14’ was a 3 headed monster with (Haymer, Taylor, Simmons) producing hit after hit. The aggression, intensity and skillset was unmatched to 23’ jukebox
23 is a bigger band, but 14 has more intensity and edge.
Unpopular Opinion but I love when SU had the Fiberbrass Tubas…they gave SU a distinct sound.
Me to
I like the look but not the sound.. they had no resonance.. the sound stopped at the dancing dolls lol
@@bookbrucekush SU tubas were still sending. They are too dark now which is not their lane. They no longer sound like SU.
@@jheht2000 I feel that too bro.. they def lost their signature sound.. you maybe onto something there.
Clear difference in the bottom sound by the tubas. But it's clear the instruments themselves had a large part to do with that.
2014 was better by far
@@user-pq1uu4io2i Naw, I like a darker sound.Plus, you can hear all the low range notes when the band is playing.
@@04WildDawg outside of the tubas the rest or the band was bett
2014 Southern sounds a lot more balanced to me even though the band is smaller. The sound is very cohesive. 2023 sounds good too but the mid and low brass is overpowering the rest of the band for sure.
They going to the National Battle of the Bands ?? I haven't seen them listed yet . .Why not have them AND Jackson I say 😅🙏🏾
They're both going
@@mocitydon9325 🔥🥳🎉🙌🏾🍾 I wanna buy my Ticket TODAY !
The released the list days ago
@@DaMaestroMadeIt SU wasn't on the list I saw, it was an article I read on Google & they wasn't on it so I asked. . 🤷🏾
2014 Southern had me hooked as a fan, and I marched in the Boom that year 😂. Now, in all seriousness, 2014 was way more balanced, and every section held their own. 2023 trumpets weren't strong at all especially compared to 2014, the mellos were a lot better as well, and the tubas lost their signature sound once they trasitioned to all brass tubas. Of course they're "louder" these days but the style they once had has been sacrificed for volume.
Biggest difference is the trumpets were deeper compared too other sections in 14
24:17 I was thinking the same thing. It feels like this may have been their Homecoming Game.
This was actually the first home game. The other band didn't come and there was a few presentations that we stopped the show for. I believe this whole show was about 17 minutes long
As other bands getting stronger they are changing, I played against them 2014 southern was on a Crescendo. They built up whole night Got stronger per song we did great but being 3 and out in 5th following orders but Brian and Taylor was going at it went against Taylor before this year prior when he was at baker gs there're going r I be a crazy battle Going foward
I’m sure suddern practice 6+ hours a day also
Both bands brought to the table what The Jukebox is known for. Stands aggressiveness and high degree of difficulty precision drills. Dolls are lovely as usual.
For me it comes down to the drill as I'm a Dr. Gregg's era Juke. 2023's drill was more impressive as Dr. Taylor's drill patterns and style of using the entire field reigns superior. Not by much tho. Good comparison.
