I’ve been repairing drywall for ages, but never attempted using a kit like this. So I’m watching some vids to see it in action.
My son punched a hole and I’m planning to teach him to fix his damage.
I don’t want to go thru the full on way because I don’t have time and he isn’t going to pay attention to a proper lesson.
Which means I will either get irritated enough that I put another hole myself, or, as I’m expecting anyway, to have to redo it later.
But as I’m watching I can help but think that the mud should be smooshed as much as possible into the mesh on the first application so it’s not just a few mm thick scab, even after applying a couple skim coats afterwards.
(I watched a bit further and saw that it squeezed thru. Glad that was demonstrated. )
    Nice helpful video.

It works well for small drywall repairs. However, that is my preferred product to use to fill holes when I'm doing any type of molding. I fill it and leave a tiny bit of excess over the hole. Then a very quick sand a few minutes later and that's it. Ready for paint.

Very glad you did this video because I previously used a patch kit that had a metal plate and I didn't like the way it turned out. The metal mesh looks like it would be easier and looks much better. And I won't have to buy a big roll of tape to use with a piece of drywall! Thanks! 👍

If you can’t make smooth you can wet sponge , no dust and blends real well

That’s my favorite way to finish. It is perfect for the smaller repairs, and eliminates dust clean up.
A damp sponge when it’s first fully dried, makes for feathering into a painted smooth surface.

I LIGHTLY SPRAY 3 MISTS OF ACETONE ON PAD BEFORE APPLYING THE COMPOUND IN KIT= IT HELPED SPREAD OUT THE COMPOUND BEHIND THE MESHED ON OPPOSITE SIDE OF WALL: ADDED COVERAGE & ANCHORED PASTE TO DRYWALL ON OPPOSITE SIDE 😁👍🎯💥

That makes zero sense. Acetone?! Where do you guys come up with this stuff?? The acetone evaporates so quick I highly doubt it even does anything. Lmao I do drywall for work, if you came to work and said use acetone you'd get laughed out of the site.

You can buy it, and mist it with water before putting the lid back on, it'll help keep it from drying up. Same with drywall mud, I always add a little water on top when putting my lid back on. Not much, just enough to cover the mud.

Do a video with screen, for replacing screen window… I think short of having some issues making it stick would be the same outcome

Window screen?! Why though? It's triple the price of mesh tape. It's still fiberglass, but I see no real reason to use window screen. Not a good option in my opinion. As someone who does drywall a lot, I'm not carrying around window screen. A small roll of mesh tape or fibafuse is all you need.

Sand between layers and better to use larger knife on second coat…. Don’t add water and use mesh sand paper

    • @Chris.Rhodes
      @Chris.Rhodes 2 роки тому +2

Mesh sandpaper leaves scratches, so for small patches like this I don't recommend mesh sand paper unless you're using a vacuum sander. You get much better results with 180grit sanding block. The the whole "larger knife" yeah, he knows. He did a video review on the kit, the kit comes with that knife. Not a larger knife. The whole point of the video was to not buy a bunch of extra stuff for the average public. I do drywall work every other day almost, mesh sand paper is definitely not my go-to. You must not do drywall much or else you'd know mesh paper gives you poor results compared to others.

You need to do 3 coats. I can see ridges in your work and if you were to paint it, the paint would show up all of your mistakes. Do the job thoroughly and take your time. It will show every mistake you made when you paint.
