That pallet Jack hit got me, Saw that coming when he pushed the handle down. Nice work you 2.
Great job on the Propspeed application guys, we're glad you found the application video helpful!
Hardest working Nordhavn team in the West! Great work on the boat Shawn and Elizabeth; great work on the video Elizabeth. Nicely restrained (Shawn!) when the 'handle struck back', hitting you in the head... owweee!
Hmm, so that's why they paid the yard to paint the boat?
Getting laid off, classic! That was funny, Shawn is quite the Handyman!
That's sooo satisfying watching you redo everything below the waterline, almost as fun watching the pimple popping lady, I know the boat will slide through the water with a smile on her bow!
Yay... 26 yt Notifications today. Yours was first pick, of course.
Elizabeth, funny story about "muscle memory" - the feeling that you're moving when you're actually on land.
I had just went to Pt. Townsend on my friend's Peterson 42' sail boat for a wrap-around (4 days) weekend at the Port Townsend Jazz Festival - sleeping on the boat each night.
We sailed back to Shilshole, G Dock.
Heading back home to Kirkland, E-bound on 520. Police lights. Pulled over at 92nd.
The officer asked me to step out of the car. Why are you wobbling?
I just got off of a friend's yacht, and it's muscle memory... the ground was still moving.
So... NO THE BOAT IS NOT MOVING. 🙃
Muscle memory. That's all. The reverse process holds, as well. When MV FREEDOM is back in the water, your muscles will feel a little extra dose of wobble until you get your sea legs back.
Hang in there, sweetheart. This, too, shall pass. 👍
P.S. I got to sail from Mazatlan to PV for 2 weeks, 200 miles off the Coast of Mexico through The Isla Isabella.
When you do your cost breakdown you should list a separate cost for how much money Shaun saved by doing a lot of the work himself. I'm sure it would be a boatload of cash saved.
No doubt. Marine mechanic at the local dealer here in Everett starts at $150/hour.
I'm guessing, at least a 50% savings
@@malekodesouza7255 $150 an hour?!! Holy catfish that's crazy!!
Nice job on the prop speed application! Looks pretty sweet! 👍👍Back in the blue soon!!
Probably the nicest application of prop-speed I've seen.....nice work, very uniform.....almost as even as your tan.....LOL
What a ton of work and interesting as well as entertaining- Shaun’s bruising hurt just watching- Enjoy the two of you interacting getting it done 👍
What a thoroughly great video! Loved it!
Hi to the both of you..Outstanding video as always...Freedom is going to look beautiful after your stay on the hard for maintenance ..Enjoy being back in water for your next journey....see you next week...
Hi Shawn and Elizabeth, I've watched all your MV Freedom videos and one of the things I like about Freedom, is the unusual and fresh-looking green pinstripe on the water line. I know green is not generally acknowledged as being a nautical colour but, I think it makes your boat look a cut above the rest with their usual blue waterline stripes. Of course, I accept that I am completely wrong!
Yeah I thought the green boot stripe was classy…
Though gray may be “contemporary”, it may also just be “trick of the month“
Much as I like Nordhavn's I'm kinda glad I'm sticking with Sailboats for my Next Boat. Just different Headaches, but they're Headaches I'm Familiar with. New Hull designs help, with heel angles maxing at about 17 degrees, then you go faster. Interiors have come a long way too, bridging the gap with Catamarans but without that massive saloon, in which h I'd be like a Pinball stuck in a .pinball Machine. Which is fine for much younger people. Best Wishes. Bob. 👍🇬🇧🏴🇺🇲
Elizabeth you sound like my wife… “don’t like boat projects”. 😀. I truly love watching your videos, always entertaining and informative. Shaun has some great skills to be sure and he’d be a great advisor to many of us. Thanks for the time and effort to put together the content for all of us to enjoy!
I don’t know what you guys saved DIY but it had to be a lot! Good job!
Great video - thanks for all of the detail.
Strong Teamwork--Freedom's looking extra-sharp & seaworthy!!
I just subscibed after I read your story. I have been researching boats for years and for what you two are doing Nordhavn is the only choice and they are absolutely beautiful boats.
Talk about 'Starting out with a Bang'...Sorry, Shawn--that was irresistible...I've cracked my head a few times, too.
I'm not gonna lie...I laughed pretty hard when that jack handle clipped ya.
Great Job you two 👍👍👍👍.
Absolutely love your Nordhavn ,
Flip-flops on the ladders and while manhandling the fins - Best to get safety boots while you still have all your toes, they always fit better.
