    Maradona is the greatest. He played all over pitch. From deep in his own half all the way to the opposing team's goal. He carried the ball and his team forward. Amazing!

      He was a tank with a 1000 horsepower that would maneuver like a Ferrari. Football IQ off the charts.

      @@arymonem Even THAT "header" against England was an example of his quick thinking.

      @@MisAnnThorpe that header “the hand of god” was the most genius thing he had done, because it tremendously made his name a household name that no one ever forgets! Any publicity is good publicity.

      @@arymonem No, I can't agree with that. You think the handball required more footballing intelligence that the goal he scored 6 minutes later or the goal against Belgium?!

    • @arymonem
      @arymonem 3 роки тому +3

      @@MisAnnThorpe no, never said that, but the handball made a huge role in recognition. The other goal was arguably the best ever, but majority of people only know Diego based on these 2 events, thus it played a crucial role in his recognition for ALL to remember, not just HIS fans or FOOTBALL fans, but everyone. The more specific events, the better humans remember. Handball was a specific event.

    Perhaps the two goals Vs England in the world cup in 86' best showcased the contrasting sides to Maradona's personality and unquestionable genius.

      Ain´t no other player that has two goals in a (World Cup Quarterfinal) game each one with is own name and legend, as they were artpieces... probabilly they are

    Seen him play at wembley when he was 17, my kid brother and a mate, (we decided to go on the spur of the moment, you could in them days) we drove home knowing we all had just seen the greatest player in the world.

    Remember he suffered from hepatitis in BArcelona, and later Goycochea broke his ankle from behind, in 2 years.

    In his time at Napoli (1984-91), Maradona won two Serie A titles, UEFA Cup and the Italian Super Cup. A team that was, in his words, closer to the second division, had been hauled to the top of European club football. unheard of, amazin and prob will not see again, england fan, rip goat!

    i understand the comments about Maradona not reaching his potential at Barcelona but i don't agree with them, he did score 38 goals in 58 games while he was there which suggests to me he didn't struggle (and as Gerry Armstrong says "you were allowed to tackle really hard and that's how they used to stop him" [Maradona]......... as we know they eventually broke his leg).

      True say. Plus his team mates were not on his level so he had to do everything. and he used to get fouled so much when he was at Barcelona .defenders were getting away with murder every week in Spain

      He was considered a struggle because he was the most expensive player at the time and Barca didn't win the title, and scapegoat, Maradona!
