Yes you can mount the pocketclip for the 0562 in left handed position. You just have to turn around the last barrel spacer allong with the pocketclip so the ring of the clip will fit.
I have three XM-18s in gen 4 and gen 6 and two ZT0562s both CPM 20CV. Lock up on my 0562s is just as solid as my XM-18s. Fit and finish on all are comparable and excellent.
I have the 0562 in g10 and elmax. Super knife. And so is the 0393sw. Two of my favorite zt's, especially for the money. Didn't get a Hinderer till I got the gen 6 xm-18. Definitely a hard use icon. But the one zt I think tends to be overlooked is the 0220. I couldn't stand the original because of the orange backspacer but then found the gpknives exclusive with the blue backspacer. Beautiful knife. I've owned around a dozen zt's and I contend the 0220 has the best action of any of them. I have had some zt's with the lock face issue, sent them in to Kai, and they were all fixed, which indicates there really was a problem with them. But the 0220 never had that issue. I know this comment is ten months after the video came out, but I've been going through your older videos lately, they're not dated at all. I'd love if you could review the 0220. Have you ever had one in hand? I might have to send you mine just to get your reaction.
@metalcomplex I have to know what you do for a living. I like how your knife choice discussion accurately addresses the underlying philosophies (and psychology). Your videos are awesome.
Thanks for doing a current video about something many people are thinking about. I will stay with my ZT 0562CF for now because I use it every day, and am still amazed at its quality and ergos. It is easy to disassemble and maintain. Although I have thought about the possibility of getting the Gen 6 XM-18 3", it would not replace the 0562.
I love that this xm looks almost identical to mine. Except mine is the spanto and completely working finish with matte black hardware. The monochromatic look with just a touch of contrast makes my pants a bit tight lol. I’ve had multiple 9562s, cf and ti both. Amazing knives for the price. But something about a legit xm just feels even better in hand. You can feel where your extra miner went in fit and finish. Like you always say, when I brand new scale fits on the gen 1 and 2 flawlessly, rick and his crew have this knife design totally dialed in.
Great comparisons, nice job as usual. I currently have the ZT 0562 with carbon fiber and the XM-18 with the stock blue scale in Gen 6 with the finger choil. The odd thing is, all of my other knives have serrations by choice, even my Benchmade Super Free with M4 blade. Everything you stated is pretty much what I am already trying to decide on. I'd like to keep both but really have no reason to keep both. It's s very tough decision. Each have their own minute differences that is making the decision hard. I "should" have my decision in a week or so. I plan on keeping the knife I decide on with the plain edge, don't ask my why, I😮 have no idea, lol. The other knife I just bought is my Microtech MIS in Tan, with a partially serrated blade, and frag scales. That thing is a beast, I rank it right next to my ZT 308 that I had Tim Veff add his custom serrations to.
I own neither and have had this discussion with myself plenty of times. Just the other day I had the opportunity to buy an 0562Ti for $260, but every time I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger on an 0562, I'm reminded of numerous reports of ZT's soft heat treat and lock rock issues. I don't want to pay that much for a 20CV blade that's gonna cut like S30V and not lock securely. Probably best to be patient, save up and buy a real Hinderer.
@@hgncbdfx Nah. If I wanted a knife to beat on I'd get a Cold Steel SR1. Funny how the actual hard use knives often cost hundreds of dollars less than many of the more revered ones.
My 0562 in S35VN (with a CF scale added) is just forever one of my favorite knives. I have around 100 folders and the 0562 just fits my hand in a way few do. I'd love a "real" Hinderer, but even when that happens the 0562 will have a place in my rotation.

Hey metal complex I was thinking as I saw these knives and together i want to see just to see if they fit swap scales and all and anything everything that fits on a hinderer onto the zt 0562 or any other model that fits 0393 just for shits and giggles
I'm actually "Metal Complex", but Metal Effort is a great channel too! There are no modular parts between the XM 18 and 0562, however the ZT 0392 uses official Hinderer pivot hardware, pocket clips, filler tabs, and Eklipse specific scale screws and standoffs. Also, the 0393 uses the same pivot, filler tab, and pocket clip hardware. Scales unfortunately are not modular between ZT and hinderer models because the lug stops on the frame are shaped differently, and on the 0562, there are more scale screws, and they're drilled differently. Hope that helps! **EDIT** You're right, this WOULD make a great video!!
