I recommend you practice using this calculator as soon as you can so you become comfortable and fluent with it's functions. It really depends on the size and purpose of the footing. One of the purposes of the contractors is to be responsible to ensure that footing is build correctly. Contractors have experience with the means and methods of constructions. That being said, *if done correctly* using the right products you should be able to pour a footing yourself.
