They smell awful and engage in a rather odorous behavior known as urine washing where they pee on their hands and feet and then wipe it everywhere to declare their territory. But then, they are pretty fragile creatures that have complex dietary and sunlight requirements, so I suspect this little guy is probably dead by now.

What I like about Thai vendors is that they cook with passion and give it their 100%, even though they know that the customer is a tourist and is there to taste their food for just one time.
Grilled dried squid is so good, the small ones get super crispy. If you grill up a large one you get a hammer and beat it and it becomes super tender and delicious

he was basically toasting those dried cuttlefish like a open toaster would, oblviously starting with almost no water content, they cook pretty fast so even with low heat he can make them. There is dried fish here in Spain that used to be a way to get fish in non coastal regions or to simply preserve the fish or octopus, but we hydrate them for cooking.

There are weekend and semi-regular markets popping up in other parts of the country that aren't as well known between them being seasonal (closed for winter) and most cities still having a reputation for not being places you want to be outside at night.
