- SolidSignal.com Exclusive! This is the first look at the Hopper and Joey from Dish Network. Hopper is a super DVR that does all the work. Joey acts like a DVR but actually gets picture and sound from Hopper.
Finally, a video about the o.g. Hopper I grew up with... All the suggestions and results up until now were for the Hopper 3 :P
Thanks for the nostalgia trip
From what I know in talking a LOT to Dish techs, you can only have up to 2 Hopper / Joey systems. Each system is 1 Hopper and up to 3 Joeys. Total of 4 TV's on any one system. Since the Hopper has three tuners, only 3 of the 4 TVs can watch something different. The 4th TV either has to watch a recorded DVR event or one of the other 3 running programs.
I had the same concerns about new wiring. However, if you have for example a DVR or receiver in your bedroom, office and family room you can use the existing RG cable for the connection. There is a "node" installed where the Hopper and Joey connections originate.
If I had a house full of family and kids now, it might be worth it, but for now it is only me, and I only watch TV in two rooms. My current configuration works fine, with the exception of being able to move from room to room while watching the same source (which I would like to do.) I have the downstairs DVD wired for dual tuner use, so a guest in the guest room can watch one tuner while another can watch something different in the family room, and I still have my PiP DVR in my room exclusive.
I just got my 2 hoppers and 2 joeys....works great... If your getting 3 tvs or more I recomend getting 2 hoppers...it will let you get more live feed options... Its a great system
So, from the node one RG cable to the main Hopper then a cable to each Joey from hub. Depending upon your current wiring configuration you could use existing possibly. Go to this site and look at the HIC Features doc for example. Search for "satelliteguys hopper specs" then go to page one of the forum post for links to spec sheets.
what would be really cool is if I could use the joey and hopper system to completely replace a home network where each joey also provides and ethernet out from the hopper that acts as a switch or router with the network operating on a completely different BUT accessible, if read only, network structure or subnet.
It's all on the same harddrive, You can create folders for each individual in the house if you wanted to
Getting this tomorrow!.
pretty rev for satellite tv, can't wait until the full implementation of two way sattelite television. The cable networks have the built in default ability to do two way with a set top enabling all kinds of on demand and pay per view. If dish or direct either one had the ability or bandwidth to stream direct to sat and back down to the end user I could see a lot of competition and viewing characteristic changes from sat users and cable users alike.
Keep your eyes on the horizon. Dish has alot in store for the future that may even blow directv out of the competition
I told Dish this is very misleading! Have to look at the asterisks. Since a hopper has 3 tuners, if you enable the Prime Time Anytime feature then that one tuner is dedicated to recording ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX during the 3 hour nightly prime time hours. So, you now have 4 channels being recorded during that time then the other 2 tuners can record anything else. 4 + 2 = 6. AFTER Prime Time then you only have up to 3 unique channels you can watch at the same time. So it's not always 6.
Hey, Blockbuster was a good store. Now Dish closed it. Yes, Dish did.
I would miss my optional external HD antenna, and this would work great IF the Joey's linked to the Hopper via Wi-Fi. Running cables through my old house is not really a viable option (although I do already have cables running from my attic to each room. Nice concept, but needs some additional hi-tech wizardry. I'll stick with my 6-independent tuner 722/622 combo for now.
Unfortunately, if you get a dual Hopper system, at this time they CANNOT talk to each other (yet!!) to see what's on each box. Only the connected Joeys can see their Hopper's shows/tuners.
So the hopper does come with a card. Im going to buy one outright.
(nasal) That hard drive must run hot..... haha
so you have to hoppers and two joeys connected to each hopper ? i want to upgrade to the hopper but i need 6 rooms connected is that possible how much do you pay for the hopper and joey ? please help
probably 2 for new/upgrade
On the Dish Network site it says you can record 6 shows at once - please clarify......
one. i just upgraded.
does every room that records a show or movie all end up in one library, or can you make a library for each room so neither can access it?
the music in the backround is the same that obe1 had in his old intro at 4:12
6 Tuners (Hmmm, that sounds better than DirecTV with only 5 tuners!) However, only 4 can be used on PrimeTime Networks (Aw man) So really, 5 Tuners is better than 6, when 4 are only for Prime Time.
1 tuner for all prime time shows, the rest are available
that would be att's tv service
2 ways is gonna be the shizz.. It only takes 1/4 or less of the downlink bandwidth to request somethings, but could you just imagine if they had high speed internet comparable to cable it'd be revolutionary.. Game designers and what not have propaganda out to disillusion people from satellite internet because of the latency but algorithms to slowdown "real-time" activities can be put to use to make it very unnoticeable but they have the sats just waiting in cold storage for the use.
How many joeys does it come with?
How can I change what hopper the Joey is connected to?
Where did you get that info?
TiVo could do that too!
No Dish didn't close it, they went out of business and dish purchased the company. Redbox and Netflix put blockbuster out of business
coming from a directv employee or customer? sounds like it. Dish is doing fine and has been for years. Top 3 service provider along with directv and comcast. Dish is no where close to going under and won't be for a very long time. As for borrowed technology...the genie was a pos when they finally put it on the market, all it did was malfunction, The hopper has no problems and doesn't lock up causing a hard reset on the cosumers part.
Just sent back hopper -Joey-Directv recorded better 10 years ago.
What a piece of junk
