haha! You know it! I left out that I forgot to drink or eat anything since 4AM that day and my last attempt to get another arrow in the buck was at 1:30PM. I was down to one arrow and shaking uncontrollably... Like what was I thinking! lol Also, when i ran back to my truck, I dropped my pack with all my food and water in it and didn't even think to drink something at the truck. I was just super focused on recovery. Still shocked at how far that buck went. My shot was 43-yards and i put my 40-yd pin on him. Was low by about 3-inches.

Love the video man. I’m hoping to get my first black tail this season in SW Washington. New guy to hunting in the last three years I’ve only spent a handful of weekends out. This year I’m determined but between work and family it’s hard to get time out there. Love how you just walk around and see deer at all times of the day. I’ve been going with my dad since I was just a kid - started off with dad saying, “ you guys just stay in the truck, I’ll be right back”. Hahah! He ended up getting that buck. Haha! I watch that film now and I’m like... why did I make that look easy. Lol I typically see them for moments and never get any film. I think those younger bucks knew that the camera guy was not a threat.
Thank you!! It sure can be difficult to find an old buck. Especially with harsh winters and lots of predators. It’s rare I see more than 3 or 4 old bucks a season. I’m still blown away that it worked out for me this year. I guess being willing to beat up the body and spend the time - things tend to work out!

Nathan, Very cool video, looks like you had a great year, for sure! Is the density of deer that thick to see all those deer in 1 or 2 days? or was all that form several days? Thanks brother, keep up the good work!
Thank you! Glad you liked the film! This year was pretty incredible considering all of the obstacles, including evacuation from my home from fires. The deer density is not very high. I am covering about 10-miles a day and I had film from four days of hunting. It’s hard not to be discouraged when you cover that many miles and see 6-deer in a day but with knowledge and effort things eventually work out.
Awesome hunt. Congrats! Can’t believe how close those Blacktails come in up there in Oregon. Hunted them and Black Bears up in N.CA Sierras and didn’t get close enough for one drawback. Maybe next season I’ll make it up to Oregon. Brother in law lives in Salem. If you don’t mind what region of Oregon was this taken?
There is certainly a correlation between hunting pressure and how spooky the deer are. I will admit I’m going to places where deer do not commonly see people. Also, I am moving very slow and catch the deer before the see me. Check out the Rich Outdoors podcast, episode 400, still hunting blacktail deer. It explains the methods. Feel free to DM me on Instagram too for questions about Oregon. @nathan4you.
I have hunted elk out there. Probably best to look for new units on Timber company land and where it transitions to thick reprod units. I have buddies who see good bucks down near the coast. Good luck!

What an awesome hunt! A bear and a big Blacktail! I’m still out there trying to get my first archery deer before the season ends. Do there seem to be more deer up further into the cascades than down closer to the valley? Does the snow help hunting them?
Thank you! This was a pretty sweet season for sure! Typically, there are less deer up high but there is a better chance of seeing an older buck. Also, Still hunting is easier when you can see the direction and quantity of tracks. Points me in the right direction.

I called one buck in this year. It was the 4x3. I still hunt, or more accurately, I cover a lot of miles while trying to remain as quiet as possible while constantly scanning my line of site in hopes of seeing the deer before they see me. It works out a couple times per year and i get lucky.
@@pnwexplorer5343 Primos Can call. I do not tip it but just blow on the call. You can hear me do this sometime in the middle of the film. I only do this as a second opportunity or when the buck catches my movement.
Awesome buck, I prefer rifle. You only do archery? I'm from Oregon but never moved back because of all the democrats and Californian's moving there. I'm in Colorado now but moving to Idaho in the summer. I'll be hunting coastal black tail in one of my favorite units come October. Happy hunting.
Thank you!! Right on! I wish I lived in Idaho. I rifle hunt for opportunity outside of Oregon but with my resident tags, I only bow hunt. I’m working on a blacktail tactics film that should be out prior to season!
@@NathanEndicott_Films I thought they gave bow hunters the early season before they got pressured and let the rifle hunters go after them when they were pressured and hard to get close to.
@@colepriceguitar1153 the bow hunt for blacktail early is not very successful and a lot of guy won’t go. The any legal weapon season is five weeks long and ends at the start of the pre-rut, I wouldn’t call it an after deer are pressured hunt because the rifle is a lot of pressure and gets the highest harvest rates. The late archery is the last hunt of the year and the deer are peak rut when it starts so the season is a little late for best deer activity.
@@NathanEndicott_Films thats odd. Deer and elk are normally archery first than post rut rifle. Are there many whitetails in western Oregon? And if so is their season the same?
@@colepriceguitar1153 there is a special hunt for whitetail on the west side of oregon. I’ve never looked into the hunt. I’ve taken a whitetail in NE Oregon and that where numbers are the highest

