See how they transformed a blank slate of a rural 11 acre property into a lush and verdant garden paradise, where they designed and maintain the three acres of extensive gardens exclusively by themselves. After house hunting for two years, Robb and Bill knew that the 1732 farmhouse was the one as soon as they saw it. On a country lane, a stone’s throw from the Connecticut River, the house instantly enchanted them, as they fell in love with its quirky charm, its setting far back from the road (so unusual for antique properties) and untouched land. Their love of old homes inspired the duo to modestly update the farmhouse with sensitive renovations that respect the past and original structure and as passionate collectors, they found their many finds effortlessly fit in like they were always meant to be there. Oh man!!! In a world of "some assembly required" mid century modern fast fashion? This house is a feast for my eyes. I can almost smell the age of the house, the fireplace, the greenery on the breeze. I'm in the middle of refurbishing some parts of my very ordinary suburban house and struggling with how to adapt the "clean" lines of today's design to the classic, traditional, curated look of fine design. References like this home remind me of where my design roots are, and the sensibility I am nodding to. It's getting harder and harder to find the classics without spending a fortune, so it's tricky!! A thought I'm struck by is how this property will fare as your hosts age. In our case, the originally more complex garden designs are being increasingly pared back as our bodies become less able to put in the work to maintain.
