Another set of fixes that I *STRONGLY* recommend are the "Critical Fixes: Unofficial AL Patch" by J.M. Pescado (hosted on ModTheSims). EA left TS2 in a semi-broken state. When it released the Ultimate Collection, the bugs were still there. This patch is almost a necessity for long-term play and if you don't want to experience game-breaking bugs and creeplying corruption issues. For example, without this patch, unplayed kids living in apartments lose grades every single day and are eventually taken by the social worker.
Yes and... no ! I played for a very long time with this collection of mods installed without even looking at what was in it. Most of the mods are indeed very important fixes for the game but many others are more related to a way of playing. And I noticed it because I had memories of interactions when I was younger, that I never saw again now and after looking for what each mod did, one by one, I was surprised for example to see that he had removed the interaction "what is it" that happens when you buy a new object, the sims reacts to this one according to its value etc (and finally I removed many of his mods like that) so yes his patches are great but first you have to check and make sure what each installed mod does!

hey, I installed The Sims Castaway but the graphics are terrible. There are some x-rays and holes in the ocean. I tried to correct it in Graphics Rules in notebook but I can't save it... I think I have Windows 11, I can only save the notebook as a "copy" somewhere else, I can't even do anything in this folder or paste this copy. I can't play like this, can anyone help?
If others are having weird, jagged artifacts flashing frequently, especially when moving the camera, like I was, going into the graphics settings and switching 'Edge Smoothing' from Less to More fixed that for me. Thank god, too, because that was really annoying.
Hello gurl , I have downloaded 5 versions of Sims 2 Installer in all over the internet ( from old games download , Mr DJ repack , etc ) but none of them works for my PC thou , I was super irritating because my PC can install Sims 3 and Sims 4 perfect like a charm but not with Sims 2 , so today I tried one more time , one more attempt to get Sims 2 work for my PC , and I tried to download from the Osab's links you sent below... and with the graphic maker rules setting , finally Sims 2 work in my PC !!! YAYYYYYY !!! I'm so happy it's finally working!!! After a ton of downloads , finally I can play Sims 2 on my PC , the happiest moment is seeing Sims 2 finally launchs instead of the square box that says Sims 2 has error , once again , thank you so much for your tutorial !
giiiiirl, Graphic Rules Maker legit saved my game, thank you for explaining it so nicely and easy to follow! I edited the sgr file, downloaded the shadow fix mod, and everything above and beyond for this game. Can comfirm as for July 24, it works, although mostly more automated. Thanks for the guide. I still the cd pack from 2005 for basic game, nightlife and pets. I haven't played this game since either 2006 or 2007. Good memories 😁
This series is such a lifesaver, bless you and thank you for explaining things in such simple terms. Even someone totally tech illiterate like me can get the sims 2 working with very few issues!
This is never mentioned anywhere but if you have a 144hz laptop with no 60hz support, you'll need an extra step. To actually play the game, you need to make a shortcut of the Sims 2 EP9 executable. Then open the properties of the shortcut and on the target line, add this in front of it: -w -r1920x1080 (this depends on the max res of your screen, mine is 1080p) It will make the game run in windowed mode within your max resolution so it's the closest thing to fullscreen you can get. You'll not be able to edit the resolution ingame or in the graphics rules file, for some reason this game hates 144hz displays and it's impossible to play unless you do this or use janky software to downclock the refresh rate of your monitor.

I grew up on Sims1 and SIms2.. SIms2 being my favorite... (I didnt like 3 and 4 as much...) When I got the Sims 2 ultimate, I was sooo excited to relive some childhood.. and i kept getting the purple flashes glitch IF i didnt crash first. Thank you! Now the ultimate edition doesn't crash anymore without warning + the game experience is enhanced. As for the resolution and shadows you can also take care of that manually by disabling shadows in-game and changing resolution into 1920x1080 in the graphic rules file but this is even easier so TYSM! 😊

Hey just wanted to say thank you so so so much I just got the sims 2 ultimate collection on my windows 11 and I was having so many issues like pink boxes, resolution, and crashing but now everything works so well because of the graphic maker!