Metal Complex yea it does I was just wanting to see if they would actually fit you answered my question and idea lol.. again so sorry about the screw up on the name I watch you a lot your one of my top 5 reviewers
The 0562 has a lot of steel in the handle where the xm18 is all titanium. The liner under that g10 side is steel. I had a magnetic phone charger get stuck to mine one day so I pulled them both out and ran a magnet all over them both. Much more steel in the zt.
Right off the bat, I like the gen 6 because my perfect knife has to have the finger cut out at the base of the blade so I can choke up on it and really bear down and pull for some extra power for cutting through tough things. Choking up gets you over the blade more and gives more leverage.
I went through that same thing with a fake and the real thing. It was a Ganzo g743 or something it looks like a spyderco stretch. I carried it for 2 or 3 days before I had to retire it. It feels dirty having something parading as something else
The hinderer aesthetics just don’t appeal to me but I’d want the real thing.. I figure that a couple hundred bucks isn’t the sand if the world if it’s what you want, and I ain’t rich. Far from it. I can also appreciate a good cheap knife.. the sanrenmu 7010 has probably spent the most time in my pocket, I love that knife! I use the hell out of it, toss it around, abuse it, sharpen it on anything lol and recommend it all the time!.. however, whenever I’d use it, I still wanted the real thing.. so I carry a crk and love it. The Sannie stays in a jacket pocket as a loaner or more abusive tasks. I’d actually bought the sanrenmu as a comparison piece when I bought my first crk.. a small micarta insingo.. it was the only one I could get locally and even tho I wasn’t really feeling the blade, I got it anyway.. ultimately I decided to sell it but my girlfriend at the literally threw it in the trash while I was at work.. ugh.. it was dirty and she did some cleaning. I still imagine finding it one day.. regardless, I still loved that sanrenmu and it immediately became my edc.. I still had spydercos and ZTs around but the sannie was just excellent. After 6-7 years, I was at my local crk retailer again and saw they had a couple new small 31s available.. I thought it over for a couple days and knew I wanted one. Went back and haven’t had any regrets. I look forward to years with this knife in my pocket.. the girls gone so it should be safe.
I have two Hinderer XM-18's, and they are OK. I just bought a ZT 0562 on Thanksgiving 2019 and saved $60 doing it. So, I bit the bullet. I also have a source for fantastic made scales for the Hinderers and the ZT in all kinds of material. Looking forward to feeling the ZT 0562 next week... :-)
I have never owned a hinder yeah but I have had several frame locks no matter what brand they are fail on me. I like the old lock back but I understand it’s not always available on some models.
If you're having that many framelocks fail on you, the issue is 100% on you. My guess is you're doing something that requires a more appropriate tool. I've been using framelocks for well over 10 years. None of them have failed on me.
You shouldn't have any issues with a Hinderer framelock, but again, if you find yourself using your knife as a prybar, or you're hammering the knife into a surface using a hammer, you should use a different tool. That type of activity (or similar) isn't good for any style of lock.
@@metal_complex some people with IQs below 100 word probably use a knife as a nail. And the instance I am talking about someone stole my KA Dash BAR1189 and I had to help my son butcher a deer. The frame logs I had were inappropriate hunting knives but what else can you use an eye for if not to butcher a deer and pry the meat from the bone?
man, watching this in 2021 hurts a little. I remember when xm-18s were relatively plentiful and I enjoyed owning and selling a few. Now I am without any Hinderer in my collection, but I want a 3" slicer again. Hopefully I'll catch one soon. In the meantime, the trusty 0562 serves well
I have owned and sold my Crks, xm18, strider sng custom. I kept one cf sebenza 21 and sold all tactical heavy use ti framelocks for cold steel ultimate hunter, ad10, ad15, and 4max. I never regret it and my tactical heavy use rotation is complete. Light use knives i prefer my sebenza, zt, spyderco knives and hogue ritter. Traditional beefy knives would be buck 110 or 112 for me.