Elizabeth I have to admit your “oohhh” when the pallet jack arm hit his head is exactly what my wife would say…although she’d add the blasted “are you ok”? I’ve learned to not answer with swear words and “what do you think?” …lol…I know filming for YT means editing and you surely could have left that out, It is nice to see we all are human and even is Shawn is a machine working on your boat he remembers your’re filming and probably says “ i knew that would happen but I was concentrating so hard at breaking that bolt loose I forgot it would swing back”…..’my own fault, no use swearing about it.”….now back at it!…….you guys are great to share your life and doggoes with us. Thanks and onward to the magical YT 100K subs….!!!
Excellent pacing of the edit, showing enough but not boring the viewer with too much repetitive detail. Shawn is such a hard, consistent worker. I don't think you give yourself credit, Elizabeth, for the work you were doing as Shawn did major items.
Hello from Houston Tx. I just became a subscriber a couple of weeks ago. I have viewed nearly all of your previous videos. I love your boat and you guys are great. Can not wait for next week when Freedom splashes. Great Job. On to more adventures.
i have sure learned alot from you both about boats and boat maintenance thanks for all you do
Lol...I've spent weeks on the water and when I came ashore I experienced the feeling of movement. If I walked down my hallway I would bounce side to side off the walls..but if you take motion sickness pills it helps or just wait it out and your body will adjust
Nice job on the prop (s), and hull. Very difficult sleeping on board on the "hard". Best of luck.
You guys are great to tackle this work. Having worked in shipyards and construction I would strongly recommend you wear the appropriate PPE gear.
Best start to a video ever..........ah. I love to laugh at other people's pain......Reminded me of a 3 Stooges show..
We’ve all been there, we’ve al done it… Love the content, keep you the Great Work!!
Felt so bad for Shawn. I do that several times a month LOL. Y'all be safe out there.
11:22 omg the shot of her bow is beautiful
Ouch... Sheesh... Hurt my head watching him conk his head.. Those pallet jacks are tough... Done the exact same thing...
I'm at 00:50 in and IRATFLMFAO !!!
Elizabeth: "Is this where the term a hard nut to crack comes in?" !!!
13 seconds later "CRACK"!!! and I'm thinking: oh Shawn was that your head!!!?
Now on to the rest of the video. I want to see how Shawn recovers from that....
Awe, no after comment. great episode E. Well done Shawn, so much work, but now you have a great looking boat! I hope you got some pain killers for that headache! ⛵⛵⛵
you definitely couldn't get a much better boat to live on 😎
You run a tite ship. Call me crazy but I thoroughly enjoy Your maintenance videos. PS, DON'T forget to change your engine oil, I'm a fanatic about running clean engine oil, the few things that prolongs the life of your very expensive engines‼️‼️ THE black bottom is perfect‼️👍🛳⛴ Vinny 🇺🇸
I would say he would be that kind of guy that do thing when needs it
lol, replaced by a sunscreen, so funny...awesome job as always guys
How are the areas the jack stand and heal at areas that are cover painted?
After things are dry, they will typically move the jack stand and then paint that area.
When they lift the boat to go in the water they'll paint while it's in the straps.
awesome teamwork and awesome video you guys 👍👍
Nice video I’ve brought a lot of sailboats to Seaview west great crew
When you do part three and share the final costs, it would be cool to also know how much it would have cost to have the yard perform the work you guys did. I'm not sure I would have the patience that Sean has deal with stuff like the stabilizer seals (or propspeed painting) and am curious to know how much I would have to pay to get someone else to do that.
Yup, that intro made me flinch. Ouch
Great job guys. 👏I look forward to next week. I wait for your next update like waiting on the UPS truck delivery of tools:) Now its off to work I go.
Ouch I’ve hit my head on the handle before as well.
great video. maybe a hard hat next time, the "clunk" noise was impressive. Good advice on the Prop-speed video.
I’m super impressed that Shaun is taking on that BIG stabilizer job. Wow
So how does the spots get painted where the steel braces are holding up the boat
The yard will re-locate the jack stands at the end of the process, prep/paint, let dry, dunk.
@@malekodesouza7255 Nope. They get painted when the boat is in the lift straps going back in the water. Life/paint/drop in the water, it doesn't hit the stands again.
That "hall stripe" is called a "boot top", just a friendly FYI. What a beautiful boat you guys have!
Great video! Gotta love boat work! Also, shout out for the videography. The quality and content is top notch!
Great music!
Just a note: the small nut is the one that goes on first to secure the prop. I had my prop come loose as a result of securing like you guys have on Freedom. It damaged my shaft as a result. $$$$$ It’s counterintuitive but the big nut works with the small nut to keep it from coming loose. Great watching deal replacement. As it will be on my list soon.
Prop Shaft, small nut goes on first followed by large nut. Steve D'Antonio wrote a long article on this in Professional Boat Builder Magazine.
