After having spent over 60 years of my life enjoying camping on a regular basis (Hiking, Motorcycling, Backpacker Van, 4x4+ a Roof Tent, Camper-Trailer and even now a Caravan) - I have to agree that the old KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid) philosophy is my favourite - Truth is though that there really is no perfect solution to what combination of kit one ever chooses to use - That's because every set up has it's advantages and disadvantages and as your circumstances change so do your preferences - Anyway great presentation both of you - You've inspired me to do a Camping Video on my own channel 😎👍
bottles of water, 2 minute noodles, blanket, pillow, back seat of your mazda 3...welcome to camping. what people "ACTUALLY NEED" is just to get out there and figure out what luxuries they want while camping. ebay cant sell the memories
I have gone for a tent that I can stand up in with a stretcher. A couple of other things I would call basics would be some form of shelter to cook under or put the swag under, I prefer free standing, and a table or basic camp kitchen to make food preparation etc so much easier.
Personally i recon a roof top tent all the bedding lives up there , only things in the wagon are a fridge a portable small barby and ya clothes a gas bottle on back , i can squeeze my 2 fold up chairs and a fold up table in my roof top tent and it shuts that stuff always lives up there and leaves more space in the wagon thats the key , more space in the car and that all can be done on a budget ive done it and its still like luxury and a quick set up and pack up , im over swags and tents expesily setting up or taking down in when its pissin down with rain that sucks , that rear foot well water container is a fantastic idea i want one 👍 🍻
You have a wagon, so... why can't you sleep in it ? Back in the day, people camped and slepped in the back of station wagons all the time. If you pull out the middle and 3rd row seats out, and make a very modest height false floor (I did,for $100), you can fit most stuff under the floor. Maybe a roof rack for a couple of things. RTT ??? You have a wagon already - why ? As for swags... I spent 300 nights in my old swag, in all seasons in the NT and central Oz for work. And 35 nights my new swag since xmas. If you are getting wet, you are doing it wrong. We can configure the tarps several different ways. And, we carry a mozzie proof pavillion to set up and chill out in. Do you wan to spend all your time in your RTT ? All this gear fits under the floor, and we can sleep in the back of the wagon if we really need to.
@nordic5490 if 2 people sleep in a wagon the fridge and everything has to come out , I was just thinking off comfort and that can be done on the cheap ive done it , was only a suggestion tho
What u guys have is similar to what we have too. We only buy what we need too. We have 2 double swags & trailer pods because we have 6 people. The pod is where we store all camping gear and essential stuff. You don’t need fancy and expensive rig if you only camping for the weekend and long weekend. Most camping have drop toilet anyways.
When you're older, it's nice to have a little van, at least. You see a lot of younger ones in a caravan these days. Camping in the heat or with millions of flys, for example, is really good in a van. WA is frequently bad for flies, I'm not sure about NSW coastal and mountain regions. This video suits where it's made for sure.
You are doing it wrong mate. We carry a mozzie proof gazebo under the floor. It takes 5mins to set up max. Also a rechargeble ceiling fan - works great. You dont want to be stuck inside your van.
Seriously I know I will get smashed for this (it’s just my personal view) comment but UA-cam content creators informing us about what we don’t need or how little we need is a little hypocritical. Content creators spend many videos telling us what we do need not what we don’t need.
I appreciate your thinking on this episode. It's what I've tried to achieve with my set up. With respect, the set up in your troopy is great but unattainable for me. Great episode and I'm still regretting selling my 1985, 5 speed HJ60! 😭
Amazing how little you need isn't it. I went from a full build rig to 2 plastic boxes, a few canvas bags and a swag. Simplicity 😊
It was pretty nice to get out and use it keen to show you the episode on Sunday :)

Fantastic episode, I would definitely include a gazebo or Tarp of some sort. Had to chuckle about a battery system for Starlink

One thing is some form of cover, maybe a cheap gazebo from Bunnings or cheap kings awning but defiantly something to get out of the the sun
That is something we want next!

Cover for cooking will defiantly be something we sort out for this setup next!

You can always get another!
Love that you still have that floor water tank from the lux 😊
Its been a great bit of kit!
Love these tips!
Glad it was helpful!
Great advice guys
Maybe start with a campground first. That way shower and toilet is taken care of the first time. Because it’s something to think about.
ebay sponsorship is sick, well done guys
You forgot recovery gear ?
A shovel was mentioned.😀
Good old shovel goes a long way but recovery gear is defiantly something you want to look at early on when building a setup like this :)
Which lake is it?? Great spot!! 😊
It is Blowering Dam. Our camp video there will be released next week.
this is good to see! looks alot like mine
Its a great setup!
great video, thanks.
Glad you liked it!
I think i'm ready to go camping now
Its certainly a good start!
1:05. Holly, you look absolutely beautiful.
