- Join us at Alfafa House, the bucolic Ulster County, NY home of renowned interior designer Brian McCarthy. Starting from a completely empty lot, Brian created a vision of relaxed country sophistication. In a vernacular Greek Revival farmhouse style, the house is brimming with personality from Brian and partner Danny's collections of fine and decorative art. Trained at the venerable Parish Hadley design firm, Brian brings his educated eye, love of craft and attention to detail to everything he creates. Love this channel, but I wish Susanna would wait for people to finish what they're saying - I really wanted to know why Sister Parish was 'mad' at Brian, and she cut him off midway through his anecdote!
Fully agree with you
Susanna is the best home show host I've Ever seen, so engaged and half are her colleagues/friends, so she's very at ease and keeps the show interesting, fun, warm and delightful, no easy task!
Yes Susanna , I hear your excitement but take a breath and let your guests speak.
100% agreed
Yeah that aggravates the fool out of me and I somehow feel embarrassed as if I'm the one interrupting. ??
Lots of wonderful details. not pretentious. What a difference mature landscaping makes.
All true!!
I have said this a couple a times about your videos...what a treat! When the videos end I always want more...always! Thanks for sharing such specials places.
Thank you very much!! We are so glad you feel that way!! Many more special visits coming soon!!
Wow! The house was nice , but the gardens were phenomenal!
I wish these videos were longer...I want to see more! So gorgeous. I really enjoy your channel! Thank you. :)
Thank you so much - glad you enjoy!!
Me too. I´m obsessed
Best channel on UA-cam.
Thank you so much for your support!!
Quintessence 000
I SOOOOO AGREE! LOVE Q❤️😍
Totally agree
Susanna (?) the visitor of all these outstanding houses always fits so perfectly in the environment... Tall, slim, beautiful blonde hair.... she is strolling through the rooms and stairwells... gracefully.
She is so fun & full of passion for the friends she visits❤️💞😍
@@ruthanncitron8443 exactly!!! Passionate and attractive... :-) Greetings from Germany
Ruthann Citron Thank you so much for your lovely words!
I so appreciate these wonderful complements : they made my day!
OK... I am now completely OBSESSED with this channel...
THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING!!!
David Flory Made my day! We love your obsession! 🙏🏻
ME 2 FOR Q💞❤️😍❤️💞
House deserves a little bit more cohesiveness, artists however definitely March to the beat of their own drum. As long as the owner is happy matters most, but the grounds are Gorgeous!!!! I love how Each owner you visit you so much appreciate their individuality and will always point out at least a few things you do truly like 👍
Thank you - we love homes that express the individuality of their owners.
this home is a visual feast..he captures the mood of a tranquil retreat yet with a spicy energy in the country..simply sensational..xx
Totally agree - a relaxing yet layered and sophisticated home!
love these tours wish they was longer. I know is his kitchen is great.
We are on lockdown in good old New York so I have the luxury of rewatching your fabulous video tours. Bless you! I’m dreaming of building a 15 foot porch now. Love love love this home. Thank you so much.
Our pleasure - glad to provide some inspiration while we are all staying at home! Good luck with your porch project!
You Are the BEST & so Enthusiastic!!! When you walk into a room your eye is a computer & you burst with enthusiasm for the host & all the treasures U R describing! U R the BEST!!! So love Q❤️💞😍
Thank you so much Ruthann!! Susanna is such a great host! - Stacey (behind the camera)
Thank you so much for your lovely words and for watching!
Beautiful property, amazing land scape.
Complicated and so busy. The garden is great, although it feels like Bunny Williams pool area. He must have been inspired
Brian's pool actually feels different from Bunny's but he did work with her at Parish Hadley!!
Definitely taste but money goes along way also.
LOVE all the stories behind everything! Such a great home with amazing landscaping... and adorable pooch!
Yes - what makes a house a home! And Daisy is adorable!
The homes featured on this channel are true gems. Please consider slowing down the filming so that we can really see the house, even if it makes the video longer. The quick camera work just doesn't do these homes justice. And sorry, no one really cares what the interviewer has to say. What fans really want is to hear what the owner has to say. Thanks!
Felicidades espectacular
Ditto Pallatium. You have the best job in the world. Wait, it's not a job, it's a passion and a vacation!
Hi Susanna, I always love your vids 👍👍👍 regards from Jakarta Indonesia
Tony Johan 👋👋🙏
Excellent house
Isn't it good to know that there are still people with taste out there - despite it all !!
