  • Mauricio Roberto Pochettino Trossero born 2 March 1972, is an Argentine professional football manager and former player. He was most recently the head coach of Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain.
    Pochettino played as a central defender and began his career in 1989 with Primera División club Newell's Old Boys, winning a league title and finishing as runner-up in the 1992 Copa Libertadores. In 1994, he transferred to newly-promoted La Liga club Espanyol, helping establish their top-flight status and won the 2000 Copa del Rey, their first trophy in 60 years. In 2001, he joined Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain, and had a stint with Bordeaux, before returning to Espanyol in 2004, winning another Copa del Rey in 2006. Pochettino was capped 20 times for the Argentina national team and played at the 1999 Copa América and 2002 FIFA World Cup.
    After retiring as a player, Pochettino began his managerial career at Espanyol in 2009. He left the club in 2012 after poor results and financial disputes. In 2013, he was appointed at Premier League club Southampton, leading them to an eighth-place finish that season - equalling their highest ever Premier League finish. He signed for Tottenham Hotspur in 2014 and finished as league runner-up in the 2016-17 season and UEFA Champions League finalist in 2019. He was dismissed after a string of poor results, and in 2021, joined Paris Saint-Germain, where he won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.

    Whatever your age you revere the sporting stars you watched growing up. We weren’t too fortunate with Pele as there isn’t a great deal of him captured on film and my first World Cup I watched in 1966 he was kicked to pieces by the Portuguese side. We were luckier with Maradona as we saw so much of him and can watch replays of his brilliance. In my mind Maradona had no equal as far as the G.O.A.T but I’m sure those growing up in different eras have their own opinions as well.

    Diego Maradona - #1
    Dad says he's never seen a better player than him and swear he's the best he's seen. I like to put Messi up there but more I learn about Diego, phenomenal!
    Would love to meet the genius. People need to show him bit more respect, I'd be reaching for his feet.
    Edit: oh, and poch's fav word must be 'capacity' - uses it everywhere ahaha

      Your Dad is 100% spot on. Diego is a easily the most gifted player to ever play the game. He could do everything & played in unsuccessful teams & made them successful, that’s the difference between the Messi & Ronaldo of today.

    Pochettino is a privileged ex-footballer, who knows better than anyone what it was like being Maradona's teammate in a room. So, today Diego would be proud of what Messi did with Argetina over Qatar's world cup.

      Maradona was the greatest player ever,(and I'm English!),those goals against England in "86", encapsulated maradona..the hand of God one was his street footballer,(el pibe), coming out.. pickpocket goal..the second one was pure genius,van goth had brushes to paint his canvas.. maradona had feet to paint his canvas! maradona for Mr was the greatest, better than his fellow Argentinians Messi and di Stefano..

      Diego was continually fouled, which is cheating, to stop him playing. Some of the fouls were criminal. He really played football in the most purest of form. A total genius and the greatest footballer of all time.

    I don't like Maradonna, and never rated him that high even though he was good as f at his best. He cheated(hands++), he doped and he was in general just not someone I think is worth looking up to. Now, hit me with the hate😎😎

      If you only remember a handsball when it is from Maradona and forget about all others who have cheated (like every player given the possibility basically) you are not shwoing a balanced view. When you look at all the footage of this guy from age 15 onwards it is just beyond belief how good he was.
      And it is very easy to be judgmental about a person and take one aspect and then completely paint him black. Cna you imagine how life is when from 16 yrs old (he already was topscorer in the Primera Division of Argentina in not a very good team btw) and cannot freely move on the streets. Never can enjoy life on a beach etc because people harrass you. And when you get older and move to Europe journalist photograph film you after tresspassing. He always had a huge pressure on him because the teams he played in heavily depended on you and in Napoli the sheer joy in the lives of people were the sundays you gave them? That life is extremely difficult and surely he is not the only one who has (almost) succombed to drugs just as a way to somehow get some rest. Many artists share this trait.
      it is easy to jduge, it is far more difficult to understand and actually feel sorry life in the end was not so kind for Diego. He gave the world especially those that usually did not get a lot out of life much more than he ever got in return.

    • @nickj.7876
      @nickj.7876 2 місяці тому

      @@jaysimoes3705 I hear you. All I am saying is that cheating and performance enhancing drugs ruins it for me. Also the fact he was such an a-hole lot of the time.

    • @jaysimoes3705
      @jaysimoes3705 2 місяці тому

      @@nickj.7876 How was he an asshole? He was quite the contrary: a likable guy. But no one messed with him nor his friends. Performance enhancing drugs? What? When his carreer was over? Most drugs he took were the opposite of enhancing his performance yet he did so well.
      Cheating? He made a foul. A handsball and no one saw it. Happens all the time and it is very rare for anyone to say so. And this mathc against England to Argentinians was as close to a war on the field as you could get. Anything was allowed due to the Flakland war the Argentinians did not forget. One action does not make you a cheater just as much as one lie makes you a liar. I think that is childish and shortsightened look on us humans in general and you better not make any mistake that you did not admit or you are just as bad as Diego I guess.
      Do you think that pulling a shirt of an attacker that goes to the goal but is unnoticed is also cheating? How is it different? Etc. I sense a double standard.
