Shackleton was a beast. One of the most legendary survival stories on record. They survived over a year on the ice before the endurance sank, then finally made their way to elephant island on life boats where they spent another year eating penguin. Then Shackleton and five other crew took an amazingly brave trip 700nm, practically using dead reckoning, to South Georgia Island. They landed on the wrong side of the island from the whaling station at Stromness. They had to hike across glaciers scaling crevices and ravines and jagged cliffs. When they arrived at Stromness, Shackleton then was able to eventually go back to elephant island on a ship to save the rest of the crew. Not a single life lost.

I cannot explain how insane it is that they found the endurance. I’ve been hearing about this ship and the trek the crew had to make for YEARS, it was such an incredible feat of human perseverance that I was fascinated with the story but I never thought the ship would actually be found. When I heard the news I was blown away, it was like the headline said that mermaids were real. That’s how much this ship had been mystified. Please look into the story it’s insane
