@MageBurger This is definitely it, usually murder scenes in movies and series happen during a fabricated "murder setting". Everything building up to the murder makes sense, everything has a reason, it's nighttime, dark alleyway, bad place of town etc. This scene is so horrifying because it seemingly happens out of nowhere. We see a short snippet showing the two characters living their normal life. Talking about interesting things, sharing thoughts, several decades of building up two people's personalities. Then all of a sudden, the nice sunny day at the park becomes their last day, no buildup, no dark setting. We can relate to this because we are all living regular lives, very much like these people. They eventually closed the case when the true killer died of a heart attack in 1991. Arthur Leigh Allen's was believed to be the prime suspect in the killings and was confirmed as the killer when authorities searched his house and found Zodiac information.
The amount of strength it must have taken to not scream out or panic after you have been stabbed 6 times and then someone right next to you is being stabbed to death. The man survived by playing dead btw
The scariest thing about this, is that the director, David Fincher actually consulted the survivor of the Zodiac attack to ensure that this scene was as accurate to what actually happened. And the survivor says that the film pretty much nailed it true to life.
To me, a horror film fanatic, this is probably one of the most gruesome scenes in the horror genre. I understand that their internal organs aren’t ripped out and eaten and there isn’t so much blood, but the fact that this is a true story is what makes it all the more terrifying. I’m happy the young man survived this attack, but we see exactly how a young woman met her tragic end.
Gah....this scene was brutal when I first saw it. Fincher is evil...he had the tension so high, and then totally deflated it......just before the actual murder. Fucking chilling...
the stabbings to the stomach on a woman in particular was very disturbing to me, the screams just added the horror factor but the shock to me really set in when he keeps repeatedly stabbing in the back and proceeds to her stomach..notice he just stabbed the guy in the back solely
When I was a young teen I didn't understand why my mom found this scene so extremely brutal since there's almost no blood. Now looking at it being older than 20 I totally get it ...
In reality stab wounds don't actually bleed that much, unless they hit an artery or organ. The human body is made to withstand a ton of damage, you could literally survive getting stabbed 30 times.
@@darkwitch8648 That's so true. It's incredible what people can live though. The year before I was born a woman was brutally attacked in her own home after being raped. She suffered 25 to 30 stab wounds in her back and her neck was cut from side to side. Despite the brutality of the attack and losing a lot of blood, the woman survived. The doctors were amazed at her strong will to live.
Most stabbings aren’t super bloody. Depending on how skilled the person using the knife is. My father for example, was a Royal Marine Commando. He had a knife on his webbing for taking out sentries, he would sneak up, hand covering mouth, blade goes through the back piercing the heart. No blood or noise, a quick, practical, silent kill.
Isn't it usually the other way around? Why bother tying them up if you could just shoot them? If I was going to leave my victims alive I'd at least tie them up to keep them in place.
Bryan Hartnell is a true survivor. I saw the footage of him in his hospital bed, recounting what happened to the journalists covering the incident. I truly hope he and every other victim of this delusional nutbar with an inflated view of himself gets the justice they deserve.

Well if u don't believe in God, justice and forgiveness are impossible since people can get away with sins all the time in the natural world. In fact the zodiac killer could have lived a very comfortable life
The fact that he handles this situation in a way that we all probably wish we could and it still ends how it does is so scary. I'm sure we've all pictured being in a situation like this and being level-headed, assuring the people around you, remaining calm... and you're still fucked
He is totally an idiot. he should have paid attention to his girlfriend instead of acting casual and stupid. They should have ran the Monet they saw a weird man hiding and looking at them, instead of making stupid jokes about being good looking. If youre going to get killed, better try fighting, instead of on your stomach tied up. The guy sounds like a numb skull liberal. he got her killed too.
The direction in showing the zodiac walking towards them is beyond words, gives me chills. In a very placid scene, it’s the three steps of the man walking, the man hiding behind the tree and then the man pacing ever so quickly towards them almost out of vision. It’s so scary.
To me this is the most haunting and horrific murder scene I ever saw. From the sudden shift of and the helplessnessof the situation to the lack of music and the cinematography, to the sudden outburst of murderous violence. The fact that its primarily conveyed by the sounds and the lack of typical movie style blood splatter makes it even more impactful.

