    Are the paddles plastic? There's a *slap* sound that sounds like hard plastic on plastic on the attack of each tone.
    You know those silicone rubber pads you can buy to put pots on on a table? Cut out paddle shaped slices of those and glue them to a set of your paddles. The softer material should eliminate the slap and provide a better seal upon impact. Maybe increase the volume of the resulting sound.

    • @HalfHazzard
      @HalfHazzard 8 років тому +7

      Kevin Loughin it is not plastic on PVC, the plastic is mainly to provide the body of each paddle. Closed Cell Foam Rubber is glued onto the Corrugated Plastic to actually be hit against the pipe.

  • @browncoat697

    Well, the person who constructed the instrument and plays it in the video is a talented percussionist. If you know much about percussion instruments that aren't drums, you might know that marimba and xylophone (often referred to as "mallet instruments") are laid out exactly like a piano, because that design is terrifically convenient and easy to understand.
    I've been playing percussion for about ten years, and so even though I can't play piano at all, I know the layout by heart.

      Seeing he named his instrument "Rimbatubes" it's more likely he got inspiration from a marimba (or a xylophone) than a piano. But both instruments do indeed have the same layout.

    For several reasons I didn't include it, but the main reason is very complicated to explain... To sum up a long story short, I cut it for the possibility of using this higher quality studio recording to upload to iTunes while keeping the cost of copyright royalties down. However, plans changed so I recorded myself from an overhead view playing along with the track and uploaded it in celebration of the one year anniversary of the original DRS Talent show video posting instead.

  • @snubbyj
    @snubbyj  12 років тому

    I personally haven't created sheet music for my medley, but a fan of mine transcribed it and posted it on UA-cam as "PVC Instrument, DRS Talent Show Sheet Music". It's about 99% accurate, so I suggest you check it out ;-)

    I love this! Thanks for the high quality version. I was wondering how you were going to pull off the ending of "The Final Countdown" like you did in the other video. That was brilliant. I did notice one difference, at the very ending phrase of last song, some of the syncopated flourishes that you had in the original were not in this one. Doesn't detract at all from your awesome performance though. Good on ya mate!