YES!!!!
And money 💰
Thank you, thank you! Another fun visit, I always feel like I am sneaking into these homes via your pocket, getting the inside story and history along with the visual treat. The Sister Parish (one of my faves) history he shared was a bonus. The house, the garden, everything was fun to see, I look forward to these videos so much. You guys do a wonderful job, keep up the good work! Much appreciated by those of us who love homes with a personal touch. And a big thank you to those who are kind enough to share their homes with us.
Thank you so much Sherrie!! Exactly our mission - to take you with us for an entertaining and informative view inside the homes of the best designers and stylemakers around! And yes - we so appreciate these designers opening their doors to us!! Much more to come - stay tuned!!
great house . . . and style . . . the music rift is scarry . . . cant stand the music you apply to the video. . .
Sorry you don't like - most viewers find it pleasant and upbeat! But glad you enjoyed the house!
I want to slow down & hear the stories behind each one (as well as a couple pieces of his furniture). You're so lucky to get to visit in person!
Daisy was adorable! Amazing home! Thanks again!
Our pleasure!! Daisy is indeed adorable and it is a sophisticated yet relaxed country home!
Lovely man with a very cute dog! Magnificent home. Perfection.😊
We agree!
Garden area? Magical. Love design..
I wish I had seen this video before we put in a small 10x10 back porch, my porch seems big enough but is not. 15 foot minimum rang true. Live and learn.
Love this home, I would like be to see more inside and out. I'm searching for an old galvanized bucket to copy that bathroom mirror.
Georgia Cinq-Mars Amazing all the useful tips our designer friends have to share! Hope you find that bucket and thanks for stopping by!
I love watching this channel so much! ❤️
Love his style and decor.. I will have to rewatch this video again..
Please do!! 😉
The Gardens are even better then the house lol I love what he did making that new home and garage look like it had been there forever but he was trained by the best in the business,. They were two of the finest decorators that ever lived from two very different perspectives.
Brian is so talented and yes, Parish Hadley was the best training ground possible!!
@@quintessenceblg Have you ever noticed how many of our most successful. talented designers of today came out of Parish Hadley?? Almost all of them still very much alive and well are still plying their crafts today to our great benefit and i do not know of any of them now who are training the next wave of talent that will shape our Design future, Not like Parish Hadley did. They truly were an unlikely but remarkable Designing Duo. And even now look at how many we have lost or who are approaching the age where they are no longer working but retired, They say that "The more things change the more they remain the same" I pray that is true in this case because the American Design now has no one equal to what Parish Hadley did. They were remarkably unique and way ahead of their time which is a rare gift. It is also sad hardly any Design books showcasing Sisters great talents are on the market today. The ones in print do not do her remarkable talent justice,,
I get so much pleasure from these videos. Good taste and style in these videos reflect that we are all different and that just because we do not always want a particular look ourselves we can appreciate the passion of these contributors.
So very well put!! And so glad you enjoy! Thank you!!
This house is my favorite that you have visited! The mirror I love :-)
I LOVE all the color….gorgeous….thank you for sharing
What a beautiful home. And great people living there.
This is still my fave home❤️inspiration for decorating my home
McCarthy is one of our Masters so this is such a treat. And Miss Susannah, you’ve nailed it again!
What an amazing house. Full of fun and color. But I need to know where you got the giant book stand that fits the TV. I have been looking for something exactly like that. Did you build or design that? Do you know where that is available . Can it fit a 7pm inch TV? Loved your home. Thank you for sharing.
Another winner! I love the warm, inviting, comfortable look of this house and décor. It represents for me the ideal home; a tranquil sanctuary with rooms that look lived in, full of beautiful interesting artwork, furniture, personal pieces and treasures. Awesome mirror in that guest bathroom; interesting mirrors really lift and create a space. Lovely gardens, relaxing porch and pool area. A true country retreat to unwind in!
What I like most and the cute dogs of the houses. They are the cherry of the fool and looks so beautiful in the image. Congratulations wonderful 💗🇧🇷

Great to see the memorabilia that is added for the comfort cozy feel
Love, love, love this and agree Susanna needs to pause and let her guests finish.
I'd like to go look over those books stacked up in the front room!
Gorgeous house! Thanks for letting us in to see it. Wish it was a longer video.
