    23:15 Completely agree with your thermal paste experience. 👍

  • @johnbos4637
    @johnbos4637 3 роки тому +6

    Soron, you are the 2nd person who knows how to put thermal paste on. I always do the same thing with thermal paste and apply a thin even layer across the entire surface of the chip. Then I know for sure that the heatsink will be fully touching everywhere.

      @@XLR8RRICKyour clueless on running repair business. He cleans that and something happens it would be on him. Unless being paid and agreed to you never start cleaning a customer’s device. Some customers even will say you scratched the device but in reality the scratches were there but covered up by the dirt / dust. This happens all the time until you learn to do just what your paid for.

    hi Sorin, thanks for another great video. A possible question to 'why open it' might be the lack of options some manufacturers provide for upgrading and tweaking. Many Asus BIOSes are locked, cannot be undervolted for example, or perhaps other options were missing for people to boot other OSes. And it's fun :).

  • @Dmiliunas
    @Dmiliunas 3 роки тому +3

    My guess: some one tried disconect fan with some kind of tool, like plyers or scissors, applied to much force clipped the chip and took it out. maybe.

    • @memorywarrior8752
      @memorywarrior8752 3 роки тому

      Hmmm, just unusual how all eight pads and tracks wouldn't come off in that case. When I saw it I thought possibly they heated the chip with the heat gun, and lifted it off when the solder was not melted on the three pins. Hard to know really.

    • @DabblelyDiddly
      @DabblelyDiddly 3 роки тому

      @@memorywarrior8752 Most likely this. They didn't heat it right because they tried to do it without removing the heatsink. Thus limiting their access to apply heat.

    22:32 wow I'm impressed that you use one of the best thermal paste.
    I thought that you leave this motherboard without new paste, or you use very poor quality, cheap one.

    • @fcallum77
      @fcallum77 3 роки тому

      When I'm doing repairs, certain jobs require certain pastes. If it's a desktop, the TDP of the heatsink is usually higher than what the CPU outputs so I use cheap AliExpress thermal paste. For most laptops the same paste also applies. After all, the manufacturer default paste is cheap rubbish, my paste is slightly less cheap rubbish. For nicer laptops such as this one, machines repaired for friends or computers with crappy heatsinks, I use Arctic MX2 as I've found it's almost exactly the same as MX4 but costs considerably less.
      I imagine Sorin and a lot of other repair people use similar practices. Why use pricey paste on every job when most people don't know or care anyway?

    • @howsyourdangler
      @howsyourdangler 3 роки тому

      @@fcallum77 the thermal conductivity of mx2 is 5.6 W/mK, mx4 is 8.5. The higher the number the better it is. You can get regular paste with 10W/mK quite cheap. The stuff the manufacturers use has around 2W/mK... you are right to call it cheap rubbish.

Well, whilst it worked it wasn't the neatest & professional chip repair I've seen n I do them on a daily basis, as for cleaning Amtech flux just use some isopropyl alcohol a paper towel & a toothbrush it cleans it perfectly however your way too eager to use hot glue on everything, you could have run the wires under the chip & used solder mask this would have been a MUCH neater & more professional repair with no need for hot glue!

    The owner of this laptop is the average loser who doesn't have a clue about electronics and doesn't deserve to own this nice gaming laptop. I think this job will be back and you will have to remove it and re-flash it manually to remove the password. Some laptops have passwords that are very difficult to remove, but some can have backdoors. You might need to do some research to see if a fix is possible, or maybe just remove it and leave it off. Since it booted without that chip, if it has a backup bios, just copy the backup to the main bios and problem solved. When he comes to pick-up the laptop tell him it has been confiscated to protect it from any future butchery that he might do, then hand him an abacus and tell him this is all he deserves to own hahah!

Anyway, he probably doesn't even need a gaming laptop. Smart people who want to run the latest PC games use a regular desktop PC because they are easier to fix, much cheaper and much more powerful. Gaming laptops are only bait for losers with too much money LOL!