What is not shown is that I put in a lot of miles. I do show that I’m up early and hiking to get to the deer by daylight. Basically, I put in a lot of miles to see the deer I do in a day but I spend a lot of time in spots where the deer have grouped up for the rut.
I do not call very often. It’s typically a last resort. I called in a small 3x4 on film but all the others were approached by still hunting. Thank you! Big bodies too. Just incredible animals.
El Guapo mas macho could be. I’ve never DNA tested any of my deer.
@El Guapo mas macho do you rifle, muzzleloader, or bow hunt?
Awesome film as usual! I'm getting into hunting blacktail and I'm wondering what elevation to chase them in November? I'm looking towards the high country western oregon as well.
@@MrPress6 it all depends on the spot. Each area is a little unique.
What An Awesome hunt man! Congrats on a Stud Blackie!!
Thank you!! I still can’t believe this neat old buck walked into bow range. The hunt is incredible!
I’ve been going with my dad since I was just a kid - started off with dad saying, “ you guys just stay in the truck, I’ll be right back”. Hahah! He ended up getting that buck. I was like five years old.
Over the years dad and I have continued to share experiences like this film. It’s hard to explain so I’m happy I tried to get some film this year. Just difficult to self film and be successful. Maybe next time.
I grew up the same way man! Haven’t been able to hunt with my Pops for a couple years but gonna make it happen next fall!! Thank you for sharing your experiences 🙏🏻
Beautiful buck!! Don’t see many that nice !
roger warnike thank you! He has such a unique face and heavy tall rack 🙏🏽.
Bad ass Buck hunter bro!!!
🙏🏽🤙🏽 thanks!
Way to stack some amazing animals this year Nate! Congratulations and thank you for sharing
Thank you 🙏🏽. I’m happy I was able to share that hunt. It’s a special one for us Endicott’s.
Awesome video! Great shot placement! All around awesome man!
Thank you! My shot was a little low but I lucked out and hit one lung. Glad you liked the film! I should have another available soon!
Awsome buck dude! Blacktails are the best!
Thank you! Super agree!
Nathan that was a heck of a video congrats on filling all your tags. Can't wait for the next one, thanks for sharing your experience and tips you've definitely got it down👍
Thank you!
I will try to add more helpful tips and strategy in my next films.
@@NathanEndicott_Films you have definitely inspired me to go after it during next bow season 👍. Do you move slower when the ground gets loud with the hard pack?
@@derekwells3136 Yes. But the deer make noise too. It is a matter of hearing or seeing them before they see you. I have had them come to me because i was making just a little noise.
What a cool adventure
That late really is! One of my favorite hunts of all time is the late blacktail hunt.
@@NathanEndicott_Films it is absolutely my favorite.
Great videos.
Thank you 🙏🏽
Congratulations Nate!! Great buck! Always a bonus getting your arrows back too!
I had to run back to the pickup for those arrows! I explain the story in the last segment of the film!
Beautiful buck! Not nearly enough blacktail hunts on UA-cam. Blacktails don't get no love.
Exactly! I am really happy I finally documented that hunt. More to come!
That because they are ghosts and trophy quality blacktails are rare. This man is a ghost buster.
Awesome footage Nathan! Very nice buck and super cool story!
Appreciate the kind feedback!
Nice buck
Very nice buck
Thank you 🙏🏽
Wow, what an incredible hunt! As a fellow oregon blacktail hunter, I know how hard it is to find that many deer, not to mention self filming yourself hunting them! Congrats on a great buck I would've settled for the forky😂
New sub👍
Haha! I watch that film now and I’m like... why did I make that look easy. Lol
I typically see them for moments and never get any film. I think those younger bucks knew that the camera guy was not a threat.
Been there to lol 😂 👍🏼 Great job! And nice buck.
Haha! Right on. Hey thank you!
Monster congrats 👍
Thank you! I was pretty happy to cross paths with him!
This deserves way more views lol great stuff man, beautiful scenery too
Thank you 🙏🏽.
Glad you liked my film. That high country blacktail hunt is one of a kind.
Very Good video! Thanks for sharing these adventures.
You bet! Hopefully, more to come.
Great footage as always. That's a great buck. Nice work
Thank you!!
Man you are gonna end up costing me a lot of money cause I want to come to Oregon now haha. Awesome hunts man loved the video.
Hahah!! You bet! There is nothing like still hunting the old growth timber looking for an old blacktail buck!
Way to go on the most difficult of all the deer to harvest a trophy. Best I ever did was a heavy 3 x 3 blacktail. Awesome video.
Thank you!! It sure can be difficult to find an old buck. Especially with harsh winters and lots of predators. It’s rare I see more than 3 or 4 old bucks a season. I’m still blown away that it worked out for me this year. I guess being willing to beat up the body and spend the time - things tend to work out!
@@NathanEndicott_Films One thing I have learned after 50 years of hunting is the best hunts are the ones you work hardest for. Those are the hunts that are most memorable, at least for me.
@@idaho2ndgens240 super agree with that! I’m sure you’ve got some good stories too! Did most of those years hunting take place in Idaho?
@@NathanEndicott_Films The last 30 years in Idaho, Some Oregon, WA and Alaska.
@@idaho2ndgens240 covered the PNW pretty well!
Congratulations Nathan .
Good video! Good job on your bear and your deer.
Thank you!!
Awesome solo hunt! Congratulations!
Thank you! The late blacktail hunt is by far my favorite hunt in Oregon. Glad you liked the film!
What a shot
That buck was a one lung and it had me worried there at the end. Very grateful I found him where I pulled off.
That’s an awesome Buck congrats on a real good season.
Thank you!
Your videos and hunts are always top notch!👊🏾🏹

