My mother just passed away and I had all friends and family that would have sent flowers or contributions send the money to Best Friends. My mother was a longtime contributor. When my Grandmother passed away Best Friends took her cherished Mare. My mother loved this place like family.
So very touching, I was moved by your story. How beautiful of them to take in her mare. I just recently discovered best friends and I've been moved beyond belief. I want to spend the rest of my time on earth at best friends in some way with all my heart I want to be part of it.
I would love to work with animals but I can't move to another state at this time. Maybe once I pay my car off and save money for moving. Of course, my two cats will obviously be moving too. As long as they allow all the puppy mills and backyard breeders it will never stop!!! So we never be able to save them all! We need to stop unwanted breeding! Thanks for trying!

Our rescue efforts do not extend beyond the continental U.S. Best Friends is laser focused on saving the more than 347,000 dogs and cats killed in American shelters each year with a target goal to achieve this by 2025. We realize there are many animals in need internationally, however, our outreach programs are based on the resources we have available to be effective in our ongoing commitment to end shelter killing in the states. Don't be fooled by this place. I don't think much money goes towards "saving them all". When I had to surrender two cats, they euthanized them. And don't apply for a job. You do two weeks "trial", do EVERYTHING, and you don't get hired. Just a bunch of users. And you are supposed to report if an animal needs medical care but they don't do ANYTHING. And when a friend of mine wanted to adopt, believe me, you need, literally, a note from God, so don't fall in love. They also make you, when they DO approve you, adopt TWO because they have"bonded". I'm sorry, but ONE cockatoo would have been enough! They really have people fooled and that's ashame. People like this are always in control of "saving" animals, but it doesn't feel or appear the ANIMALS really are loved and taken great care of by this type of person. Imagine animal control.

I hope to do the same here one day. The SPCA in Johannesburg isn't ideal for cats - they do try their best to shelter and find homes for dogs though.