Why I like being scared of everything? Almost if God exists then why didn't he stop this? Stop believing in some invisible man in the sky. It's bullshit mind control.
I don't wanna lie over here but I think he wrote the police a message once which went along like this: "The funny thing is that after i die i get to the paradise and everyone that i have killed will be my slave."

His approach by talking to the perpetrators, extending help to him, to humanize themself in the eye of the perpetrators is a good strategy and will work if they are dealing with criminals with economic motives. But the fact he's not interested in the victim's wallet or money or any of their possesion should be a red flag to the pre-law guy that he wants something else, and they're in grave danger. Always pay attention to the signals given by the perpetrator, not just talk.
You’re totally right it makes no sense to tie them up if he’s stealing the car there in the middle of nowhere. I think the level of preparation, the fact he’s taken effort to be disguised. It’s hard to know how you would personally react in this situation and psychopaths can be very good at disguising emotions for manipulation. I think one indicator is the lack of fear in his approach, a more opportunistic crime that’s based on stealing money tends to come from a state desperation and has much more uncertain outcome and would probably benefit more from compliance as the perpetrator may kill out of fear.
The murders in this film are genuinely disturbing. You get a true sense of how awful and senseless these deaths were, unlike so many films that deal with murder.

It is crazy that the man in the scene actually survived his injuries. They got the details pretty accurate, so I am assuming the number of stabs is accurate. Lucky bastard.
This film changed me completely and I watched it when it was first released. That couple had absolutely no idea that their lives would be in danger at the hands of a freakin serial killer that wasn’t even caught!. Before the encounter scene, they were having a great day at the lake, enjoying the sun. After watching this film, I always keep a eye out whenever I go to a park or out hiking. I sincerely, don’t let my guard down 100% and I’m a full grown man! Lol. I keep my eyes peeled because you just never know how some crazy could come up to you and try to end your life, I legitimately worry about my family.
Honestly sounds like the movie didn't do any good for you. Of course awareness helps, but the actual amount it'd help in the case a killer targeted you versus the amount of time now spent worrying, there's no way that adds up.
Bryan Hartnell survived this. If only he had looked at him when she mentioned him the first time he would’ve got a glimpse of his face and might could’ve identified him. But then he went behind the tree and put his mask on and he never saw his face like the girl did
Zodiac is one of my all time favorite movies and murder cases. The mystery behind the case is what makes it so intriguing. It would be cool to know exactly who Zodiac was and to solve the case.
@@boozmanfranco5432 DNA was inconclusive, compared to a very partial profile, which was never confirmed to be from the sender. They took a small piece of the outside of the stamp. It could be a mail carriers partial DNA profile they have. Unless some new evidence with DNA comes out (which probably wouldn't be released to the public) I don't think DNA is going to solve this case. I know they found blood and DNA from the suspect on Cheri Jo Bates pants but there's a chance it's not even the Zodiac's (probably is though.) There's no definitive answer as of right now and there's too many viable suspects that all seem like they could have been responsible, some more than others, but it's still an issue when trying to figure it out. I hate that a lonely guy that read a few books and had weapons got lucky enough and did just enough to never be identified. The guy probably wasn't dumb by any means but I don't think he was some super genius, he was probably an above average weirdo that just had enough things happen the right way
InfinyteGard3n all that existed to tie Allen to being Zodiac was circumstantial evidence. Nothing concrete. A neighbor of his who disliked him actually told police a bunch of stuff when they heard he was a person of interest as the Zodiac Killer. So stuff like him saying he would call himself Zodiac and kill people was all from Allen’s neighbor who didn’t like him. DNA, fingerprints and handwriting rule out Allen as Zodiac. It’s most likely that nobody has come close to naming the real Zodiac at all. Of all the suspects that have been talked about and looked at over the years, the real guy likely just lived his life after all this without being suspected being the Zodiac Killer. He wanted attention and got it. Might have had a family at some point and they didn’t know about what he did. Could still be alive today, retired and living the rest of his days knowing what he did. Or he could be dead and those close to him have no clue as to who he was.
A good reason to know that compliance does not guarantee safety. I wouldn’t care if dude had a tank... the minute the rope comes out, the fight is on!!!
Correct. Never ever let someone tie you up. You fight to the death before getting tied up. Cuz once you’re tied up, you got nothing. Subject to torture, imprisonments, experimentation, etc. Never ever let someone tie you up, you fight for your life.
@@rileybobbert6527 a possible scenario, but all the same, I'd never allow it, especially in this situation. I mean to be fair to the guy. He later did a interview where he explained that due to where he was sitting he thought she meant that a guy was behind some trees that was a good 200 feet away and was also a well known spot for picnics. Basically by bad luck her head was facing at an angle that looked like she was talking about a guy at a spot much further away that he knew about. He pretty much said that if he knew the spot she actually was talking about he would have jumped up and been much more alerted due to it being far closer than he thought the guy actually was.
I've seen heads explode and fingers chopped off and many many more stuff like that but this tops it, its disturbing the screaming is just so terrifying
also think about him, his wife is getting brutally killed while he is holding his fear and pain screams to survive... and after he survived, he lost the person he loved probably the most
Bro could you imagine being hogtied where you can’t move your hands or feet and someone just stabs you until you’re dead… the pain and thought that you can’t do anything about it is creep bruh.
This scene is so realistic becauseit could happen to anybody and that's what makes it terrifying. Somebody's trying to go out and enjoy their life. But because of how crazy the world is and sick people the zodiac killer has sadistic evil intentions.
Yeah. It seems so surreal and eerie, but actually happened. And it was on daylight, a normal day for that couple, until the killer came from nowhere and murdered them broad daylight. Thats disturbing.
