Hi Darren, I've just got my 1st sdr radio, a small sun pro 2, it's a whole new world😊 enjoying watching your vids and finding them a good source of info...keep them coming👍
Hi Darren - Nice job with the video! I received my G2 about a week before Christmas and have been enjoying it ever since. Since the radio contains a Raspberry PI, it's a good idea to back up the OS in case you ever have problems later. The installed Pi OS contains a utility under accessories called, "SD Card Copier". You can use it to do a full backup of the system live without removing the cover. You'll need to do this in standalone mode with a kb, mouse and monitor connected. Use a blank 32GB SD card connected to one of the rear USB ports with USB to SD Card reader for the backup copy and then run the utility. I also configured the VNC server while I was there to access the Pi remotely in the future without having to reconnect kb, mouse and monitor. I apologize if you already know all this stuff, but maybe you or someone else can benefit - Enjoy the new radio!!!! - Steve W9HH
Steve, no need to apologize and thank you for the information. I will use this to make a video for other users of the G2. I'll give credits to you for giving this valuable information. 73 de N4VFR Darren
Always enjoy your videos, Darren. I've had my G2, no screen, since mid-August, and absolutely love it. I also have a 7000dle MK2, which I will not sell. I'm wanting to keep it for backup. I constructed my own PTT plug to go with my RF2K-S, and it works great, although I'd preferred the easier RCA jack. I'm not using the XLR mic input because I already had my mic audio configured for the 7000, so it was an easy swap out to stay with the smaller input. It would be fun to talk with you "on the air" sometime. Keep up the good work, and thanks. Bob NN5D
Bob, I'm using TCI so that RF2KS follows the frequency on the Anan. Good idea keeping another Anan for backup. As for audio, I'm using the SoundCraft Ui24R's ASIO drivers. Some Hams are using the Hermes Lite + as their backup. 73 de N4VFR Darren
Glad to see you are sticking with one of the best SDR radios available with true pure signal and the best software (Thetis) that is constantly being updated free of charge for us.
I got my G2 no display two days ago. XLR wont work with condenser, and dynamic has a lot of noise. It has a built in pre-amp for that, but just using via USB and Interface.
Hey Capt Darrin, I sold my 7000dle and went to the G2 as well, love it. Word to the wise, don't under any circumstances update or upgrade the Linux software in the radio, it will break the connection to the radio, don't ask me how I know... Lol. good luck and have fun, 73 Mark de K7LEN
4VFR I did not, but got a copy of the installed program that had me back up and running after the update, I now have a spare SD card tapped inside the radio that is a backup. There is a copy of the installed OS on my computer as well.
Well I hope it works well because the build is now a cheap looking box instead of the really classy 7000.. I had the same with the 8000DLE…. looked like a kitchen appliance 😏
Great Video Darren... will be joining you with a G2 in a few + months when it arrives! BTW, do you need to duplicate that SD card inside the G2? How to do that? Also, is that 3.5mm PTT port BOTH a PTT input AND and PTT output port in combination? It is labeled with a "/" but I think it is actually a "+". I will be using a DX Engineering foot switch to key down transmit. So... then.... I see on page 12 of the G2 manual that the tip of the 3.5mm is PTT input (from foot switch) and the ring of the 3.5mm PTT is the Output from the G2 to the linear amplifier. Do I have that understanding correct? I too have the RF2K-S currently in my shack... so similar gear there. I also have the FLEX TUNER GENIUS trans-match so essentially my PTT from the G2 would go first to the Tuner Genius then back from the Tuner Genius to the RF2K-S. Nice job on the video as usual Amigo! 73 Art W1SWL
Congratulations on your new purchase of the Anan G2. I went ahead and made a duplicate microSD card in case if the card were to get corrupted. I'm currently booting up my G2 via the clone microSD and taped the original inside the case of the G2. Here's my video: ua-cam.com/video/Xf83xngtiaM/v-deo.html In regards to the PTT on the G2. I'm using a 3.5mm to RCA Y adapter. One wire of the RCA is connected to the PTT Foot Pedal and the other is connected to the LP-100A or Amp PTT In. 73 Darren N4VFR
Thank you for replying. Your station looks real cool and good luck. I might trade up myself I have the 7000dle mk3. Catch you on the radio someday de n2gq,,,,
Can you do a ft8 setup video. I am having difficulties in getting the FT8 audio tx working correctly. Also I have found the fan quite noisy, I will be swapping it out for a quite one.
