I've put this side-by-side with a sE V7 and found them to fit pretty a similar "condenser-like" niche. YMMV on which you prefer, but I need four to six microphones at any given time and the V7 is a little nicer at the top end (it's good for spoken word) while being $150 cheaper. And it's a little silly, but the flat-edged basket ring keeps the microphone from rolling better than the flattened edges on the microphone body.
@@JaredSchumaier Depends on the voice. My voice is lower and a little more bass-heavy so I kinda like the V7 for me. I don't feel like it's a huge difference though (and as time has gone on I've kinda noticed less significant differences between stick dynamics in general). And, not for nothing, but in the environments where I shoot, the V7 looks better. ;)
How does this compare to the electrovoice N/D 767a as far high end sensitivity? The EV is what I use cuz it really cuts thru, but I keep breaking them cuz they're cheaply built. I know the M80 is more sturdy, but I need something the really cuts thru.
I just received my M80 and wanted to ask if you know what the small loose circular piece of course of foam is inside the basket? Thanks for good comparison. I’m a bit confused with how to assign mic for vocalists, since either way you will end up tweaking eq. For example, I understand that M81 has more boost on high freq, so is this the best mic for high tenor voices guys like Journey, Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake etc? To “boost” of their highs even more,m then tame by post eq? or is it best to rather go with M80, to “tame” their highs and just boost in post eq if needed?