Number one mistake any victims make. Even at gunpoint, the minute you enter a killers car, House, or allow them to tie you up. You're as good as dead. Rule #1, if you're gonna die, die fighting or running and do both like your life depends on it cause most times. It does.
He had a gun that was loaded in an open area with no cover, if they were to run they would both be gunned down and neither of them would of survived. The man did by being smart and playing dead as the killer left, the best chance they got to fight back was when the girl went to take the rope, if somehow she quickly knocked the gun out of his hand or took it she would have a chance, but the killer himself wanted the man tied up first as he was bigger and posed more of a threat so it was calculated, it is very sick indeed but I honestly don’t think trying to run or even fight would of served them much good in this case.
You said it yourself: "A KILLER'S car, house...etc". They didn't know he was a killer, they thought he was a robber. Why fight a robber that has a gun?
The thing that makes this so scary is that it’s real, it’s always the things that are real that are the scariest, personally I never get scared at ghosts and possessions and shit.
Considering this is the only time he wore a mask when attacking, I wonder if the Zodiac had originally planned on not killing them and just taking the car and leaving.
The start of this scene is just so terrifying. No special effects, no cover of night, just a guy slowly walking toward them as her unease gives way to terror.
I read somewhere that this scene was shot at the exact same spot where the actual event happened. A number of trees and plants were brought in to make the location look just like it did in 1969.
Bryan Hartnell statement to police (The man stabbed in this scene but survived the attack) "His voice...I can remember...almost like I'd heard it before" Cecelia Shepard who was the poor girl murdered in this scene, her home address was about a 20 minute drive away from Riverside City College, Riverside College was where Cheri Bates was murdered and some believe was a victim of the Zodiac Killer too. The distance between this murder site and Cecelia's home address and where Cheri Bates was murdered is (479.4 miles) 8 hour 31 min drive. So is this all a coincidence that we have 2 Zodiac victims here, 479 miles apart, with Cecelia living near to where another Zodiac victim was murdered, with Bryan & Cecelia being out in the middle of nowhere in an isolated area, just so happens to pop into the Zodiac killer with Bryan Hartnell saying he thought he had heard the voice before and conveniently this time...Zodiac was wearing a mask? hmm.
The part where he shows them the bullets in the magazine opened my eyes wide when I first saw this. As casual as a teacher showing a student how to solve a math problem. "Nope. It's loaded. See? All killsy-willsy ready for shooty shoots." While also at the same time saying, "I'm not fucking around. This is the real deal."
Don’t ever go to secluded places like this. There are seriously psychos out there who do this kind of stuff. My ex gf and I went to the secluded mountains once to star gaze and do it and just be dumb young and in “love”. Anyways. I always carried a revolver on me. Many don’t do that in CA. As they’re untrained or uneducated with firearms. People need to get used to them. They exist. They’re here to stay. Anyways, a freaking psycho came to our car that night whilst we were sleeping. I’m a heavy sleeper. If it wasn’t for her. I’d probably be dead. She woke me up saying she heard noises Outside. That it might be a wolf or a coyote. Some crap. Mountain lion. Bear. Idk. It was literally middle of nowhere. No reception. Forest pines huge mountains. We were on an edge pull over on a talll Forrest mountain. A creepy voice grunt came out of the rustling bushes and trees. Idk what he said at first. But he flashes us with a flash light. And says “don’t move and I promise you I’ll only take the girl…” that shit was insane. Idek how to convey how it felt being half asleep to suddenly Oh sHiT. The dumbass didn’t know that I always had my revolver on me. I had it right next to my hand in a spot where he couldn’t see I instantly went for it and shot toward his light twice. I went fucking deaf so I couldn’t tell if he was running away or running around. But right when I did that my gf jumped in the front seat and turned in the car and slammed drive and gone. I never seen her move that quickly before . We came back in the day time to see if there was blood or a body or the flashlight they dropped. But nope. Nothing. Told the local Sheriff dept. they didn’t do much. Since then I don’t freaking go anywhere secluded. Not worth the risk. If u do go. Remember. Wild animals exist and r out to get you and murderous people are apart of that category. Side note: also be careful at schools. The psycho school shooters are another category of danger like this but the issue is the opposite. They hit masses. Not the secluded. I always wore a bullet proof vest to college under my clothing and took my revolver with me. Shotgun stayed hidden and locked in the trunk compartment. Always. The laws don’t make any sense. How are you supposed to defend yourself from psycho murderers if they can break the law and you can’t lol. It’s so backwards. I bet you those cowards wouldn’t ever try and hurt anyone if they knew at any moment they try to attack they get blasted. This world is so unfair. So much hurt and pain. The few Good people who stand and fight for the innocent make this world bearable.
I really like that part when the guy says “ya know because people are gonna ask, was that thing even loaded?” Then the zodiac takes the clip out and shows him it’s loaded without a word being said. I’d do that shit too if I was him lol
bro the way he just kept stabbing and stabbing and how realistic it was, no guts and blood splashing everywhere like an ocean of blood but you can still see the stab wounds
If this situation ever happens in real life then just decline to follow his demands... A masked man looking like that is obviously there to kill you anyways. And if he wants to tie you up then he obviously wants to do something far worse than shoot you. But he likely doesn't want to shoot his gun as he doesn't want to risk someone else hearing a gunshot. Please, don't trust that he'll spare you for cooperating and let yourself get tied up. This isn't your average robber scenario. Don't give the twisted pig the satisfaction of feeling like he can manipulate you... It's better to die on your feet in defiance of evil. Not in a submissive state on the ground because you were desperately trying to appease that evil.
I mean a better reason is honestly that you have decent odds of survival if you run. I think someone ran the statistics and found that in most cases if you try and run your odds of death from a couple of gun shots from a good few yards distance is under 10 percent. So it is better to take the risk of running unless you know for certain that it is purely economic. In which case your odds of death are low anyway because most people aren't going to risk going to jail for murder over what little money the average person has in their wallet.
It starts off so peaceful. Horrific violence in movies always seems to take place at night.

