  • Four years ago I sat down and penned out how I wanted to show off the evolution and the technological spotlights of the traffic signal and how I thought they should be timed. I had a few of the signals but nowhere near all of them but over the next few years, that changed. I gained pieces I needed to complete the display and a controller that could run them the way I wanted. I'm nowhere near done and eventually this will be torn down and moved to a new location where the timing will be completely different but for now, this is how they are.
    Signals here range in age from 1938 to 2016.

    The first signal you showed (Crouse Hinds) has the rare "smiley" lenses. From one collector to another. Very nice indeed!

      Thanks for your compliments. I restored that signal back in 2012 and all the glass is original and in phenomenal shape.

    3:45, my most favorite PED signal ever growing up in San Diego in the 90s. Why did you not like them, those were the longest lasting and most visible ones ever.

    • @deloreanman14
      @deloreanman14  4 роки тому

      In San Diego I'd imagine they worked a bit better than up here in Portland. Mine runs much better in warmer weather but when it gets cool (below 60ºF), the man is very dim. If you saw how dim some of them were in service around these parts, you'd understand why I never liked them. It's grown on me in preservation though.

    Where did you get the leotek LED’s and how much were they??? I’m getting a new 8 inch econolite traffic light and those LED’s look fantastic

    • @deloreanman14
      @deloreanman14  4 роки тому +1

      I got them from a local Leotek distributor that has since gone out of business and they were $30 each brand new back in 2014. I'm not sure how much the new ones cost or if the optics are any different as GE and Dialight are the major players around here. Make sure you get the 80-135Vac model and not the 12V one. Also remember that unless you specify a clear lens, they will come with the tinted lens by default.
      Here's Leotek's distributor page, sorted by US state: leotek.com/traffic-transit-sales-us/

    I don't like the countdown signals. They don't last as long as people say they do. The countdown numbers always malfunction, the hand eventually dims and goes out after about 5 years.

    Hi! My son is 7 and loves your garage set up. We were able to get a pedestrian signal for him but need to put it on a stand. Where did you get the stands for your signals?

    • @deloreanman14
      @deloreanman14  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad your son enjoys my signals as much as I do. As for the stands, the poles are 1 1/2" diameter and are set into old metal office chair bases. Not sure how hard those are to come by now.

      @@deloreanman14 thanks for your response! I truly appreciate it! Where did you get the poles and how did you set them into the bases?

    • @deloreanman14
      @deloreanman14  Рік тому +1

      @@kimberlywilsonvearnon3056 You're welcome. You'll need to use a reducer as the chair bases are either a 2" or 1 3/4" diameter. Home Depot offers 1 1/2" diameter pipe, cut and threaded on request. Unfortunately I'm not sure of exactly what he used as they were put together by a friend of my dad's when I was very young. But I can say metal bases are best. I do have a plastic one and while it does work, it's not perfect.

    Very nice collection, what controller are you using to control your signals

    • @deloreanman14
      @deloreanman14  6 років тому

      Thanks! It actually runs on a controller called the M1 made by a now-defunct local signal supplier called Northwest Signal Supply. The M1 suffers from a congenital defect somewhere in the power supply that eventually fries and keeps it from booting up. This one is still going but when it inevitably fails, I've got a friend who's dying to take a look at it. I'm hoping he can fix it.

    did you have to buy the one from seattle

    • @deloreanman14
      @deloreanman14  6 років тому

      Yes. Seattle is one of the few cities that actually sells their surplus stock to the public directly. Google "Seattle Surplus" and you'll find them. The McCain is the only thing I've gotten from them but they have a huge selection of street signs, signals and other city stuff like office chairs, printers, desks, computers and more. If the city uses it, some of it will wind up there.