I'm happy with my G2 fan noise. I don't really hear it. Well, here the video on setting up with the Anan 7000dle. It should be similar to set up: ua-cam.com/video/arH6Jy96Prs/v-deo.html
I don't see any real differences. I still like my Anan 200d which is my favorite. Did you see the video I made about Dayton Hamvention 2024? See what I bought.
Hi Darren, great video as always. I received my G2 no screen model about a week ago and love the radio apart from the 'XLR' (or more correctly, balanced 1/4" socket). I've been unable to get clean audio out of that socket and I notice the Art recommends a ferrite bead on the preamp feed wire...does that fix the noise found on this input? It's very disappointing that this socket isn't function perfectly straight out of the box, as I'm sure many Hams, like me, have a high quality balanced mic they're just hoping to plug in and use. Anyhow I'd appreciate your thoughts, thanks again for the great videos. Rich MW0XDT
Hello Rich. Congratulations on the G2. My microphone mic is a Dynacaster XLR Input to Soundcraft Ui24R and goes into my computer. I have great audio and Operate at 4K most of the time.
Thanks Darren, I appreciate the info and have heard that great audio with K0MO!...I just got inside my G2 a few moments ago and guess what?...Apache Labs have fitted a rather oversized ferrite already, near to the socket....so they must be aware of the issue. I've just fitted another like you, near the preamp, but I have my doubts it'll have any effect. I may feed in like yourself via the computer...I have a couple of audio interfaces (yamaha AG06 and a Behinger X-Air 18XR) so I could feed using these. I also run Ableton Live 11 suite, so may be some processing, but dont want to introduce too much latency. All the best from Wales, UK...just thought I had to tell you about that ferrite preinstalled! 73 Rich
@@DarrenN4VFR It seems to me a long carrier on SSB, even less than a minute and 12 watts, it is enough to get it hot. So far, after three days of use, XLR i does not work with a condenser mike, Dynamic mike is very noisy, and the heat issue. Other than that, radio is working so far. Thanks.
@@DarrenN4VFR Exactly, now I hope the can fix the XLR input, to use it. I use a DAW, and some Fabfilters plug ins. No Thetis TX EQ or CFC. It adds some highs I dont want. Other than that, USB audio seems to be the best for now. The XLR input has a pre-amp, but still not working for Condensers, and in Dynamics works, but RF and noise, even with the ferrite they put on it. I got a Hermes Lite 2 to practice Thetis and SDR stuff, but now not needed as the G2 is here. Thanks for your videos. I got a lot from them such as the 43' vertical, I got one, diversity, and a lot more. Thanks once again.
There are 2 fans, One small one maybe 2 1/2 inches which you can see from the front grill and a larger one. I don't know the size, maybe 120mm or 140mm. But they are quiet. And when it starts getting hot when I'm using my amp for FT8, You can hear the fan speed ramp up. It's not annoying, but a whole lot quieter than the Mercury Lux and Mercury IIIS.

Great idea! It would probably be best if I just took the card out and clone it. But I don't know if Windows will be able to do that because it's in Linux format. But I don't know how to do it.
@@DarrenN4VFR Copy content to a folder, then copy and paste to new card. Of course, avoid Windows to scan it or deal with it such as format, etc, that will kill it. In a Linus system, then on the folders, one can be copied to another folder. Just like a file to a folder. I am assuming, major problems if corrupt card, a copy will save the time and steps to go back to fresh factory install.
My Hermes HL2 has that same noise floor most of the time on 40 & 80m. I think it is showing the noise floor across the entire band the SDR is seeing not just the frequency you are tuned to but I have not been able to confirm that.
@@DarrenN4VFR Thankyou for the reply. I am interested in the funky colours on the display to be honest, lol. I am looking at getting the G2 a bit later this year and currently I am using a Hermes Lite. I just love the colours of the spectrum display. Thanks, Ian
