I live in João Pessoa, here it starts to dawn at 4 am. And it's the only place in Brazil where cars literally STOP if someone steps into the crosswalk But João Pessoa is starting to fill up, last year João Pessoa was the most immigrated state in Brazil, everyone is coming here
A Cidade Gramado também tem isso, os motoristas param o carro para as pessoas atravessarem a rua. (E se não me engano em mais lugares no Sul do país os motoristas fazem isso também).

I went to João Pessoa with all my college coleagues in 1999 and is Was AWESOME. It took us 3 days by a rent bus, we were drunk most of the trip... lol It was a crazy roadtrip party. We did a dive there and the water is really clean. The vegetation looks like some caribbean stuff. Keep in mind that Brazil is bigger then europe, so it is hard to go from south to northeast by bus.

I'm a Brazilian living in Australia for almost 8 years. I'm from São Paulo and my favourite place in Brazil is João Pessoa. I've been there 8 times and I never get sick of it.
My last Holiday I decided to spend in Brazil and stayed 8 days in João Pessoa before I went to São Paulo to see my family.
João Pessoa is incredible. People are welcoming, absolutely supportive and the landscape is just mind blowing! Please, visit Brazil and stay a week in João Pessoa. You will never regret.

Last year during the annular eclipse in October, João Pessoa was one of the cities that was in the middle of the 100% coverage area

northern brasilian here, went to JP to the brasilian anthropology reunion in 2016, great place, we stopped at Jijóca to get into the desert trucks to reach Jericoacoara, unreal sunrise indeed, i remember i was high af on the top of a giant dune, like it's a frekin flooded desert, so wholesome
If you like historical structures, react to Diamantina or Ouro Preto, both cities in Minas Gerais that are almost the same way they were hundreds of years ago! It's amazing!

1) you mentioned the trees and vegetation...João Pessoa was once considered the second greenest capital in the world, second only to Paris.
2) João Pessoa is the third oldest city in Brazil (Salvador and Rio de Janeiro are first and second respectively);

I was never able to wake up early to check the sunrise when I visited João Pessoa, but I was able to watch the sunset.

7:40 this building is "Estação Cabo Branco" and the cool thing about it is that it was projected by Oscar Niemeyer, the same famous Brazilian architect who designed Brasilia's governmental/civical buildings.
(yes, this guy's work is everywhere in Brazil. not only was he one of the most important modernist archictects in the world (he even co-designed the UN headquarters in NYC) but also he lived until he was 104 and he kept working as an architect until he passed away in 2012.)
as you said, this particular building is used for cultural purposes. like art, history and science exhibitions of any kind.

JP is one of the few big cities worth visiting in Northeastern Brazil. Lots of trees, chill, beautiful beaches. It is hot as hell and airport is far. They have popular nude beaches 😂

I recommend you check out Curitiba, the city where I live, it's unlike anything else.
My parents are moving to João Pessoa, because comparing to other capital cities from northeast, João Pessoa is the least expensive and the most safe. João Pessoa is known as a "retirement city", it's common that retired elders go there to enjoy beach, good weather and calm life.

It is one of the 3 capitals in Brazil that happen to be an island. It only has 350.000 people, but it has one of the best HDI`s in Brazil. On the north coast of SP there are many beautiful beaches, which are surrounded by the Atlantic Forest, Ubatuba and Ilha Bela for example.