I just finished walking through this tutorial and I'm in the "test it to make sure everything is working phase" I have no joke, been in the game less than 10 minutes, in the Pleasant household, and there was already a teen fight, Mary Sue got fired, and then caught Daniel cheating with the maid. And I had so little do do with any of it. This is the kind of grit we all miss from the Sims 4!
11:37 I've always found other's shadow problems strange, because I've always had the shadows work correctly, no black squares or anything. Although, I have seen them, e.g. in The Sims 2 on my brother's laptop, but never on either of my own. But luckily of course, there's fixes for those who need it :) .
I had read several guides back in like 2017-2019 on how to get Sims 2 to run on Windows 10 without crashing past the loading screen (I have the Ultimate Collection for context) Nothing. Freaking. Worked. I kept getting so mad that I just gave up and got the Super Collection for my MacBook (which runs really great and supports CC and mods..... but doesn't have FreeTime or Apartment Life but won't work with SimPE or HoodChecker due to the whole differing OS thing) Then last week I found out about the RPC launcher from you and some other people's Tumblr posts (yes I'm late lol) and it is such a lifesaver! I appreciate this thorough video tutorial and provided links very much as now I can play with all the packs :D (I have to scale down my monitor size bc of the tiny UI but otherwise it's working pretty well so far so I'm psyched!!)

It works like a charm on my win11 and I'm super happy! Only issue I have is whenever I open CAS sims are really bright/glowing and I can't see what I'm doing 😂 fortunately there's a cheat available ❤ I wonder if there's permanent fix for this??

Today was Day 3 of me attempting to install The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection after dozens of hours of failure. I finally ended up here, and followed the video up to and completed the Sims2RPC program. Configured it, hit save & play - and finally after 3 days the game actually launches! Tears of nostalgia started to well up. Seeing that cascading old school loading screen.... and it crashes at the loading screen :( i9-13900k, RTX 3080 Ti, 64 GB RAM, 1440p 120 Hz monitor, Windows 10. Maybe Day 4 of attempts will be the one... but I might take a week off trying as this is getting pretty stressful. I feel a step closer though, so thanks for the video.

Such a great video. My main issue (which is more personal than anything) is that the game previously ran perfectly in my laptop. All through last year I had no issues with hard crashes (only lagging and stuff), however just recently, the game randomly started crashing at points in never crashed at (the game never crashed, period) and it made me worried that my laptop may be declining or something.
So I did all the steps in Rules Maker and my game is still not full screen and the UI is massive. I dont know what ive done wrong. Recently found your video's and literally binged all your sims 2 rotation streams and now watching the first rotation playthrough you did. Scrach that worked it out, Had to change the size in the actual game

I don't know if you already made a video about it, but could you please make a video about merging custom content? Is it worth it? Are package files better for performance? What can you merge or not? 3 quick questions: Have you installed the 4gb patch? Do you delete your thumbnails prior to playing? So you use Mootilda’s Hood Checker when you download and place new lots in game? The first 2 help with memory issues., especially when playing families with large lots having way too many objects (as I am noticing with your Broke/Dreamer household). Many times we think the size of a lot is the biggest issue, but in actuality, it is the amount of objects (seen and unseen). Objects when deleted, are not always deleted entirely, and this often occurs even before buying new objects, especially if you download furnished lots (if you turn lots, because they are sideways/backwards, you will have multiple hidden objects, as well), plus there could be objects or bad cc attached to downloaded lots (even if it states that it is CC free). I also had a huge pink soup of a mess when I finally was forced to upgrade my windows version, and most of these fixes did help, but I thought since I was using clean templates, those issues would be over, but as I added CC and downloaded lots, the issues returned. So, anytime I used new mods, added lots and/or CC, I would playtest in my fresh save (as I had the latest save also on my desktop, in case of a fiery fuse of failure), if all went well, I still would save and exit again checking with Hood Checker. I realize these videos are a year back, and since I have yet to finish your Pleasantview series, you may have already fixed the issues, but I thought I would comment nonetheless to help any others, as well.

Thank you! Now the ultimate edition doesn't crash anymore without warning + the game experience is enhanced. As for the resolution and shadows you can also take care of that manually by disabling shadows in-game and changing resolution into 1920x1080 in the graphic rules file but this is even easier so TYSM! 😊

Hey just wanted to say thank you so so so much I just got the sims 2 ultimate collection on my windows 11 and I was having so many issues like pink boxes, resolution, and crashing but now everything works so well because of the graphic maker!

