  • In this video we finish the carving of the Ringneck Drake Gunning Decoy and get it sealed and primed, ready for paint.

    That was quite interesting Tom. I know It takes some time to get the decoys to float correctly. I never knew how to place weight on the side like you taught us. I had watched the 34 Ringnecks being judged at Ocean City and a lot of them did float differently from one another. Some seemed to bob way more than a real duck.

      It’s tough to cover all possible wind, waves, tide, chop conditions out the Bruce. To be honest, I was not happy with the way my decoy handled the chop this year. Always learning.

    They look like brass screws to fasten the keel. Could you also use stainless steel? Are there any pros or cons?
    Also, have you ever carved shorebirds? I'd love to see your take on a songbird too.

      Those are zinc coated screws. You could definitely use brass or stainless. I’ve only carved a few shorebirds. Nothing in recent years. Thanks for your comments!
