My grandfather worked for Southern nearly 50 years, starting as a fireman in the '20s and retiring as an engineer in the early '70s. He was in the Danville division.
This is cool, I'm a native of the state she currently resides in (North Carolina) and I've visited the GSMR 4 times, the most recent being on July 30th of this year, where I saw an operational standard gauge steam locomotive for the first time. I've since heard the GSMR will be restoring her, and this time to run on oil. It does kind of ruin the locomotives history, but it makes sense when you remember that 1, the railroad is in the vicinity of a National Park, and 2, it's more efficient than coal, but to be honest, I wouldn't give a darn, I just want to see it run again, if so, I'll be satisfied.
Beautiful engine, but sadly 722 went to Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, was dismantled and never restored for whatever reason. What’s left of her currently sits outside GSMR in a million pieces. Wish TVMR would buy her up and restore her.
as a kid i would always pass by her when she was on display by the railyard in asheville. then the GSMR got ahold of her and now she'll just rust away into history cause her current owner is a lousy fucking cheapskate. TVRM was better off taking her back ironically.
@@isoldecurry4321 trust me if i had that kind of money i'd have her sent to TVRM or somewhere that knows what they're doing have her fixed up, and yes i know i'll catch hell for this, but put her back into her freight service black, and then lease her to the GSMR with the main condition that maintain her in working order and it's mandatory should they fail once i'd canceled their lease of her then and there and send her to TVRM least with them i'd know she'd be safe.

@@ClaytonXD10 that's his problem, he's trying to run three at once when he should only be running one. think about it if you don't have the money or the know how to barely run one railroad why try to run three? where is the logic in that or do you not see the problem here?, secondly the state of North Carolina actually owns the tracks on the GSMR meaning if he fails to maintain the tracks along with anything else he loses everything on that railroad to the state, thirdly even if they are raising the fund to repair the 722, it's gonna take forever what with the mismanaging mr. Harper is doing with all 3 of his railroads.

Well yeah because 4501 is operating but they did doublehead during the 1970s
She deserves to be restored to service so she can operate alongside her fellow Southern stars 4501 and 630.
