  • Join our weekly Combat Check-In Newsletter (www.combatstory.com/newsletter) to get a short email from Ryan for people who love and support our veterans, service members, and their families. It has info on a significant event in military and/or intel history, a funny military joke, an update on a current event I'm following, something I'm doing that week in my life, a book I'm reading, a look at an upcoming interview, a reflection on a past episode and more.
Today we hear a very different Combat Story from Sergey Dyadkin, a Ukrainian patriot, Special Forces and Territorial Defense Force soldier fighting in Ukraine against Russia today.
Help support Combat Story on Patreon. We have a special segement from this interview only available on our Patreon at www.patreon.com/combatstory
Sergey fought back some of the first Russian incursions into Kiev and was in the city of Schastia in eastern Ukraine just 20 miles from the Russian border when the shelling, tanks, and invasion began. He captured some of the first Russian prisoners of the war and, you’ll note in the discussion, treated them humanely, which we’ve seen is not the case for both sides in this war.
We found Sergey thanks to Ryan Hendrickson, who many will recall from two previous Combat Story episodes where Ryan described having his leg mangled by an IED only to return to combat and earn a Silver Star.
In true Ryan fashion, he voluntarily left the US and his life to help the people in Ukraine. While in Kiev, Ryan met Sergey and they connected over a shared Special Forces background. Sergey’s Special Forces operational tempo was so high that he was sent to the Territorial Defense Forces to escort humanitarian aid efforts as a break!
During his downtime, Sergey was kind enough to share the heartbreaking stories that he has experienced since Russia invaded.
I hope you enjoy this important and unique insight into the experiences of a frontline soldier fighting against Russia who, at such a young age, can differentiate between the Russian people and a Russian tyrant, who can already forgive, and who just wishes people could go back to a peaceful co-existence.
You’ll notice we’re using a translator. Sergey speaks English but I wanted him to be able to express himself more in his native language. We’ve also got Ryan Hendrickson just off-screen for most of the interview helping provide some additional context as his and Sergey’s paths are now intertwined.
During the interview, you'll hear Ryan Hendrickson refer to YWAM, the organization he's supporting in Ukraine. If you're interested, you can go to ywam.org/ to learn more.
This is one I’ll never forget and I hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Sergey, you and your brothers and sisters are warriors of the ages. May you and all others on Team UKR protecting and saving your nation know that every day your service honors the lives already lost. Books and movies will be produced about Ukraine's victory but the families and lives destroyed and lost can never be replaced.
Combat Story did it again -- secured an interview which nobody else could get and with the humility, inquisitive nuances and sensitivities no other channel possesses.

Are you kidding. It would be like kicking a hornets nest with the amount of firearms in the US. The standing military would be good to go let alone with any sort of draft or civil forces. Shit if you see how easily agitated "Amercans" where during the BL M stuff, imagine a single enemy for everyone to come together and hate on. From the city to the country you would have everything from the deer hunter to the rolling 50s to contend with...

Ryan specifically says that Russia has not treated their prisoners humanely. In the second minute of the interview.
There is not a world where a man as upstanding as him would interview war criminals.
The idea that Russia has any validity in beginning WW3 because of Nato is not logical.
They already have them as neighbors. Not to mention that Ukraine would not be necessary ground to take in order to invade Russia. Especially with technology that we now have.

This interview really hits hard. Seeing Sergey in his full kit while doing this interview really makes you realize that when we end this video we turn off UA-cam and go back to our normal lives, making dinner, watching TV and chilling with our friends and family. Sergey is also doing all this but with a AK74 strapped around him while hearing AIR RAID SIRENS in the background and Artillery explosions while also seeing destroyed buildings and blown up tanks all around him. While also not knowing when the next Russian Battalion is going to roll into his area and a fire fight is going to break out. It blows my mind that these people have to wake up every morning not knowing if today is the day the Russians decide to bomb their town and blow away their home. I know we do not want to start WW3 but I think it may be time we keep it Gangster like Russia is doing. Russia bombed a building next to the one that the UN General was having a meeting in, which is basically a big "fuck you" to the UN and the world. It may be time to poke the bear and see what happens. I hate to see innocent people get hurt but maybe it's time to hit some more Russian military targets in Russia, like Ukraine has done these past couple weeks. I'll gladly stand up and fight for Ukraine and my country if we go to war for the safety of the innocent people in Ukraine. I may go over to Ukraine soon, even with no combat experience, I can still help in many ways. Thank you for this interview!
