  • The main engine of the ship needs to be maintained for efficient operation. The main engine lubrication system plays an essential role when it comes to marine engine efficiency and maintenance.
    This video explains different types of main engine lubrication system present on board and how the critical parts of the main engine such as main and crosshead bearings, Piston, turbocharger etc. are lubricated.
    The animation will help you understand different types of lubrication i.e. boundary, hydrodynamic, hydrostatic etc. which are applied while lubricating a 2 stroke marine engine parts.

    • @marineinsight

      As explained in the video, main bearing inlet is separate. The connecting rod is hollow and oil travels from crosshead to connecting rod bottom end bearing. One part of the telescopic pipe is moving and attached to the crosshead, the other part is hollow and have enough length to accommodate the moving pipe from which the oil supply is done.

    Hello sir, I had a question that why can't we use sump oil for cylinder as well as piston lubrication.

    • @marineinsight
      @marineinsight  4 роки тому +6

      Cylinder lubrication comes directly in contact with combustion chamber, hence more compatible oil needs to be used. For Piston cooling, usually same lube oil is used but supplied from the different system (tank, pipelines etc.) to detect leakage.

      Both are different systems.
      CW system is different, LO system is different.
      LO needs to be maintained at around 45°C as per operational requirements. Once under circulation it heats up and needs to be cooled down to 45°C for which LO cooler is employed.

    Why does cylinder oil feed rate decrease with increase in load ?

    • @marineinsight
      @marineinsight  4 роки тому +3

      The engine efficiency is achieved when running at higher load as they are designed like that. When the engine is run at low load, the fuel burning will get affected leading to more carbon deposits which need better cleaning and hence more feed rate. Once the engine is running at higher load, the combustion process will get better leading to less carbon/soot deposits which can be cleaned by oil in less quantity.

    • @gouravbose785
      @gouravbose785 4 роки тому

      Ok.....is it always true that efficiency will be lower during lower rpm ? And also tell whether the cylinder oil feed rate needs to be changed if we cut out a turbocharger given that there are 3 turbochargers but only 2 are in action ?