Thanks for sharing, Great video!
Thank you, Kris!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Great video, I’m sure ol Wayne is very proud of you man.
Thank you! I’m proud of him for still getting it done and it’s not a forgiving hunt.
Cool buck!!!
Thank you 🙏🏽.
Awesome hunt👊
Thank you 🙏🏽
Glad you enjoyed the film! Appreciate the feedback!
How did u ever find a spot with that many deer moving in one spot that’s amazing
Just lots of time spent out hiking and I covered a lot of ground
Great job man you are a great hunter, let me know if you're ever in wa, I do guided bare hands on the Quinault indian reservation we have way too many pairs come on down and teach me how to hunt Blacktail,
Also I really like that song at the end
Thank you!
Also, I love the Quinault! I’ve run the North fork and photographed elk running through the river! It’s a beautiful area.
I may blacktail hunt WA in the future. I’ll let you know if I plan to buy a license!
Awesome buck and very well photographed on a solo hunt.
Really appreciate that. I am a better hunter than photographer but I am working hard to improve my self filming. More improvements to come! Thanks!

Thank you! DM me on Insta if you ever want to talk through your thoughts or strategy.
Nice brother, I should talk to you about where your hunting. Very nice🎯
Haha. Big timber in the mountains!
Great season! One tip, quit shaking so much! I love it! If your not a hunter on a great animal you will never understand!
oregonarcher haha! Thanks!
Awesome video, keep it up...
Thank you!
Still trying to figure out this late season archery hunting. Currently putting in the miles in Saddle Mtn unit. Haven’t seen a single deer.
I have hunted elk out there. Probably best to look for new units on Timber company land and where it transitions to thick reprod units. I have buddies who see good bucks down near the coast. Good luck!
Was it on private property? That makes a HUGE difference. It would be nice to let everyone in advance if it was because if it was i would never have watched this. just an fyi.
@@MrFishingnut71 this is not on private land, and why do you think it was?
What an awesome hunt! A bear and a big Blacktail! I’m still out there trying to get my first archery deer before the season ends.
Do there seem to be more deer up further into the cascades than down closer to the valley? Does the snow help hunting them?
Thank you! This was a pretty sweet season for sure! Typically, there are less deer up high but there is a better chance of seeing an older buck. Also, Still hunting is easier when you can see the direction and quantity of tracks. Points me in the right direction.
@@NathanEndicott_Films Thank you! Your dad tuned up my bow for me and I’ve been practicing hard. Just have to find one and get a clear shot!
@@stick__shooter He is good at that!
@@bustedmelon1840 thank you for the kind feedback! I’ll check out that spot! Always open to learn new country. Also, I’d love to see a photo of that 4x6. Are you on FB or Insta?
Good job man, I’m down here in Medford and dream of a buck like that. Right now I’m just trying to put meat in the freezer. Don’t care for horns at the moment. Do you do any guiding ?
That’s a great goal! A mature blacktail can be a good meat haul!
