    There is no way I would buy a XM-18, which I believe is a fantastic knife, over the ZT0562. In fact, I purchased a 0562 just today for a fraction of the cost. Is it a XM-18? No. Is it more knife for the money? All. Day. Long. Cheers, Mates!

    Out of curiosity, Have you tried fitting the xm-18 lockbar stabilizer to the zt 0562? if so, how well does it fit?

      They are the same. Any LBS on hinderer and ZT are interchangeable.

    zt 0562 beats the real xm-18. IMO Looks way better and better materials for lower cost.

      agreed, and it is often said ZT makes a better 'hinderer' than Hinderer does. I just wish ZT had incorporated a lanyard hole/attachment point (rather than having to use the rear standoff like I am currently doing, though I have an idea about that, and am going to get a ti pocket clip made for the 0562 and use the original clip modded to act as a lanyard attachment) and added jimping to the flipper tab (like the xm-18 has) on the ZT0562CF. I am glad they didn't put the jimping around the flipper tab on the handle though (like the xm-18), that is just annoying as your finger automatically lands on it every time you fire the knife.

    Hi John, I'm late to the party again.....just found the video a couple months after reading the written review. Nicely done on both chief! I will give you a shout soon , I got tied up the last time we tried to touch base, very sorry. Keep the good info coming!

      David Marcade No problem David. Between my trying to treat my body like I'm 20 years old, preparing for dog shows, and competing in 3 gun matches, I've been a little busy too.

    I know the LBS are interchangeable, but are the LBS screws interchangeable? can I use the LBS screw from the xm on the 0562? thanks.

    Since your Hinderer XM got a steril blade it features Latrobe 20CV which is basicly the same steel as Böhler M390. Only real difference here 20CV is 1st Generation powder steel and M390 already is 3rd Generation powder steel from another company. 2nd Generation would be Carpenter 204p btw. Thought you might want to know that. ;)

    I got the 562 g10 blk on order. Do you think it would be worth to change pivot screws and parts with titanium parts.

      Donald Wortham - those components offer little in the way of functional benefit but if they addadd aesthetic enhancement for you it comes down to personal choice..

    Not sure about the innards of the knife, but thats a Gen4 blade with the rounded thumb studs.

    • @ThruMyLens100
      @ThruMyLens100  10 років тому +1

      Yes, it's a sterile (or de-badged) Gen 4, but Hinderer hasn't produced a sterile blade XM-18 in at least 2 years. They're hard to find.

    Nice comparison, I have both and love them equally. I’m just waiting on a cf scale for the Hinderer so they can be twins lol

    Nice comparisson. I may ad that the hardware on the xm-18 is precipitation hardened aircraft grade stainless. And the hardware on the 0562 is really soft "ez to strip". Still love my 0562. And really want a xm-18, I wish it had lock bar incerts.

    • @Levidanielz

      I don't know man, they aren't stripped all the way.

      Danimal Levis never had a ZT screw stripped personally, Spyderco is a whole 'nother story...

    Is the Hinderer thicker in the handle area?

    • @ThruMyLens100
      @ThruMyLens100  4 роки тому

      8252 - they are both a little on the chunky side. The XM-18 is slightly thicker. If that’s a concern for you I suggest that you check out the XM-18 Skinny. I recently did a review of a skinny sheepsfoot here on this channel

      8252 - stalk the Hinderer B/S/T group on Facebook. They are real hard to come by right now. I got very lucky finding mine.

    The ZT 0562 is Made in America. IMHO, the best option is the pick up a ZT 0562CF (Carbon Fiber... which is the one featured in this video) and replace the CF with the G10 handles from the regular ZT 0562 model. They offer better grip then the CF.

    Hey John. I happened upon your channel after losing it for awhile. I thought "you did away with" with Rick&Co. so to speak. I take it you got things patched up or maybe it was another company? Anyhow super vid. Thanks! :-) *the name is Gregg BTW

    • @ThruMyLens100
      @ThruMyLens100  10 років тому +2

      Hi Gregg,
      No...I don't particularly care for how Hinderer does business. But after looking for over a year for a knife I liked better than the 3.5" XM-18, I decided I wasn't going to cut off my nose to spite my face, and picked up another used one (no additional money for Hinderer). Now that I have the 0562CF, I may sell the XM-18 I have.