I own both. My Hinderer is the dlt M390. Both are great knives. My at with 20 CVI my own opinion I like the Hinderer better for a multitude of reasons. That said, I carry the ZT. The Hinderer just sits as a safe queen.
The ZT is like wearing a fake Rolex, it might tell time just as well, but in your mind, it’s not a real Rolex. Dam, I guess, I am going for the XM 18. Love the knife. Thanks for the video, your knowledge and explanation of the topics are spot on.
Seems like an unfair comparison. For literally years Rolex used Zenith El Primero movements and not their own. So were Rolex owners wannabe Zenith owners? In this case I'd argue that the ZT is more like a Tudor. For those who prefer the Hinderer: the ZT is still a fine production knife but not as fine as a Hinderer.
@vincenzo4385 keep it real., a person who would make that comment doesn't even know what a Tudor is. I wear a Rolex, so I know how much sense this makes.
0562 is an amazing knife, having said that, it’s not a Gen6 xm18. With a bit of patience, you get the knife you want, with a blade shape and steel you want, in the color you want. There is a big aftermarket for xm18 scales, you can nearly get anything you want. Sure it’s more expensive, but you can essentially get a “custom” knife. The 0562 will always be just an 0562
I hope in 20 years it still can make financial sense for Americans to make knives, given the onslaught of overseas competition recently. Call me old fashioned, but I like to root for the home team.
Are you saying that it took Hinderer 6 generations to finally beat the 0562 at half the cost? I've never found the need to own a Hinderer because I own a 0562, 0560, and 0566. I like the 0562 blade shape which makes for a much better slicer and the ZT clip is more of what I'm looking for a far as deep carry. BTW I've never had lock bar issues on any of my 11 ZT's. Not saying that they don't exist just not near to the level that people are making it out to be. Here is the main issue for me. I would never think twice about carrying or using my 0562 due to it's cost or function. How much use or pocket time are your Hinerer's getting?
Barely functional thumb studs "kind of an issue" ? Can you imagine if there was what looks and feels like a flipper tab and only sort of worked as one? Everyone would lose their minds. Why is it different for thumb studs.
The hook shape of the flipper tab on XMs has been a point of frustration for a very long time. If you dig a bit, you'll find that many, many people share this thought
I still blame you lol but I got both after finding your channel. But I don’t regret it, I like them both for different reasons. I have yet to actually carry the XM-18 for a day though.
You are in the same boat I was, my friend. You want to know what got me over that hump? I had to get myself a safe queen XM, AND a user XM. It's crazy, but it got me the best of both (all) worlds.
Oh man, it'll be a while before I can afford a safe queen XM, but one day it'll be achieved. If I ever get a Chris Reeve Inkosi, I'd probably be more comfortable using the XM I already have, since the stonewash won't show wear as easily as bead-blasted Ti. BUT before all these, I need to grab me a manual Socom Elite. That thing is wicked cool.
My 0562 g10 elmax has solid lockup. But the majority of the zt's I've owned were bad. Locks failed from a spine tap, not even close to a whack. Not buying anymore. Got my first Hinderer, gen 6, and it is one rock solid knife.
