It feels like it's the first time I'm hearing this story 😢😢 man! Israelis though, their efficiency is something else. Benson Okuku, the Israelis, our army, Kenyans...may we never forget
My father worked with the victims, I remember their stories because they used to come to our house, I also remember the said day, it was our closing day it was a friday, I was in Kiambu primary school at the edge of the playground at the hilly part, I can remember the blast really well, I can remember even how I turned and looked at the Nairobi direction and saw a heavy smoke, that day we were to go to railways station and someone delayed us and the trip was cancelled, I don't know if I would be telling this story, there was a man called mr marai, he was saved by a watch snatcher, who snatched his watch and he was going to cooperative house and he persued the thief, the thief saved his life
Benson Okuku RIP. I was 6 years old and in Class One. It was closing day at St George's Primary. Mum came and picked me up from school and took me to town to get a matatu to connect to our home then in South C . She narrated to me about the bomblast as we walked and jumped over broken pieces of glass. It was 1 PM then. It was really sombre. Thanks for detailing that dark part of history to us Mkurugenzi.
I work in Levilla gardens resort, kikuyu and I have made it my personal responsibility kuhakikisha my colleagues have subscribed.. adi clients wenye tuko social na wao ask them watakwambia
The mom and the tapping of the stone...never have i cried so much 😢 😪. I'd love to attend to your story telling concert. Make it unconventional, under a tree picnic style. In other news, my big sis escaped this blast by 5 minutes. She'd just left the Coop place after an interview. That's God!!
Wow, these stories should never die. For those of us who were born after that bomb blast, we have sketchy/no information about what happened there. Such things should never be forgotten. Thank you Mkurugenzi mkuu
Ive never heard this story kabisaaa...i was about 2 months old then!! The security guard though...a hero right there. Respect to all the millitary men and women who took part in that exercise.❤
The only other time I've seen/heard this story told was in a certain Kenyan movie but Mkurugenzi umeifanyia justice. We celebrate Benson Okuku! We celebrate you too Mkurugenzi for telling these stories so creatively. Happy belated birthday!

I remember like yesterday. We had just left college classes in SPS (Ngara- we used to walk to save $$) walking to town and felt the earth shake - It was like a huge earthquake .. Thats what we thought... Until we saw the smoke.. Until we couldn't even take the matatus to get to our homes.... we lost dear ones... my cousin who survived with deep glass cuts from the KBS bus that was passing my the railways roundabout made life changing decisions that day - we thank God each day for His Mercies... after listening to this clip .. I thank the watchman (never had known of him) Thank you for the sacrifice that saves life. may the Lord continue to bless you abundantly that you never luck and opportunities flow your way.
But we are happy you are here telling stories some of us know less about.live long..to more life of telling more stories...may happiness, good health and being wealthy be your potion...peace😌
I was one year old when this happened, and all these years, this is the best detailed story I've heard about the bomblast. Abel, you're a great storyteller. Bless your heart.
I remember the day very well. I was traveling from Nakuru to limuru with my one year old daughter. Veeeeery sad day.😢 God bless you Abeli you help us see how far God has brought us as a nation.👍👌
This story hits home cause my mom was one of the few who were able to escape from the bombing. To date she still fears any commotion that happens in town. May the heroes not be forgotten.
Who is here is 2022? Whenever I remember this day I thank our late Principle Mr Njoroge for having released us on a Wednesday because the school needed to be used for something. Normally tukitinga chuo at that time the bomb went off we were usually at Railways bus station waiting to board mats za ucha. Had we not been sent home on Wednesday that Friday mimi na kikosi yangu tungekua hizo ma area. Thanks Mkuru for always making great pieces out our happenings around us. Your talent is on another level. We appreciate you.Man
I remember news coverage of mama Rose although i was young at the time. Kenyans had hope that she would come out alive. True what u have said, we need to document these stories. There is an american guy called Tariq Nasheed, he fundraises money for black history documentaries like hidden colors. So maybe we can have same concept? We fundraise so you and your film makers document such important/tragic/never forget/never again kind of stories. Just an idea🤷🏽♀️
All your stories are movies, short films and documentaries. The lessons, information and education, are very relevant in society in this day and age. You've struck gold with this concept. Best story teller ever!!💯💯
A docuseries of landmark events in Kenya's history from the perspective of those who lived them is a brilliant idea. Its a great way to preserve our history and stories for generations.

Abel Mutua,,, I have literally shed tears,,,this time not tears of joy nor laughter it was really emotional...I recall that day vividly I was three years old then my aunt came home and told us about the bomb blast that had happened and she hurriedly left to Nairobi to go and check on my mum who was working in Mwalimu Sacco since by then simu hazikuwa common. Mkurugenzi you have enlightened me much more. May the souls of those who died continue resting in peace. Benson Okuku was the true hero.
Wah boss never been thrown back this way. I was a young boy in kitengela and the tremors from the bomb were experienced all the way. Boss you're doing a great job maanzee by reminding us how much we Kenyans are build with so much love and unity that should never be taken away by demographic difference... Man you made me emotional just by bringing that picture I used to watch on the TV as a child and how my mum working with the Mugoya construction company rebuild the co-op bank. We commemorate the ones that lost their lives.
This story reminds me of my mum telling me how she felt the impact of the bomblast from her house as she was preparing to go get her visa from that embassy!!! Enyewe God saved her life🙏🙏
I like how you integrate suspense in your stories...you can never conclude until you listen to the end of the story. Hata eyewitness will want to listen to the end. Ma mehn!! keep doing what you do best.

You’re such an inspiration & everyone that remembers August 7th 1998 can recall how Rose brought the country together & everyone was praying for her to come out alive. Benson Okuku was the real hero. I remember in our stupidity as small boys then My friend Amos and I went to town to play games at Pop-in, got there at about 9:30...few minutes later the tremor that hit Moi Avenue was really really scary. Whatever I saw there after I've never forgotten.. I lost an aunt, it was such a hard time. Thanks for telling this story.

I walked passed that Co-Op building earlier that morning at around 9 a.m., going to change my money at a bank in Hurlingham. I clearly felt the shockwaves before the blast all the way inside that bank in Hurlingham. Ningechelewa kidogo, singekuwa hapa leo.
All these stories mkurugenziii... Just make a film.. A series. As i listen to your stories, i find myself visualizing naskia ni kama niko hapo kwa hiyo story.. Respect man!!
The bombast memorial site is actually still up. Guys should make a point to just go see it and learn about these events. Nice stuff Mkurugenzi, hizi story huwezi mbaya!!
Wow ..this story....My dad was to go to ufundi building that day ....But just because my mum was expectant and had a clinic session..we remained with him at home....By Gods grace....my sister was born a week later 14th August....it would have have been a different story....Pole to the families of bomb blast. I walked passed that Co-Op building earlier that morning at around 9 a.m., going to change my money at a bank in Hurlingham. I clearly felt the shockwaves before the blast all the way inside that bank in Hurlingham. Ningechelewa kidogo, singekuwa hapa leo.
Ni God
Kudos Mkurugenzi for reminding us of our story. Benson kweli is an unsung hero.
