I could spend days and days cycling over these bridges, through the tunnels and round floating roundabouts.

@@BicycleDutch but you don't realise it travelling from a to b. That is this disconnect because you see it everywhere .

As usual, I have biking infrastructure envy so bad right now. Okay, I'll ask (lovely bridge, by the way): what is that huge plume of gray smoke that we can see when you turn around and head back?

It is one of the few remaining coal fired power plants in the Netherlands (Amercentrale). The chimney is about 2 km from the bridge.

And what is that wide gray chimney in the back?

    • @matthijspw

@@johndumpling1896 The wide one at the end of the video left of the church? That is a cooling tower of the same power plant. A lot of people associate these with nuclear power, but whenever you generate electrical power from heat(coal, nuclear, biomass), you need a way of dissipating a significant portion of that heat because of thermodynamics.
The heat turns water into steam, the steam turns a generator and then you need to turn the steam into water again to repeat the process. This cooling down is done by spraying (river) water in the bottom of the wide chimney. This water evaporates and by doing so cools down the turbine water. Out of the top you get regular clouds. The pollution comes from the narrow chimney you mentioned in the earlier post. If you look up Geertruidenberg on google maps, you can see the power plant just north-west of the village.

I'm not sure I like the chicane at the far end of the bridge.
It looks like you'll have people bumping into each other there.

Seems like one side of town wants people on mopeds to use the bridge and the other doesn't.