  • @Apex_grind562
    @Apex_grind562 6 років тому +1

    Why would you trade to g10? Lol look at the jimping and ergos. Carbon fiber is quality. Yes, g10 is grips better but not to the point where the knife gains a combative edge. But it's just an opinion

    • @ThruMyLens100
      @ThruMyLens100  6 років тому +1

      Gunworld74 - g10 provides more grip traction over slick carbon fiber.

    • @Apex_grind562
      @Apex_grind562 6 років тому

      A well treated carbon fiber is premium and will not be slippery . Plus, you have a flipper tab, jimping and great ergos to prevent slipping. A properly treated carbon fiber is excellent for gripping tasks. I have micarta on my xm and had no slippage.

    • @ThruMyLens100
      @ThruMyLens100  6 років тому +2

      Gunworld74 - I’ve never felt any CF scale (and I’ve owned as premium as they come) that could provide as much traction as g10. However, based on the excellent ergos of the ZT, I haven’t put a different scale on it.

    • @ThruMyLens100

      John B What pray tell is so crappy about the 0562's pivot?

    • @JohnBarrow1961
      @JohnBarrow1961 9 років тому

      I mean the hardware itself. ZT screwed up by including a pivot in which one side is not secured. It's prone to working itself loose. No captured bold head on one side or the other.

    • @JohnBarrow1961
      @JohnBarrow1961 9 років тому

      dylancast Ball bearings have nothing to do with it as far as I'm concerned. The pivot being prone to working itself loose does. Poor design by ZT, especially so since they have other models which do have the captured bolt head, the 0808 for instance. The 0801 is another example of a knife with the same pivot design as the 0562. Just a bad decision by ZT and unacceptable on a $200+ knife.

    • @TheKoukimonstar
      @TheKoukimonstar 9 років тому +3

      John B Like others have mentioned before, the pivot screw maybe a flaw, I have not had an issue with mine and one can simply buy a upgraded titanium pivot for $20 on ebay. Bottom line the 0562 is a good knife, its not perfect but it is a great knife for the money. Great review btw.

    Hinderer knives are better but I don't care. I use ZT, Cold Steel and Emerson knives. Paying over 1000 bucks for what? If he closes his products from easy access and drives prices sky high, it is his decision to make. I'm not gonna buy into the frenzy. Yes, the XM 24 and the smaller XM18 are good knives and I handled them at gun shows but thanks no thanks. Also the new Boutique steels such as M390, CPM 20CV, S45VN (and older steels like S30V), etc are junk steels for me. I don't need a knife that can get chipped or broken over a tin can. I'm gonna stick with Cold Steel and Emerson. Even ZT knives let me down. They are turning into Boutique decorative knives. If I want a small or nice knife which is not a tactical heavy duty knife, I can buy a Sebenza from Chris Reeve. I currently use the Super Commander and Z0560 as well as a cheaper Recon 1 from Cold Steel and I want to sound my disappointment with what most knife makers do. They just cater to the ego, fat cat's pocket and offer brittle steels that retain edge best of all but harder to sharpen and too brittle to put to heavy use. Let me say all this, Rich Hinderer knives are too rare and expensive to put to heavy use. Therefore, they are meaningless. I'm so angry with them that I won't pay even 800 dollars for the XM24. He should have never closed access and inflated prices for his knives. Also if his knives are so heavy duty, why not to put A2 or 3V steel on them? Why put stainless junk on them? That's what stainless still is vs a tool steel. Yes, for small pocket knives and for those who collect them, stainless is the best option most of the time but putting brittle stainless steel on heavy duty massive knives? Not a good decision!

      News Flash: XM-18’s don’t cost 1000.00. Neither do XM-24’s cost 800.00. I think XM-18’s are 425.00.
