I think they took learnings from sl series how they lost the series there they came up with some good strategy n it gave good results... But ind were overwhelmed over win against Bangladesh.. When you look at the Sri Lankan series, it really was not the thrashing it might appear if you just read 2-0. NZ really should have won the first test. They had a big collapse in the batting in the 2nd, and so that is what sticks in the mind, but it should have been 1-1.