Our pleasure - glad you enjoyed!
This guy is awesome
Yes he is - very talented!
I love it ... I wanna subscribe a million times
Thank you!!
She’s a little overwhelming an overwhelming Yank. Lovely house though!!
I like the pool house. I would have done more on that....added a little mother in law suite with a kitchenette and a small bathroom. But then I would live there.....LOL.
I feel lucky to bump into your Chanel
Welcome to our channel! Hope you enjoy our many episodes!
I love the undecorated look of this house. The layers and history of your personal items are just what a home needs. I wonder what all the kids whose homes are only gray, white and farmhouse style will have to carry into their homes of the future. They are all the same and so impersonal. This home is a treasure of personal style.
Doris Riddle couldn’t agree more on all counts!!
I love watching these & the only thing that sets apart mine from Your is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
HI Susanna! For your next book, would you please consider featuring pool houses? I've become obsessed with the magical pool houses I'm seeing in your home tours and I'd be thrilled to see a book with more detailed photos and stories.
Interesting idea...
OMG, THIS IS JUST BEAUTIFUL / FABULOUS AND YOU ROCK!!!
Thank you so much and yes, Brian is so talented!!
Instead of using built from scratch perhaps it’s a brand new build that we designed to resemble a period etc.
If I could afford their house, barn, lot, setup, I would choose it. Looks beautiful & peaceful out there.
It was!! Brian is so talented!
There was nothing in this house I envied or wanted to emulate, but one has to admire the mans vision for the house and garden! Both are eclectic, the house especially but I am sure if one was a guest, the house and garden would be endlessly fascinating!
Everyone should live like this and maybe in the future they will. But for now just for a fortunate few.
so far this is the most interesting one among all the quintessence. Eclectic, vivid, still classic yet causal, no more no less. I love it
love the place but.....great room needs a carpet!
The great room concept with living & dining merged together may not be for everyone, but in this case the furnishings and artwork supercharge the room with interest and lived-in coziness, and the eye draws it in like one big canvas. A separate dining room wouldn't have that kind of appeal. Outside the gardens are beautiful, esp the vertical dimensions such as the dense hedge that looks like a wall (maybe there is a wall under it). I wonder, was the house, built rather than bought, designed to take advantage of sunlight, for example sunsets on summer evenings illuminating and visible from the porch. Very interesting design features.
Wonderful comment - thank you! And glad you enjoyed!
@6:08 - Love Brian's watch. Patek Phillippe?
Too short! I would have loved to see more. Great space and those gardens are perfection.
AWESOME HOUSE
Fab
I find Susannah so annoying that I often just look at the interiors and have no sound…. It takes her out of the quotient.
Now this is a house with character and personal taste,us afraid of moving far beyond the sterile “decorator “ look. Ambience and charm.
Agreed! Glad you enjoyed!
His dog is adorable, following them everywhere.
That is quite a house! Thank you for the video and thanks to Mr McCarthy for agreeing to participate.
Could you persuade Andre Leon Talley to do one of these films?
You are most welcome - so glad you enjoyed! Perhaps he will someday be included!
Beautiful
The Devil is in the Details W O W ! More more ! Please !

❤❤❤
tht is a beautiful mirror at 4:01 .
Sweat doggie love it
Simply Beautiful. Cosy.
Oh my God, I love this house.
So glad you enjoyed! 👍🏻🙏🏻
well i guess if clutter is a style this wins.
love the twin beds! The twins would be really sweet to have with anything Mackenzie-Childs, also in New York. More Alice in Wonderland, I know.
Not sure that is keeping with Brian's aesthetic but love your creative thinking!
@@quintessenceblg Having incorporated much art from 2 disparate artists into my home (gifts and inheritance) I find that classical and eclectic bones mesh instead of clash. The beds remind me of Roman beds. I love what Salk did with her home by incorporating many designers' ideas into her home. Many artists use checkerboard, and I have a grouping "Not Mackenzie-Childs" which may include that design.
I love the landscaping. The interior felt less exciting
The little dog trotting behind the whole time…adorable💕
Marvellous, simply marvellous ..
diss aint brian mccarthy, chip!
So good
cathy san Isn’t it? Glad you enjoyed!
Love these videos they are such a treat!
This home is perfection!

Beautiful
Too much clutter
Thank you for sharing this with us 😊
Oh it's "layered" alright!!! Lmao