I completely agree. Maybe at one point ZT made a better hinderer than hinderer. But these days are gone. With the new tri way system you cant compare them penny for penny. And the simple fact the RHK added the feature for no cost to us also speaks great amounts to who Rick is and how he wants his product and company perceived. Other points people make; theyre to think/ heavy/ cant cut. Well im not buying it to carve a portrait into a piece of wood. Im buying it to be able to not worry about it bending and breaking on me. Ive been deplyed a few times and on my most latest deployment i took a delica and my xm 3in to see if it really made a difference in cutting ability and typical everyday use. Almost instantly the delica started having wobble and losing an edge. I know its not fair to compare the two but people do complain the cm series isn’t a good slicer. Anyway, it started losing edge and general structural integrity. Broke a clip, chipped the tip and lost a screw. I lost the knife at one point but luckily i found it. My point is id rather pay the $400 once for an xm the wont flex, will keep its edge and that i will be more conscious of where it is than pay $70 3 or even just 2 times for a delica cause it breaks. I wont ciunt the losing it although with the 30plus pounds of gear i ware on patrol its nice to “feel” my 5-6 oz knife in my pocket and know its there. I have owned at least one RHK from the point i got my first one, more than a few years ago, till today and i will always own one. I have had CRK, MSK, and almost everything in between and have sold and traded off most of that but not my Hinderers. Sure im a fan boy but im not saying they are not flawed. I havent always been able to swap scales out how i wanted with out a bit of a headache, sure there FnF issues here n there and if your in the FB groups, some of the people in those groups are extremely narrow-minded and bias and straight up jackasses. However I, me, myself dont by a product because of the fan base. I buy it because its good. Thus why i have owned upwards of 10-12 Hinderers at a single time. Anyway yea Hinderers are awesome knives, get one if you’re on the fence or dont i dont care. 🤷♂️👍✌️
In reality you can make the same argument for the Kershaw Cryo 2 to the ZT0562 to the XM-18. In reality none of us NEED anything better than the cryo 2.but were knife nuts so here we are 😂. (Love my xm-18)
I need to check out the new Hinderer. As an Ohio Paramedic I was able to purchase an XM at half what they were selling on the secondary market yet I still passed them up. I handled many Hinderers but never did understand the hype and the $800 they often fetched back then. They didn't flip well. They didnt cut well. The ergos were good but Strider sng was better. But lockrock was an issue with the Striders and the blade was rather small. I settled on a plain large Sebenza 21 and a ZT 0300. I eventually sold the ZT but maintain the 0300 is one of the best hard use folders out there. But the whole 'hard use' concept is apparently lost on me. If I need something tougher than a Sebenza than I need a different tool altogether. Cheap trauma scissors do 99% of my cutting tasks. I do own a ZT 0562cf because its beautiful. But a flipper on bearings is not 'hard use' imo.
I must be a real knife nerd because I watched this entire 30:40 video with complete attention. By the way, I want the new XM-24 because it's just one big Mo-Fo. I got XL paws and handling the ZT-0562Ti is like grasping a strand of spaghetti.
ZT lockface geometry was the most overhyped nothingness ever. Even if you have fucked your knife, ZT's are flippers, the flipper tab makes it an impossibility to do anything dangerous to your hand outside of a bit of crush pain on finger flesh. The one time I saw a ZT have lock slide issues... it was solved in 10mins by re-tensioning the lock bar. No more lock slide... who would have thought that you might just get a slightly under-bent lockbar in a production item? lol I am not a ZT person anymore, fully Hinderer and Sinkevich (natural progression?)... however had over 30 ZT's of the last few years. Not one had an issue.
Anyone that’s ever said ZT makes better Hinderers have zero idea what they’re talking about. Talk to me when ZT can design and machine a framelock that doesn’t have push or lock rock
So only knives with bearings, 20cv steel, and lockbar insterts should be considered "better"?... I could make an argument or two in favor of the gen 4 XMs... Also, you do know that Rick Hinderer designed the 0562 right? It's not just his name stamped on there.
Metal Complex yes. I know he designed it. What I’m referring to is blade steel, lockbar insert, and pivot mechanism. I would think that Hinderer thought that those features are better. Otherwise why implement them? If he didn’t feel that way, he could’ve stuck to his principles like CRK. But clearly they believe that this is the way to go.
Rick doesn't consider them better. He is allowing people to have what they want. In terms of actual use applications, the knife was designed for, a pivot with bearings is not the ideal set up. 20cv steel may be better in terms of edge retention, but s35vn is tougher and easier to sharpen. The lockbar insert is great for lockface longevity, but titanium contacting steel creates a work hardening effect that may be better suited for hard use. ZT was catering to market trends... but Rick was making sure his knives would stand up to real hard use. Now with the Gen 6, everyone gets what they want. He wasn't late to the game, he was trying to make a knife that was actually meant to be used hard. The ZT 0562 is great, dont get me wrong. But there is definitely more to consider than just the premium steel, bearings, and an insert.