The scariest thing about this, is that the director, David Fincher actually consulted the survivor of the Zodiac attack to ensure that this scene was as accurate to what actually happened. And the survivor says that the film pretty much nailed it true to life.
Joe bevilacqua. Monster. Florence. Italy. Zodiac

To me, a horror film fanatic, this is probably one of the most gruesome scenes in the horror genre. In reality stab wounds don't actually bleed that much, unless they hit an artery or organ. The human body is made to withstand a ton of damage, you could literally survive getting stabbed 30 times.

That's so true.

That shot where the Zodiac releases the mag from his gun and shows it to Bryan is insanely good.
I ain't talkin, I'm fighting, first chance I get.

Number one mistake any victims make. Even at gunpoint, the minute you enter a killers car, House, or allow them to tie you up. You're as good as dead. Rule #1, if you're gonna die, die fighting or running and do both like your life depends on it cause most times. It does.
Also use the environment to your advantage
He had a gun that was loaded in an open area with no cover, if they were to run they would both be gunned down and neither of them would of survived. The man did by being smart and playing dead as the killer left, the best chance they got to fight back was when the girl went to take the rope, if somehow she quickly knocked the gun out of his hand or took it she would have a chance, but the killer himself wanted the man tied up first as he was bigger and posed more of a threat so it was calculated, it is very sick indeed but I honestly don’t think trying to run or even fight would of served them much good in this case.
