I really like your loop videos. Something different and interesting every episode. Not just fancy marinas and bars / restaurants like some other loop videos.
The island is pronounced DUH-Fusk-E. The plaque forgot to mention the film that they made based on "The Water is Wide." It starred Jon Vought doing the role of Pat Conroy. They called the movie ""Conrack." Daufuskee is a beautiful place. I only was on the island only a few times. It was before they built the mansions and there were some of the Geeche-Gullah people still on the island but most were moving to the mainland of Beaufort County. Back then, they didn't let off-islanders on the island that much. They were direct descendants of slaves. I used to live in both Savannah and on Hilton Head Island back in my teens and twenties. Really nice video. I guess no one ever gave you grief for running the scooter on the island. We would buy fresh oysters and shrimp from some of the old men that still shrimped the sound and plucked oysters out of the marshes.
Ya just can not beat that movie. I can not even count how many times i have watched it. Thank you so much for bringing us all along. I believe this is my favorite stop so far.. I wish i could do what you do.

Thank You so much for the tour of Daufuskie Island. As soon as I saw Daufuskie in the video title, I knew you'd love it. I have been there twice. First, when vacationing on Hilton Head in 1989, with my wife, twin daughters at age 1, and their nanny, a recent college grad. We took a boat to Daufuskie at the invitation of The Melrose Club, which was a new and thriving golf country club at the time. It was sort of a timeshare pitch, but different in that they were selling memberships with fractional ownership of the entire club. I think they were selling 1500 memberships for about $75K each. We got a tour, liked it, and decided to take them up on an offer to return and spend a week there the following year at a discounted rate, of course expecting a bigger sales pitch. As we were leaving Melrose to go back to the dock to return to Hilton Head, something crazy happened. Our nanny, age 22 or 23 who was from Ohio and had never been on an airplane before coming to work for us in Massachusetts, recognized a high school classmate from Ohio, working at the gate of Melrose. She was slightly amazed, but due to not having traveled much, didn't seem to be quite as amazed as we were. She was used to always seeing people she knew, and must have thought that running into people elsewhere in the country was more common than it actually is. Fast forward a year, iin 1990 we spent a week at Melrose, choosing a family cottage rather than in the grand hotel/clubhouse area. Almost bought a membership, but decided to check out the secondary market before signing. Ended up finding some for sale for less than the developer's price, but due to distance ended up not buying. But the golf course was amazing. It was designed by Jack Nicklaus, and one of the members was Raymond Floyd. The oceanside finishing holes were outstanding, pretty comparable to Pebble Beach. We didn't tour the island, just the Melrose part of it, and I played golf a couple of days. Haig Point also had another golf course, so there were 2 major golf courses on the island. Melrose ran their own little ferry operation from Hilton Head, both to shuttle employees and members, and to impress folks they were giving a sales pitch to. Very nice boat. In a way it's a shame the Melrose Club struggled financially, went belly up, and who knows what its status is now, maybe making a small comeback. You're right that anyone who built a private home there, rather than just being a member staying in the hotel/cottages, had to have a lot of money. But in a way, maybe it's better that it did fail, so that the island with such character and history, didn't just become a golf destination for folks with money. Probably there was room for both things to coexist, but I'm not heartbroken that a golf course I loved and almost became a 1/1500 owner of, didn't become a Disney-like eyesore to the locals, even if it was gorgeous in its own way.
Brenton: My wife and I happened upon your channel last winter and we've become big fans. But whoever wrote and recorded your "Irish flavored" theme song is just wonderful. There used to be a courtesy dock in Georgetown SC, Oriental NC has a 24 hr courtesy dock, just before the Dismal Swamp canal in Elizabeth City NC and just before Great Bridge VA there's a courtesy dock with provisions in walking distance. There's a popular anchorage, just the other side of Tide Water Marine in Norfolk Va.