I just finished walking through this tutorial and I'm in the "test it to make sure everything is working phase" I have no joke, been in the game less than 10 minutes, in the Pleasant household, and there was already a teen fight, Mary Sue got fired, and then caught Daniel cheating with the maid. And I had so little do do with any of it. This is the kind of grit we all miss from the Sims 4!
11:37 I've always found other's shadow problems strange, because I've always had the shadows work correctly, no black squares or anything.
Although, I have seen them, e.g. in The Sims 2 on my brother's laptop, but never on either of my own. But luckily of course, there's fixes for those who need it :) .
I had read several guides back in like 2017-2019 on how to get Sims 2 to run on Windows 10 without crashing past the loading screen (I have the Ultimate Collection for context) Nothing. Freaking. Worked.
I kept getting so mad that I just gave up and got the Super Collection for my MacBook (which runs really great and supports CC and mods..... but doesn't have FreeTime or Apartment Life but won't work with SimPE or HoodChecker due to the whole differing OS thing)
Then last week I found out about the RPC launcher from you and some other people's Tumblr posts (yes I'm late lol) and it is such a lifesaver! I appreciate this thorough video tutorial and provided links very much as now I can play with all the packs :D (I have to scale down my monitor size bc of the tiny UI but otherwise it's working pretty well so far so I'm psyched!!)

It works like a charm on my win11 and I'm super happy! Only issue I have is whenever I open CAS sims are really bright/glowing and I can't see what I'm doing 😂 fortunately there's a cheat available ❤ I wonder if there's permanent fix for this??
There is a mod called overly bright CAS fix if you Google that for sims 2 you should find it

Today was Day 3 of me attempting to install The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection after dozens of hours of failure. I finally ended up here, and followed the video up to and completed the Sims2RPC program. Configured it, hit save & play - and finally after 3 days the game actually launches! Tears of nostalgia started to well up. Seeing that cascading old school loading screen.... and it crashes at the loading screen :( i9-13900k, RTX 3080 Ti, 64 GB RAM, 1440p 120 Hz monitor, Windows 10. Maybe Day 4 of attempts will be the one... but I might take a week off trying as this is getting pretty stressful. I feel a step closer though, so thanks for the video.
Did it work in the end? I’ve just come back to PC gaming with a capable rig and this is the first game I want to get back into.

Thank you so much for your guide! My game is finally working after some trouble making it work :) It's so annoying that we have to go over a lot of loop holes to run the Sims 2 on newer computers, I never had this trouble with the Sims 3. I hope in the future that Sims 2 will be remastered and re-released again for free, so it'll be easier! Especially cause its the 20th anniversary of the Sims 2 this year.

Such a great video. My main issue (which is more personal than anything) is that the game previously ran perfectly in my laptop. All through last year I had no issues with hard crashes (only lagging and stuff), however just recently, the game randomly started crashing at points in never crashed at (the game never crashed, period) and it made me worried that my laptop may be declining or something.
i was ready to die because i couldnt open ts2 but i did all the steps and it worked omg im so happy my wish came true

So I did all the steps in Rules Maker and my game is still not full screen and the UI is massive. I dont know what ive done wrong. Recently found your video's and literally binged all your sims 2 rotation streams and now watching the first rotation playthrough you did.

3 quick questions: Have you installed the 4gb patch? Do you delete your thumbnails prior to playing? So you use Mootilda’s Hood Checker when you download and place new lots in game? The first 2 help with memory issues., especially when playing families with large lots having way too many objects (as I am noticing with your Broke/Dreamer household). Many times we think the size of a lot is the biggest issue, but in actuality, it is the amount of objects (seen and unseen). Objects when deleted, are not always deleted entirely, and this often occurs even before buying new objects, especially if you download furnished lots (if you turn lots, because they are sideways/backwards, you will have multiple hidden objects, as well), plus there could be objects or bad cc attached to downloaded lots (even if it states that it is CC free). I also had a huge pink soup of a mess when I finally was forced to upgrade my windows version, and most of these fixes did help, but I thought since I was using clean templates, those issues would be over, but as I added CC and downloaded lots, the issues returned. So, anytime I used new mods, added lots and/or CC, I would playtest in my fresh save (as I had the latest save also on my desktop, in case of a fiery fuse of failure), if all went well, I still would save and exit again checking with Hood Checker. I realize these videos are a year back, and since I have yet to finish your Pleasantview series, you may have already fixed the issues, but I thought I would comment nonetheless to help any others, as well.
