Those saying “the apaches would be shot down” are misinformed. The video specifically states that they are littoral threats (i.e. Missile boats) which tend to have no anti-air armament besides their main gun and maybe a CIWS

plausible since its night time. with no air search those molniyas are easy meat. however completely different in day time. given elevation and bearing cues through visual, paased to FCR the choppers are dead. unless they took cover below horizon real low

And those ships (nanuchka class) would be left completely defenseless against air threats and not protected by even one ship with anti air capabilities?

    • @xyz-hj6ul
      @xyz-hj6ul 2 роки тому

      Hunhhh?
Those Nanuchka have Pop Group dual radar/EO command guidance systems forward of the bridge with X20 SA-N-4 in a turret under the circular spot on the foredeck (RMin 2nm, RMax 9nm), there is a Bass Tilt and some kind of AK-630 or AK-176 on the backend. Outside of the Styxx or Siren AShM launchers, all's they have are AAW self defense systems.
The implication being that the Hellfire have more than a 9nm range overmatch which is....Naaah. AGM-179 maybe.

yeah that part felt off for me too.
A hellfire has pretty meh payload, sinking a Nanchuka with a couple of them is a solid maybe at best. Tbh, it's more of a LRASM job... or airlaunched Harpoon, I guess.

    - Impressive simulations - of 'perfect outcomes'. The reality is, the 'enemy' (like Lockheed) has 'surprises' which is sure to lead to confusions and mistakes - and risk of escalate to nuclear war.
    - Instead of spending money on Lockheed Martin, or Sikorski etc. let's instead spend it on far better things like ultra-fast broadband globally, medical instrumentation and accommodation and staff, solar farms to prepare for the oil shocks when petroleum supplies run down in the next few years, agricultural equipment & research, school computers, residential homes, etc.
    - The trouble with Lockheed Martin is that 'threat' and war is commercially 'in its top interests' for business expansion and profits.

      - War is widely seen as 'exciting' and 'fun'. It's invariably perceived from the optimistic 'overpowering winner' viewpoint, the sending end of the weapons.
      - The trouble is, preparing for war increases tensions that 'accidentally' (by misunderstandings) or deliberately (irresistible opportunism) cause war. War is a vanity that wastes resources better used for health, education, homes etc. We're far better off using social networking globally to dismiss the infrastructure and attitudes of war, in favour of a bountiful prosperity available from the same money.

The depicted scenario is not visually realistic, but the unrealistic depiction is only helping visualize an actually plausible (realistic) scenario. The helos would in reality be miles away just under the horizon.
Those are corvettes, they don't have long range anti aircraft systems. The Apaches could get close enough, not in the way depicted in the video for visualization purposes. But they could get close enough to attack them from just outside of their powerful short-range defenses' range.

@@kaana8421 those are missile boats/corvettes, they'd have ciws but kashtan would take up alot of space due to its under deck ammo compartment which is not ideal for their size, and these boats are designed to be cheap and nasty so the best they'd get are guns or iglas but irl wise they'd be outranged by the apaches engaging them and they cant do nothing about it, its just that its depicted here to be closer for people to easily understand whats happening but that type of engagement would have the apache barely over the horizon even when firing its missiles.

The littoral ship attack was idealistic and unrealistic .
The ships would have air cover and would have picked up the helicopters shot them down long before the AH-64 was In range of firing on the ships . Plus there were no tow tugs towing the Russian ships.
The Virginia Class would have been given the task when the ships were picked up when they left the Russian naval base . Overall ok
But war would be far more destructive and messy .

The Apaches would be firing those Hellfire missiles from 5 miles away while low on the horizon. That's about same range as a 76 mm gun so it's a toss up if the Apaches would be used in that case. F-18s or F-35s dropping smart munitions from 12 miles out would be a better solution.
In any case, the US and allied forces would probably have the better intel and radar picture of the battle space giving them a major edge in the fight.

In any case, US and allied forces missed whole Russian 58th army on its way to the Georgia and whole Russian expeditionary landing forces in Crimea. They noticed them only when it was too late to change something or even simply infrom Tbilisi and Kyiv.
In the same time, during the crisis in Syria, Russian long-range radars detected from the range of two thousands miles two small tactical missiles launched during cooperative military drills of US and Israel.
