    Out of all of the reusable pad videos/creators I've watched, your videos have been the easiest to follow and the most informative. I am finally going to attempt this. I appreciate you! Thank you :)

      Great that you tried it though! My first pad looked terrible, eventhough i had lots of sewing experience. But 5-10pads later i had the hang of it and they look really tidy and symmetrical. Just keep going! :) I found it so rewarding to make my own and theyll last ne years. Also: The good thing About Cloth pass is, that its not visible to many people, so as long as its functional you can still get lots of good use out of them...even of they arent perfect.

      I’m confused- shouldn’t the waterproof fabric be against the decorative fabric before the absorbent material goes on? I took apart one I bought off eBay and that seems to be how that one is made .

    • @sarahchang6217
      @sarahchang6217 2 роки тому

      @@Truth1561 No because then the waterproof material will collect pools of blood rather than the blood being absorbed into the absorbant material first. Then you will have leaks because the blood isn’t being absorbed by anything.

    I'm just trying to psych myself up to making my own cloth pads and came across your video. I'm so glad I did! Not only do you explain every step well, but you're so tidy!! I can't think if there's crap all over my sewing area. I wanted to hug you when you said your pad was giving birth cause I make masks and that's how I think of it! I even flip the same exact way and snip as I go. I realize this all may sound ridiculous, but after watching a million sewing videos, it's so nice to see I'm not crazy. Lol. Thanks so much! I'm definitely going to try your method.

    Hi! Love your videos, they’re perfect for teaching! Just wondering about pre-washing fabrics, how do you go about it? I’ve heard you should “torture wash” the fabrics 5 times or something like that, aka on high heat and dry on high too. I don’t have a dryer, so I won’t use that method to dry my pads, but do I really have to wash my fabrics that many times before sewing?
    Thanks! You’re great!

    • @mikaylacarpenter3639
      @mikaylacarpenter3639 3 роки тому +3

      fabrics like cotton and bamboo used as a liner should be washed and dried 5 times before use because they shrink. if you don't prewash before using them, after you make the pad and wash it, it can start to bunch up because the core is shrinking

    Love this tutorial! I have been doing lots of research before I start and this is informative and simple! I looked up the soft shell fleece on the website from your link. Does it matt which one? There is knit, jacket, activewear, shell grid, etc lol. It’s showing most of them are two colors. How do I know which one is the side that will be visible? Thanks for the help!

    • @billettescrafts
      @billettescrafts  3 роки тому

      grid is nice. But if they’re softshell, any will work. You’ll know when you get it. The fabric or soft side is the exterior or pretty side. The more waterproof smooth side is the non pretty side

    Great video!!! Very easy to follow! But this isn’t a hidden core pad. A hidden core pad shows no core stitching at all (you only see the top stitching on the pad face). Easiest/most common way is to sew your core to a *full* layer of flannel. Then you stack your core/flannel, topper, backer and sew around. Turn it and then top stitch.

    What would the washing instructions be for these? I am assuming not to put them in the dryer?

    • @billettescrafts
      @billettescrafts  3 роки тому

      There’s many different ways to wash cloth pads. I recommend air dry or if you use dryer, tumble low
      Soak overnight in a bucket with your choice of soap. Hand rinse and scrunch to remove as much blood as possible and the wash in the washer in cold. I like to run them a second time in the washer on warm just ensure they sanitized. Every person kind of developed their own routine

    Dear Billette, You said you maid your template pattern out of cutting board from the dollar store? I have never seen such material at the dollar store and the only thing that pops up when I search the web is our kitchen cutting boards. Could this material be called by another name and where could I find it? I really want to have a solid template to trace and to preserve my patterns. Appreciate your help in understanding this. Ann

    How long would this pad last a young lady? I'm wanting to make them for our local school girls to use if needed but I'm just wounding how they wouldn't just bleed straight through them because normal ones have that plastic backing that stops that happening so I'm just trying to understand if there any good for them to use if you get what I mean I'd have to put on it how often it would need to be changed if possible :) x

      The softshell fleece backer would stop their flow if use a PUL layer in there. Years, if properly cared for

      @barefacedquestions Рік тому +1

      From personal experience, it is surprisingly durable and stops the flow better than commercial ones. The only hassle I find is washing.

  • @beedeebabies

    So topper goes against your skin? Would that mean that the design you choose would get messy and the plain soft shell fabric would be on the outside? If so how can I reverse that because I'd rather the design not get bloody. I hope that makes sense.

    • @billettescrafts
      @billettescrafts  4 роки тому +1

      beedeebabies yes it does. In that case you wouldn’t want to use softshell fleece as your backer/layer against your panties. You’d want to buy PUL which is a waterproof fabric commonly used in cloth diapers making. It’s all about how you layer your materials and then flip them to the right side out.

    Can anyone with a heavy flow comment on whether these 2 layers as the liner help keep everything tidy? Scared of leaking especially overnight. I'm trying to make a few for my 2-3 heaviest days, and am curious if wool will work or be too water resistant. I don't want to change out pads every 3 hours either or deal with a squishy factor

    • @billettescrafts

      You could probably make 8-15 pads with a yard depending on the length of your pads