I do not guide but I do give general guidance if you DM me on Instagram. Medford area has great hunting and the archery season opens a week early down there in the Rogue unit.
@@NathanEndicott_Films What's the general area this is in? (not trying to steal your hunting spot, just curious) looks like a bit of madrone, probably more to the south?
Yeah buddy.
Man you have killed some beautiful black tails! You should really do a taxidermy tour of what euro/shoulder mounts you have done!! I can’t seem to find any blacktail taxidermy on UA-cam
Thank you! That’s not a bad idea! Maybe when I get a few more back then I’ll do that.
I’ve posted some on my blacktail shoulder mounts Instagram. @Nathan4you.
Are you calling any of these deer in, or just spot and stock? Amazing how many close encounters you have.
I called one buck in this year. It was the 4x3. I still hunt, or more accurately, I cover a lot of miles while trying to remain as quiet as possible while constantly scanning my line of site in hopes of seeing the deer before they see me. It works out a couple times per year and i get lucky.
@@NathanEndicott_Films what’s your choice of call for blacktails?
@@pnwexplorer5343 Primos Can call. I do not tip it but just blow on the call. You can hear me do this sometime in the middle of the film. I only do this as a second opportunity or when the buck catches my movement.
Man I blew a chip shot on a buck like that this year. So disappointed in myself. Wish I knew more about these critters. Time to improve.
That is what it's all about! Improving! Always learning and growing! Keep after it and good things will come.
Beautiful buck, great job. What part of Oregon is that?
Thank you 🙏🏽
I feel super lucky to have crossed paths with him. I hunt the cascades
Is the late season archery season for black tail?
Yeah, the OTC tag is for blacktail. There are a few late mule deer hunts in Oregon but they take a lifetime to draw.
What part of oregon you in my friend?
Willamette Valley!
Subscribe because you ALMOST TOUCH THAT SPIKE!!!!! 👍👍
Haha! Crazy right?! That’s a first time! One of those crazy times in the woods and I had a camera ready.
You feel like sharing your wealth of knowledge on how to got into so many bucks? Please lol I assume you’re calling/ rattling I won’t to learn more about blacktail deer they are so elusive.
What is not shown is that I put in a lot of miles. I do show that I’m up early and hiking to get to the deer by daylight. Basically, I put in a lot of miles to see the deer I do in a day but I spend a lot of time in spots where the deer have grouped up for the rut.
I'd love to know the age of that buck at 9:00
A few of those deer have age to them. They peak around 6 years old and I’ve taken a couple near 10 years old. The oldest being 11-1/2 back in 2014.
What are the names of calls you use?????
I do not call very often. It’s typically a last resort. I called in a small 3x4 on film but all the others were approached by still hunting. I use a Primos Can call but I don’t tip it, I blow on the call. I have some podcasts linked to my UA-cam or DM me on Instagram for more information. Do you blacktail hunt and use calls?
Nathan Endicott yes I hunt in Washington for black tails and haven't turned up anything calling
great vid nathan! hope you rendered down that bear fat!
