Love how they incorporate the natural stone into this build. It adds another layer and texture to this fascinating building, along with the interior design, and outer use of space. Beautiful..
This film gives you such a beautiful understanding of Manuel's home, how he lives there and as someone who hasn't been to Lisbon, the broader context of the city. I love his perspective on the garden being a central room in the house.
What a captivating journey through Architect Manuel Aires Mateus' own home in the heart of Lisbon. It provides a unique insight into the architect's thought process, and it's inspiring to witness the transformation of a neglected space into a cherished home.
My dream realised with stone pavers on the floor and to chair seat height along the lower portion of the walls, wash everything down. A beautiful adaptation for the cistern too! Brilliant.
Such a special project. The commitment to preserving the historical essence of the 18th-century building while creating a space that evolves with the needs of his family is truly commendable!
The house is fantastic and the production outstanding. However, please move to a format that is closer to a house tour. We are only getting small takes of different areas and it is not possible to understand the distribution and functionality of the spaces without seeing how they’re connected. A wasted opportunity.
I love that this video takes you on a captivating tour, seamlessly blending modernity with historical charm in an 18th-century building, showcasing a delightful exploration of architectural ingenuity and timeless design.
Oh wow, discovering that cistern must habe been quite a moment. What a beautiful integration into the outside space with the round glass element. And the stairs, so visually playful and well done. Thanks for sharing this one.
Cuantos sentimientos querido manuel !!!!! La oportunidad de estar alli compartiendo contigo un momento.....sensibilidad pura, emociones que envuelven. Bella la nota !!!!!
You can tell this is an architects house. Nothing looks like it normally does in a home, and the interior is a concept instead of a comfortable space to live in.
Such an inspiring design aesthetic! The use of natural building materials in this house will ensure natural vibes and energy efficiency! The well at the back of the house is a common practice in old Indian houses. Since this is an 18th-century house, must be inspired by the Portuguese colony in Goa. The well can be regularly cleaned and used to collect rainwater(also called rainwater harvesting). It is connected to the water supply in our homes, so we save on water bills from the government :)
Stunning design by Aires Manuel Mateus. Winter can be mild in Portugal, with temps climbing during the day. However extra rugs would definitely be called on winter nights… floors and covers! Stay tuned, team estliving.com
I was recently in Lisbon for the second time and shocked at the condition of buildings, even in the center. Some of them have stores on the ground level and trees growing out of the top level !! I came across one house in rubble with all the blue ajulos mixed in the rubble ! Another street had a gorgeous old chateau with the terraces lined in ajulos scenes, abandonned and probably up for demolition. The first time I visited Lisbon some years back THREE old buildings burnt and a neighbour told me that as the governement would allow the owners to do them up as they wanted, they often burnt them for insurance, then they could do what they wanted. The building right next door to the famous Hermes store was a ruin with plants growing out of it but it has been restored since then. The Lisboans told me that they all dream of living in modern homes with nothing old and fussy, easy to clean. I lived for a few years in Sao Paulo and it was the same. I lived in an old Victorian house and our friends hated it as it was old. I furnished it with antiques bought for little money but there was a huge store making 'antiques' for huge prices and they actually preferred them !!
Thank you for sharing this insight, fascinating to hear. Design is so subjective. We adore the Portuguese architecture. Enjoy the full film. Best, estliving.com
In Brazil , as a style for residence , we only understand Modernism. That's what people understand for ancient Architecture. Higienópolis for instance, is all modernist. We forget artdeco buildings, neoclassical, etc. Pity. Fifty years ago, in Rio de Janeiro, a neoclassical palace , all in marble, , was pulled down for the flowing of the Traffic . 😢
Yes, I used to live in Sao Paulo and the big Avenida du Brasil was lined in gorgeous mansions and one had just been demolished to make a car park ! Another was on it's way out. When looking for a house we visited an amazing deco mansion, huge, many bedrooms and outbuildings left empty for years. I took my Brazilian assistant to a museum and she cried, she had never been in one in her life. Another sculpture museum, an amazing building was empty of sculptures but they still sold us a ticket. I lived in Villa Nova Conceicao and one day I saw workmen cutting a gorgeous antique stair bannister, wrought iron and gilding, into pieces to get it into the dumpter ! Every day I was saddened by the neglect and destruction. A friend admired some grey tables covered in raw linen until I told him they were 5 RS each and I had restored them, they were suddenly not so chic ! Brazil is an incredible country but it left me with a terrible impression. @@antoniocarlosrodriguescamp1497
that art piece @4:21 with human like hair falling out of the hole is interesting. It s a bit creepy but also very rick owens haha. Great channel, great productions - so glad I found you guys

I love calm and minimalist interiors and the commitment to history in the interior. But I really don't like the gallery like aesthetic for places people live. If you invest so much in architecture, it's visually disproportionate when equal thought isn't invested in furniture or the ability to LIVE in a space. I don't relish a washing machine, a range cooker visually, or even a sofa necessarily. But they ARE functional aspects of 21st century living. They needn't be ugly or distracting, but it is distracting when they don't exist. Functionalism in design shouldn't stop after the architect leaves...
How disgusting and completely void of life, every part of it looks unfinished. And he calls himself an 'architect'. No wonder modern buildings are so hideous
Manuel is one of the few masters of architecture still alive. Excellent portrayal of his own house. This video excels in every way. Perfecto!
Absolutely a privilege to film. Thank you and stay tuned team estliving.com

That's what the print is for
Yes I wanted to have a nose around in the bedrooms and bathrooms. It could be a privacy thing? Fair enough.
@@est_livingI feel it could be a mix of a tour and these individual shots. Fully switching into a tour mode is going to take away from the magic
Its a video essay not a house tour like that for real estate
I love that this video takes you on a captivating tour, seamlessly blending modernity with historical charm in an 18th-century building, showcasing a delightful exploration of architectural ingenuity and timeless design.

What’s the architect’s name? Would love to see more.. of this home and other projects!
do you know the artist of that drawing at the 40 second mark? thanks
very poetic approach to a be beautiful home. would love to see a more pragmatic take of the space, it a little bit too impressionist.
Noted!
Looks a lot like a house i saw more than a decade ago in the magazine architecture and design... Maybe the same?

Great, another uninspired, empty, monochromatic space that is the rustic counterpart to Patrick Bateman's urban apartment aesthetic.
Don't watch if you don't like it! Why insult other people that like it keep your plain uninspiring comments to yourself!
How disgusting and completely void of life, every part of it looks unfinished. And he calls himself an 'architect'. No wonder modern buildings are so hideous
Do this people really think they have something special?
