In this video I'm making a hanging planter for my house. The wood species is walnut and the finish is a boiled linseed oil. I use my Oliver bandsaw to rough out the shape of the bowl, then fine tune the curve using spokeshaves and sandpaper. The interior of the bowl is cut out using a power carving disc on my angle grinder. Follow the link to my Amazon store to purchase the carving disc.

I'm trying out a new format with the voice overs. I still want to keep my typical style of mostly just the me working but I think the voice overs help the video flow better and hopefully are informative. Let me know what you think!
Loved the new format, fun video! Hope you and your family are doing well!
This format is perfect! No stopping mid work, and for my dyslexic self I don't have to strain to read the CC in time before it moves on. Keep up the great work!
Love this format way better
The format works fine. You do a great job explaining the process.
A much more enjoyable format. Top job btw. Watch out for a wet floor when you water the plant tho
"Your turn!" "Bye". Your daughter is so precious. The planter came out great. I have some Red Cedar blocks from a tree I had to take down. They are about 3 years old and now I am thinking I may try something like this. Thanks Andy!
Your daughter is precious. Carry on, man.
I like the voice over, definitely better than subtitles.
your daughter is awesome, im glad you two have such a great connection, really cool work, ive never seen this done without a lathe.
Your daughter is so cute. Sometimes my kids come over to the shop to, but most of the time their living with their mom. Awsome build and i like the texture on the bottom. Te contrast between the lines and the rest of the bowl is awsome.
Yeah I love having my kids in the shop...start them early right!!
@@AndyRawls You are right! Beter than hanging in front of the TV
Love the new voice over over closed captions! Also love the fact your teaching your daughter what you do, without passing our knowledge on to the next generation, the knowledge dies with us.
also have you ever thought about making a patreon? I think that might be something that a lot of people would love to support you with
Too cute Daddy! She is an awesome helper!
Awesome work Andy!
Planter turned out beautiful, that wood glowed with that finish. I liked the new voice over format, very informative without being boring or overly detailed.
Turned out great! Well I guess it wasn't turned but it ended up great. I found out the hard way with a recently hung planter that you have to be careful with soil contact on those jute ropes. We had one that ended up decomposing away fairly quickly and found it dangling sideways by 2 of the rops. So while the rope looks way better we are switching it up to a paracord here once I get around to it.
Thanks for the heads up! I was a little worried about that...will have to keep an eye on it.
Great video all around!
Incredible skills and patience.
I would not want to attempt something like this in a million years. I would lose my mind.
I have a very similar Oliver bandsaw and I love the table tilt mechanism
Me too. I have the 36" Oliver 416D and the table tilt is effortless
That looks beautiful! I really like the texture on the base.
The planter turned out very nice. Thanks for sharing.
I really like the texture on the bottom. I would never have thought to do that
Great work as usual Andy! I can't wait till my kids are old enough to help me out. Those moments are awesome!
oh my God you daughter makes me belive in Angels again.. she is a doll.. The stuff you do amazes me.
Your content has improved so much with voice over
I like walnut
Andy keep up the great work
Best youtuber
Great video as always Andy!
hi andy, your really good at wood working, keep up the good work
That is a beautiful piece! I also really like the voice over format!
Looks great brother.
روعه عاشت ايدك على هذا الفن الجميل
love your videos always love the voiceover and please include more of your personality/the fun you have like you did this time!
loved the "nice catch" and when your daughter helped out, she's adorable and so sweet! also, id love to see videos about you working with plants if you ever feel thats content you would be interested in making
Love all the posts weather live or a voice over. Your hand work is always great to see for sure. Nice catch, LOL.
Very cool planter :) I like the fern as well :D
Nice planter. Since I don't have a lathe either (and no plans to buy one), I now have a new inspiration. How soon before your daughter has her own channel?
Loved the video and ideas!!
Digging the voice-over as well!!
Keep kicking butt Brother!
You should get a thing called a Tornador for your air compressor. It’s got a ball baring in the tip to make the air come out a lot faster and wider spray, it’s get for getting rid of mess off the floor like you were after carving
love your videos, love your talent, love this channel
Really love it. I guess It took you some hours to make this bowl. Thanks 👍
I like it. But how will you put water in it without it running to the floor?
He's already got it tied to the ceiling, I doubt it'll run far.
take it outside and water it there
I really like that, man. I have a lathe, and use it frequently, but I love that textured bottom. Nice job!
Thanks William! Always great to hear your opinion.
@@AndyRawls For sure man! If I've ever in Texas or you're ever in VA we should work on something together. Heck, maybe we should just meet in Michigan and let Chris take us fishing when he finishes that boat of his!
Andy you should get a lathe man it’s awesome but you do awesome work beautiful daughter
I definitely need a lathe...this would be so much easier!!!
Andy Rawls I bought a mini lathe threw Home Depot 8” by 12” only can turn 8” or less but now I want a bigger lathe but for you I would go with a big one
I want to see more daddy/daughter builds!! Make a woodworker out of that girl 💪🏼
@5:42 Wonderful!
I liked the subtitles a bit more because it gave a more simplistic feel.
Like the format. Great video. You need to get a lathe.. Maybe a vintage one in need of restoration:)
It looks really awesome! Nice work dude!
+
Не, ну классно, внатуре чётко!😉
Can you do a video on the tools you use
Also I'm super good with the voice over, it's to bad you tube did t have a narration option for videos like yours, where you can choose to have voice overs off or on as a separate track
Have you ever used butternut(white walnut)? I don't know that I have ever seen it before but I love using walnut and my arborist father in law told me about butternut.
"Your turn" !
U are always amazing~:-)
Good job but dirty sand, thanks to share.
I am very curious about how long it took to carve out the inside! Thanks!
Good video of your production, but I’m thinking thats one very heavy hanging planter once watered....and it looks like you have a drainage hole that drips to ground.? Good drainage important for plants....I’m guessing you will need to modify a few things along the way. Ps - get urself a lathe. They are just great to use! And be creative with wood.
I would kill to get some of those scraps for my jewelry work. Makes me cry knowing stuff like that gets tossed or burned.
Hey Andy how about building a tree swing for your kids I just built one for mine and would love to see your rendition
Beautiful work I never noticed you don't own a lathe. Do you plan on getting one or just haven't had the need for one ?
What happened to the old jet lathe. I remember you had to spin the piece to start the lathe up. Did she just stop choochen?
He planted it without his daughter lmao
Why not use a large forstner bit to remove a bunch of that wood inside, it could also act as a depth guide.
Have you ever considered wood turning? Like Burls and other sorts of wood?
Is There a way to buy the skirt you are wearing? I could not find it in Your Shop:( thanks:)
What type of band saw is that?
Don't have an adze?
That is one scary azz bandsaw. lol, One wrong move and you have a clone.
what size is that pfiel gouge?
I know you an expert but the initial cutting on the bandsaw made me more nervous than usual
Столько заморочек... Проще на токарном станке выточить. Тем более видно, что автор не испытывает недостатка в оборудовании. Да и во времени тоже, похоже, недостатка нет...
Proč jsto nedal do soustruhu?
Clearly you're an extremely talented man but why not just use a lathe?
*watches Andy be a super cute dad...all the women viewers immediately get pregnant.
This turned out AMAZING. Great job as usual!
👍💯💯👏👏👏
U DON HAVE A LATHE WTF I LEGIT SAW ONE IN PREVIOUS VIDS
8:33 I blew on my screen
A really good vid Andy but i perfer that you dont talk :D
Why did you boy pre drill to save grind time
Wiste of his time and my time
Next time make a rifle ,fake one just for fan....