One would not think the yard would allow work to be done in flip flops.
Awesome team work.
Have you ever motored and explored Hood Canal?
Yes we enjoy the Hood Canal!
Thank you guys, back in water...
Holy smokes!!! What's the routine to get legs like that!!?? @5:58
That opening 🤣
Those are called "sea legs". I can remember standing on solid land, high and dry, and strangely swaying side to side. It is a weird sensation for sure....
The Vids where You guys do work on different boat systems are the most interesting. Travelogues are nice but not as educational. 🙂 Thanks for sharing.
I know they are pricey but you may want to consider a 3 blade Max Prop for your wing. It will make a world of difference if you ever have to rely on the get home to get you home. I speak from experience from a couple voyages on a Nordhavn 62.
Another great video! Always enjoy your music editing, Elizabeth!
Haha Shaun, DONK ! Always funny when someone gets a innocent donk, on the head. Wet myself laughing 😃
Also Elizabeth, careful with your words. @11.48 mark, with other background noises , my other half heard Shaun working his butt off, hard, 7 hours. Omg, we had to rewind a couple of times to check, it's clean though. Phew. You guys crack us up. 7hrs is good going anyway LOL 🤣🤣🤣
Very cute and funny delivery making this a very informative and enjoyable video. Thank you!
Please please please give that man an applause you did a great job I want more people to say did a great job bye
Prop speed and the underwater lighting coating is not cheap............ but works.
OUCH!!!! Another great video!
Captain Shawn is absolutely amazing !!!.
Thank you that was a great example.
Your videos are my favorites, keep them coming!
Do you guys have any cordless impact wrenches? It seems they would definitely help speed up with disassembly. I usually use hand tools for reassembly but for disassembly it sure is nice having the extra power of some of the nicer cordless impact wrenches.
do they still have to paint underneath the stands and where the blocks were?
I had the same question
Yes, when they get back on the traveler slings they will paint those missed spots.
Not that I'm surprised, but being your first time applying PropSpeed, that looked like an amazing job!
Great Team work once again!
Great work guys. I project done a few more left. Shawn, hopefully the mark the pallet Jack handle left was not that big. I had it happen to me, so I can definitely relate. Looking forward to the breakdown next week!
Glad you had great weather. A wet rainy week would have been problematic. Love how the painted prop looks against the freshly black bottomed hull!
Nice job on the boat work and the video!
great job guys 👏
15:34 outsourced to technology. 😆😆
Have you looked in to the Seakeeper gyro system? With your stabilizers it would be crazy stable. Probably over kill but would be cool...
I laughed so hard I almost blacked out,... gotta watch those killer pallet jacks🤣
I laughed when he hit his head also feeling his pain at the same time I get focused like that to
Stabilizer service is likely on our to do list this year as well. It looks doable from what you showed so maybe we can do it ourselves rather than hire it out! It is the year for an insurance survey so that would be a good time to do it. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Teresa when I was in the Navy we spent 176 days at sea without stepping on land sometimes the ocean was rough sometimes it was perfectly flat, when we got ashore in Pearl Harbor that feeling of rocking lasted us for at least two days it’s perfectly normal
Good work by hitting your head! But all kidding aside GREAT paint job!!
Nice video. I like to see what it takes to maintain a vessel like yours.
Yep, Shaun saved a couple of boat units that's for sure, well done Captain. Fair winds and following seas
I don't even own a boat and I enjoyed this video. I was thinking taking care of a 45' motorhome was a bunch. I will never again complain about working on the motorhome. Hurry up and get back in the water, I'm ready to go somewhere with ya... as a invisible guest . :)
I would like to know when you painted underneath the stands on dry dock?
It happens right before the boat goes back in the water when the boat is back in the travel lift slings. The anti foul dries quickly
Who knew that stabilizer seal replacement was a helmet wearing activity 😳
It won't be long and saying waste water will be illegal in Washington, long showers are fabulous when you're used to short ones, just practice safe showering and always wear flip flops!
Well done.
?? Why weren't the stabilizer fins finished like the props?
They’re not metal so they got regular bottom paint only.
too expensive
The most fascinating tutorial on boat maintenance
Shaun, I apologize for laughing when the pallet jack smacked you in the head.
Yeah, definitely didn't look like fun, but made for good UA-cam content!
I wonder how long the Propspeed treatment lasts under use??
Very common when having been a long time on the water is to feel the ‘land’ moving. Its all relative anyway.
I looked up from my hard boiled egg just as the pallet Jack handle smacked Sean in the grape and the first thing I thought was, “That’ll learn ya!”
Damn! I bet that hurt!!!
Yes Great Vid!!! Had my Breakfast Coffee and Cigar and it was GOOD!!!!