A fixed blade.
On the Hinderer xm 18 3” gen 4 , can I take the Teflon washer off and put PB washers on it , I’m a new Hinderer owner , great video
Yes, but not the one's from a tri way 3". You'll have to order aftermarket PB washers as far as I know. I see them on ebay often for $8-$12
Metal Complex thanks so much
0562 has better scale ergos imo.
man, watching this in 2021 hurts a little. I remember when xm-18s were relatively plentiful and I enjoyed owning and selling a few. Now I am without any Hinderer in my collection, but I want a 3" slicer again. Hopefully I'll catch one soon. In the meantime, the trusty 0562 serves well
I'm very sure they'll come back! (I'm waiting too 😉)
I really wanted a Hinderer but I'm left-handed so I bought the ZT and I love it
I have owned and sold my Crks, xm18, strider sng custom.
Is the free spinning pivot still an issue on the ZT?
I have not had that issue on my original, or any of these newer ones. Not 100% sure though.
@@metal_complex watched an older 2014 Apostle video on the "issue." probably addressed by now.
I own both. My Hinderer is the dlt M390. Both are great knives. My at with 20 CVI my own opinion I like the Hinderer better for a multitude of reasons. That said, I carry the ZT. The Hinderer just sits as a safe queen.
Where do you recommend buying an XM18
Foxrock321 monkeyedge.com will hook you up, they're good dudes! Either them or bladehq.com 👍🏼
I’ve bought a ton from BHQ
My first hinderer design were the 0560 black wash..... oooh my god whata blade!
I would say "beat" is a relative term for most people. I have an XM 18 in my edc rotation, so it gets used often, as does my 0562.
Think whatever you want. 👍
Barely functional thumb studs "kind of an issue" ? Can you imagine if there was what looks and feels like a flipper tab and only sort of worked as one? Everyone would lose their minds. Why is it different for thumb studs.
You're describing what people already think about this particular flipper tab. It isn't different for thumb studs.
@@metal_complex I'm not sure what you mean. The shape of the flipper tab that people say is sharp? Not familiar with issues with the flipper tab.
The hook shape of the flipper tab on XMs has been a point of frustration for a very long time. If you dig a bit, you'll find that many, many people share this thought
Love your videos man, true knife guy
validated my xm 18 purchase! thanks!
🤟
@@metal_complex convincing me to buy more XMs a year later, Thats Metal Complex
If I'm buying, it's 0562.
If you're buying, it's XM-18.
It didn’t come in 20cv back then. M390 then 204p.
Right. My wording was probably off. I believe the order was m390, then 204p, and finally 20cv.
I must be a real knife nerd because I watched this entire 30:40 video with complete attention. By the way, I want the new XM-24 because it's just one big Mo-Fo. I got XL paws and handling the ZT-0562Ti is like grasping a strand of spaghetti.
John Hoffman haha I just watched the whole thing too!! My current EDC is a Benchmade Contego which is leaving me wanting a
XM 24 Gen 6 !
I think the ZT is a more refined hinderer.
Have you owned a hinderer? I love mine
Tom, that might have been true in 2014 or so, but the new tri way hinderers vastly outshine the 0562 now.
Love the 0562. Never really cared for the pivot though, swapped it out with a XM-18 style pivot and I think it looks a lot better.
Damn you Sezzle... Damn you.
Both!
I've owned ZT and Hinderer. The ZT's are gone. The Hinderer stayed.
No more lock slide... who would have thought that you might just get a slightly under-bent lockbar in a production item? lol
I am not a ZT person anymore, fully Hinderer and Sinkevich (natural progression?)... however had over 30 ZT's of the last few years. Not one had an issue.
Zt 0562 is better knife, got both
Anyone that’s ever said ZT makes better Hinderers have zero idea what they’re talking about. Talk to me when ZT can design and machine a framelock that doesn’t have push or lock rock
It’s funny how it took Hinderer six generations to do what ZT did in one.
I want the real thing!
Get it. It's worth it 👍
